Is Sony about to own E3?

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, or "E3", as we all know it, is the "big one" of video game conferences. Every year thousands of media, potential investors and retailers embark on The City of Angels in Southern California, as the industry's biggest publishers showcase their most exciting games across three epic Los Angeles Convention Center floors.
This year's event is fast approaching, and with only five weeks to go it's already shaping up to be one of the biggest and best E3 events we've seen for a while. Nintendo is poised to showcase Wii U, which is surely enough reason to pay attention to the epic three-day event.
Sony is also set to have a big showing as the showroom doors open on June 6, with a number of exciting exclusives, potential blockbusters and new reveals sure to reinvigorate an arguably dry time for gamers.
Can Sony make E3 2012 its own?

i agree, and i think that is exactly why they did the same last year. Sony basically get a free month of game promotion while the other two companies wait to unveil their biggies at E3.

if you're not obsessed with 'winning' E3 (as some fanboys are) and just take these announcements for what they are, then the excitement lasts 3 to 4 weeks instead of 3 to 4 days. i prefer it this way, but i'm also sure that Sony will still have some interesting announcements at E3 too

to be honest with you that might be all for ps3, just like last year most of their E3 will be about VITA.

also expect to hear nothing about anything related to ps4 nothing ZERO.

I think it will be a smart choice if sony introduces a new VITA bundle with system,memory stick and one or two games for a good price point.

If Nintendo does not have more than one of the following: Metroid, Zelda, Smash Bros., or 3D Mario(Mario 64/Mario Galaxy style) gameplay on 3DS and/or Wii U, then Sony pretty much has it wrapped from previous announcements alone. Microsoft may have something but the past couple of years have had no real surprises and too much focus on casual instead of hardcore franchises. The least they could do is make a new Killer Instinct/Rare title and promote their XBLA lineup which compromised most of their good exclusives last year.

I have nothing against Nintendo or the Wii U for that matter, but I doubt an HD console from Nintendo will upstage the PS3 or the 360 since these two consoles were HD to begin with. And I believe Nintendo is about 4-5 years a bit too late in the HD era. However, the Wii U is most welcome. I for one can't wait to see Zelda and Mario in HD.

By the time Nintendo is lavishing in its HD glory, the PS3 and the 360 have already released new consoles.

About E3: Yeah, I want Sony to announce a new IP or two that we haven't heard of yet. Like a complete shocker, perhaps? They don't have to win anything, they just have to appreciate the fans by giving us what we want, which, by the way, they've been doing for years now!

I honestly don't think there will be an Uncharted 4, they tied up the third game rather nicely. If Naughty Dog do buck their trend i will be rather surprised.

If the previous two top selling series that they have made are anything to go by they will pass Uncharted on to some other studio and concentrate on that new game of theirs, that will no doubt end up a trilogy.

Last year's E3 actually was how I stated. Most sites declared Nintendo the winner. G4 declared them the winner after the show. Game Informer also claimed they won, oddly enough.

I feel like you hate Sony here. I like Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony...because they all have given me incredible experiences.

Sorry but this show is Nintendo's to win or lose. The WiiU will dominate all discussion but the question will be whether its glowing discussion or underwhelmed discussion. I won't stealth disagree. Here is why I disagree. The WiiU is an HD upgrade to a casual gaming system. Everything for the WiiU can be considered rehashes of Wii games and you wouldn't be far off. We know the WiiU is coming so there is no surprise involved, meaning the discussion you speak of will be very tempered. The only thing to know about the WiiU is final specs, pricing, and launch games. But like I said, it's an upgrade to a casual gaming system. That means the core audience will be more likely to be excited for things geared towards them.

It's very likely that PSVita news will upstage WiiU news. The WiiU isn't a "new" console anymore. It may not be released yet, but everyone already knows about it and are anticipating it at E3. Therefore, the show is not Nintendo's to win or lose as they currently have no surprises we know of to showcase.

First and foremost, what makes you think anyone is obligated to tell you why they disagree with you? Do you respond to every comment you agree or disagree with? And for people with a limited number of bubbles, hitting agree or disagree is less of a challenge than deciding what to actually comment on.

Second, the Wii U has been announced for too long to generate the type of buzz you're thinking of. People will be curious, yes, but they won't be nearly as hyped up as last year because, well, they've had all this time to be excited. Hardcore gamers will have a more mild interest now than before, as they'll still want to know what type of core experiences it offers, but there will be other announcements vying for their attention.

Such as the potential for Sony or Microsoft to reveal their new systems. Or gameplay for all these titles Sony's releasing, release dates for long-awaited titles like The Last Guardian, and so on.

As for the WiiU, many of you feel as stated here that the WiiU is no longer new hardware and that because it was announced back at E3 last year that it can't generate hype. My question back to you is did you feel the same way when the PS3 was announced a year ahead of time prior to launch? Did the PS3 pack any less buzz the following year when it was set to actually launch? Couple that with the fact that we still don't know much about the WiiU beyond the controller and there is certainly room for a lot of hype and buzz for Nintendo.

@DragonKnight... You are claiming the WiiU isn't new hardware and just an HD upgrade ...how do you know that? What facts do you know that the rest of the media world doesn't at this point? The point I am getting at is...again...there is still a bit of mystery around the WiiU.

As for the Vita upstaging the WiiU. I suppose it could happen but I am not gonna hold my breath on that one. We know 100% what is inside the Vita... about the only thing that could/would really upstage Nintendo would be a price drop to match the 3DS and I don't see that coming for the Vita this early.

Buzz is absolutely going to be focused on Nintendo this E3 as the media and the world will finally get the full scope of what the WiiU actually is and packs under the hood. I am not trying to say that Nintendo is assured the best in show at E3...they could easily fall on their faces and allow Sony to steal the show if the WiiU really is nothing more than an HD upgrade... but in my opinion this E3 is Nintendo's to win or lose for best of E3 regardless of the competition at this point with what we know.

It isn't new. Nintendo haven't been shy about what the WiiU will be focusing on. They've only been shy about the final specs. The reason behind that is pretty obvious. They don't want people expecting a lot. But most developers who have already come out and spoken about the WiiU have a mixed reaction to it. Half say it's as powerful as the PS3, half say it's almost as powerful as it.

Next to Apple, Nintendo are BRILLIANT at marketing marginal upgrades as the newest and best possible innovations around. It's quite obvious that the WiiU's focus is on the controller, just like the Wii. There is no REAL mystery surrounding the WiiU except to those who haven't been paying any attention. The only mysteries are the complete final specs (which Nintendo is really downplaying by hiding them so much), the price, and launch games. But there is no surprise wow factor involved since the WiiU has already been announced. It's not like this E3 will be the first time we hear about it. So no, buzz is not going to be around Nintendo in the manner you perceive. Anyone who cares about gaming enough to really be anticipating E3 because it's the biggest gaming convention already know enough about the WiiU to have a very tempered response to news about it.

The Vita doesn't need a price cut, and it can easily steal the show with features and games. Easily. But one thing is for sure, no one is really talking about what MS is going to bring to the table, as all anyone can really hope for is the nextbox to be announced. That's not fanboyism, that's just observation. Look around and you won't see people talking about MS at E3 as much as you will Nintendo or Sony.

Sony always wins E3 but haters always finds ways to discredit sony every year. "Oh we already knew" Bullshit. Sony every year showcases the most titles which is the only thing that matters to gamers. I could care less if Sony doesn't even announce 1 new title at E3 they already put together a crazy lineup that no one can challenge this holiday season or even next year.

Sony has a lot potential releases in their cards. Even if you deduct the multi-plat feature on E3, there's more upcoming exclusives to announce that would hold up the entire conference. Not to mention the upcoming games for the Vita.

Almost 2 years since Guerilla Games has released a game, so far they're pretty silent. There's also the split development on both ND, and SSM. Sony Bend or London may have a AAA title on the Vita by the end of the year. Quantic Dream still has to announce their upcoming PS3 exclusive.

Out of all the E3 conference, SONY's one is the most anticipated considering they have a LOT to reveal. TLG, versus 13 and AGENT included.

They may have to book the conference for a longer period if they want to cram all of that in, maybe that's why they're showcasing some of the games early on GT.

I am real interested to see what Guerilla games new IP will be? Plus Santa Monica has a new IP (1st/3rd person shooter, from what I heard) that they hope will turn into a franchise.

And then there is Media Molecule, beyond LBP cart racing they are in the works with an all new IP, taking risks and looking to innovate as always, I really hope to get some kind of a glimpse of this new IP from them.

The last guardian too would be more than welcome, as will be more info on the last of us.

For me its not about winning, if sony can show me just one thing that really gets me excited(which happens every year anyway)then thats a win for me. What would make sony win E3 for me is, if they just give some game-play of "The Last of Us".

That's what im confused about is the blind loyalty to a company some people can have! Im no fan of any company but any real hardcore game players will admit that new hardware coming to the market always draws in the most crowds at e3. Remember most of these people are gaming press at these kinds of events and they all want to break the next big story first... WiiU has the most unknown elements surrounding it at the moment and mystery always piques peoples interest, whether it turns out to be what they expected or not. Most here aren't even considering that maybe the reasons for Sony announcing so many games before e3, is so they simply don't get over shadowed by other news at the show and they can simply focus their push on Vita!

Lol all I see is "Sony Always owns E3" That SO not even true. They've been having impressive showings as of late. E3 of 2009 is when they started having some good showings. people act like Sony is flawless, they can be just as bad as MS lets be honest.

Well cause of Sony's first appearance at E3 many moons ago when the PS1 debut they have been the big headliner for the show since. They usually have the most to show & are the ones that many want to know what they will reveal or show.Whether good or bad Sony always makes headlines for the gaming industry websites which in turn generate hits for them. Because of Sony's pedigree in the gaming circle (dominating 2 previous generations) of course they will garner the most interest.

Since that PS1 E3 debut they have expanded their assets & cause of that they have to reveal games before hand or they will not have the time each game deserves which is why we are hearing about PSASBR & GOW:Assension now. I am never worried that Sony will have nothing to show cause of all the assets they have acquired over the years.

E3 is what it is now, a huge spectacle cause of Sony's introduction into the gaming industry. Throw in Nintendo, Microsoft & all 3rd party publishers under one roof....that is an event i wanna go every year.

Well i think you are glossing it up pretty heavily on Sony's behalf. But you have to give credit to all of the competition that e3 has become the specticle that it is today. Each company whether it be Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo have all had their many memorable moments at past e3's and to give such credit to one company is just a blind injustice... Sony is a great company and all, but they wouldn't be half the company they are today without great competition to improve on! And this can be applied vice-versa for Nintendo and Microsoft as well.

Sony definitely has some good games coming out. But that's the extent of their stuff so far. (Not a bad thing, just limited).

I think the big announcements this year will be platform announcements. Nintendo already has Wii U queued up and I expect Microsoft will come to E3 with Windows 8 announcements.

Everyone will have their opinions. I can't remember a year where either of the three ran away with it.

To me it seems like every year ...

* Sony consistently has the best games to demo, biggest potential surprises but always reveal it in a way that's kind of boring. It needs to feel bigger. I want lots of Vita games announced and awesome demos for PlayStation All-Stars, The Last of Us.

* Microsoft has potential to put on a great show but its almost like they choose not to. Instead, they want to have celebrity appearances and hire terrible actors to demo lame looking kinect crap on stage. If you could combine Sony's lineup with Microsoft's presentation, it would be amazing.

* Nintendo either comes out swinging or they have nothing good to show. 2008 was brutal, 2010 was amazing. I was expecting to be blown away last year and the WiiU reveal was pretty lame to be honest. I think they'll announce the usual games for the new console. They could win it with a great third party showing tho.

Wii-U will get most of the attention , and that's fine. It's a brand new system releasing this year and Nintendo will be revealing new games left and right and any 3rd parties with exclusive games will come out of the woodwork.

PS3 will do well. The Last of Us , Battle Royale , and God of War Ascension will headline and rightfully so , and they'll probably tease another game.

What will headline for Vita?
What will headline for the 360 other than Halo?
What will headline for 3DS other than various Mario games?

I hope so but they say this every year. I feel like the year of the playstation has been every year since launch and yet after all is said and done it feels very lackluster. I hope this year sony does some great things, but im not gonna lie and say that im not excited for microsoft as well. Hopefully this year will be great overall for all gamers no matter the console.

I think sony could be unveiling the move titles we have been asking for. Most of the move titles sony published were from second party studios, we still havent seen anything really from sony itself. Most of sony's big franchises just had or about to have sequels, so the next releases should be saved for ps4. Just like MS shifted their focus to kinect, I can see a price drop and move focus, as a cheaper alternative to Wii U for Wii users who will be cut off of games being developec for wii.

Idk about everyone else, but to me, Sony's E3 has always been the most enjoyable.

I think it is because they have the games that I have been looking forward to seeing more leading up to E3.

It is also because I am more of a hardcore gamer, and the other two is geared more towards the casual side of gaming.
