I miss the good ol' days when games like Conkers bad fur day took over. You just dont see stiff like that anymore. My favorite part about that game had to be the heist multiplayer mode, of course the story was good too and funny haha

TheSanchezDavid4371d ago

Yup. I miss the 3D platformers of old. Such a great genre that really took over the N64/PS1 era.

TheSuperior 4371d ago

Yeah i know. I think the biggest problem as to why we dont see games like these more often is because microsoft bought out rare. Rare was one of my favorites before the buyout :/

TheSanchezDavid4371d ago

Yeah, Rare was really the king of 3D platformer games.

SaiyanFury4371d ago

@ TheSuperior

Actually the reason Rare was sold to MS was because Nintendo refused to publish Conker's Bad Fur Day, and Rare went ahead and published it themselves. Nintendo, in their typical spite, sold Rare to Microsoft, where it is now a shadow of it's former self. If I'm honest, I to this day, believe Rare was Nintendo's best developer, whose games were best targeted at the Nintendo audience (pardon me if that sounds like an insult, it's not). I'd love to see them recapture their former glory, sadly I think it's not to be.

@SaiyanFury
Nintendo owned Rare, if they didn't want Conker released, it wouldn't have been released.
Rare has been a solid developer this generation as far as I'm concerned. Kameo, Viva Pinata, Perfect Dark Zero, Banjo Kazooie Nuts And Bolts and the first Kinect Sports games are all pretty awesome.

Its easy to look back at things and say, I miss this or that, if there were a true fan calling for some of these franchises I'm sure we'd see them in some form. After all, its all about making money.

I would love to see Killer Instinct or a new Banjo game, just not sure there is money to be made from it.

Also, Peter M was running Rare and wasn't exactly a visionary when it came to putting some games out. I'm interested to see what Rare has been up to. Its easy to say they are busy with Kinect, but Big Park actually handled most of Kinect Sports Season 2, which means Rare could easily be up to something else.

Agreed with both your statements here. RIP Rare :(

I must have a true successor to Banjo Kazooie!

KrimsonKody4371d ago

I think Conker held up well.
It's still better than a few of the more recent platformers. I played it in its heyday, but I seen it recently in hi-res & such & it looked fairly decent.
Not to mention the hilarious story & memorable characters. & I will never forget the mountain of poo...what other game has an mountain made of poo? & the way the stench fumes levitated off the surface, I could swear that I smelled it!
Also, the gameplay was challenging & unforgiving, but it was well worth the grind, just for the story alone.

WeskerChildReborned4371d ago

Haha why are all the best games from the last gen? Seriously, i remember playing Conker: Live and Reloaded back on the original XBOX and that game was just awesome.

mamotte4371d ago

Sadly, the halo-like multiplayer for the Xbox version sucks. I suggest you to find and play the multiplayer version from the N64, it was made of pure win. Just for this, I say the N64 version is way better. Oh, and, oh-the-irony, uncensored.

Pretty weak month (again).

darthv721024d ago

Confession time... I never played the original Conker on N64 and I did not play the xbox remake. It wasnt until Rare Replay that i played a Conker game. I do enjoy the Midway arcade series though. And that Planet Alpha looks kind of intriguing.

Christopher1024d ago

That Rock of Ages is sad, though. But, yeah, the other stuff isn't necessarily bad, just somewhat niche in market reach potential.

Will never understand the love that Conker and Banjo Kazooie garners. I had both on N64 back in the day. Both were just inferior versions of Super Mario 64.

Dom_Estos1778d ago

I loved that game as much as anyone, but I think Banjo was as good, if not better. It took all that best elements from Mario 64 and expanded on them with more creative and diverse levels. CBF hasn't aged well at all due to its humor and terrible voice acting, but like Banjo, it was pushing the hardware more and had some brilliant gameplay elements to it. Mario 64 aged the best out of the lot because it had a very basic art style and simple, yet brilliant, level design.

BadElf1778d ago

That's arguable.

So because Pepperoni/Mushroom pizza is inferior to Anchovie pizza...Pepperoni Mushroom isnt amazing?

Im a fan of Pizza/3D platformers though....

Snookies121778d ago

Not true at all, they each had their own unique charm. Not to mention their own twist on things. No need to compare them, they were all really iconic games for different reasons.

NiteX1778d ago

Inferior? No way in hell. I will admit they wouldn't exist without Mario 64, but they took what that game did and knocked it up a notch. I would at least say they are all on equal footing.
