Number 10 isn't ridiculous and a basic understanding of the human mind..

ten minutes of running around killing shit?..no problem..

five hours?...you physically get exhausted and emotionally..

of course this is literally represented with "harder" bosses..just because it would be hard to actually imprint that onto the player..

all the player has to do is turn off the video game if they get tired..

imagine a game where you CAN'T turn off without losing som...

wait..*thinks of Dark Souls*

my point is made..

one of the more entertaining articles i've read from N4G in awhile. don't take the article too seriously people.

i especially found "#8 Cars" hilarious. Michael Bay loves to ignore this rule in his movies.

These are the things that make games... games.

Without any of these we'd be stuck with a bunch of simulators.

Of course games would suck if they didn't include this stuff but that's not the point. The point is that in the realm of reality, these are ridiculous. There is no double jump in real life. And yes that's why these are games and not real life. Humorous observations are just that; observations. This article is just saying that when you think about these in terms of reality, it's kind of funny. That's it. No ones whining. No ones saying life should imitate video games or vice versa. It's just an interesting perspective.

Of course these norms make no sense in real life, but that's not the point. The point is that this article overstates the obvious. Stuff everyone is aware of, such as double jumping. I don't see how that was interesting.
I never said the article was whining or that it was insinuating that games should imitate real life more. It's just a very "well duh!" pointless article.

The whole thing was a set up for an exploding cars joke.

Why is everyone taking this article as if it's a serious discussion about whether games have to emulate real life? The article is not serious, it's just a funny read. No one is saying games must be super accurate. There doesn't have to be a logical reason that Mario dies when the time runs out.

'In video games, cars are easier to explode than a Parkinsons patient holding a bottle of nitroglycerin'

That's just soooo damn funny and wrong (guilty laughter ensues)

Whenever I misplaced my cellphone in the house, I would ask my sister to give a missed call. Then it would made a sound and flashes so I can find it easier...

Wait...a ridiculous gaming norm happened in real life! An actual glowing item when you search for it!

As for cars in games, they really are ridiculously sensitive things. I've always cringed watching how easily parked cars explode in BF3's first gameplay trailer and even more so once released. I do give cars in Fallout 3 a pass though since they are essentially powered by nukes. Their tiny mushroom clouds death are so cute to watch and feel appropriate in the game's overall post-apocalyptic theme.
