INSERT COIN: This Week in Kickstarter – April 28, 2012 Edition

This week we take a look at a Dungeon Keeper-inspired game, a cool mech title for iOS, an adventure game from a genre legend and the first 8-bit movie.

Nekro definitely has me interested and it looks like just my kind of game. Their fundraising goal is fairly modest too, so I hope they succeed.

Only thing I'm not liking about this whole Kickstarter thing, is most of these games are for PC. I want to see some console projects damn it!

The issue with XBLA/PSN development is twofold: certification and publishing. Both platforms require that there be a publisher involved. For those developers that don't have one, Microsoft and Sony may step in and help, but those deals are hard to come by.

Certification is also costly, from what I've been told.

One of the things that interests me (and I'll be speaking with them tomorrow) is how Gambitious will be setting itself up. There has been a lot of negativity around it, but if it bridges the gap between Kickstarter and a traditional investment model by operating more like a crowd funding model, but incorporating the roles that a publisher typically fulfills, you might see your wish come true.

Until then, expect the bulk of game projects to be PC, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android. Sorry. :(
