The fact is, I want to like COD games. Purely because it is addicting and can be fun to play. However the issue with the engine and so on is a real bugger. Also the price for the maps are pretty ridiculous. Here in the UK its around £10-£15 which in dollars is $16-$24, not at all cheap... They need to take advice/criticism instead of simply saying 'Go play another game'

Purely from a psychological perspective; When people think they have made a unanimously correct decision they want to help other people from making the perceived wrong decision.

From a business/consumer perspective some companies are bad companies for whatever reasons. Maybe they use anticompetitive practices, or treat workers poorly, or release products that have more spent on marketing than research and or development, or even because they have poor customer service.

Personally I don't care too much what other people are doing with their money. There are some companies I personally do not support for a number of reasons. Of course I think others should do the same. However I know that convincing people of anything that is not what they have personally decided seldomly works. So I keep my thoughts to myself most of the time. Or if I am referring to them at all it is like his, in a way devoid of pointed fingers and name calling.

It's best to list the problems but not say the name of any companies. They're all guilty in one way or another anyway.

People who dont play COD anymore, yet still hate it, do so because of the potential harm that Activision's practices cause to the gamer community/game publishing industry as a whole:

I think the reason why people hate COD even though they still refuse to buy it anyway, is because Activision's scheme of ripping off gamers for money, and their lame arcade style re-ash gameplay are being copied by other game publishers who NOW wonder how far they can push a crappy product, or change our beloved franchises into COD clones. Example: Have you seen the new multiplayer footage o Far Cry 3? That series had some awesome hardcore MP, but now it's been turned into another cheaply made COD clone (at least just the multiplayer).

Activision's business practices are also infecting the franchises we love in a negative way since more and more companies are talking about following the trend of COD Elite and are talking openly about charging us yearly subscription fee's. COD has done nothing but push the limits of absurdity when it comes to selling people re-hashes over and over, and finding new ways to get more money out of consumers. They never bother to innovate in gameplay (look at how Activision ruined Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero, and now COD), yet always takes time to innovate on new ways to take the money of mindless teens and mentally slow adults (because any grown man still buying this stuff at $60 a pop is pretty mentally slow).

So, let me follow your logic here. Activision makes an utterly unique product with Call of Duty 4 (remember, the perk and leveling up system in an FPS was a relatively novel idea at that time) and it is a runaway success. Given this, they proceed to put out sequels very similar to the original for the next 5+ years.

Other publishers, seeing CoD's success, start telling their developers to emulate that franchise to get their own piece of the pie, rather than try to make something unique. When these developers try this and sacrifice their artistic integrity, you blame Activision, rather than the publishers and developers that are willing to sell their souls to try to get in on the action. Where is the logic?

@ Tapioca Cold Hmmn I don't think in hindesight you can argue modern ware fare was the multiplayer to have this gen when it had a life for most people of one year until the next in the annual series came out, Being honest I had a much better time in the multiplayers of Halo 3, Bad Company 2 and even last gen games like COD 1 & 2. Did you ever see the marketing campaign of Bulletstorm, they gave out a game which parodied COD and it hoghlighte all the issues in the newer iterations of the series, Crappy level layout, poor plots, the games feel very unimmersive, the Halos and bad companies gave you a freedom to approach levels how you see fit, On foot, by vehicle, sneak past them, none of this could be done in the COD games. WAW added vehicles to their multiplayer which improved the variety in the games, but after this they were never seen again. It's almost as if stagnancy is encouraged by activision. While innovation and creative are tossed to one side. Most people buy COD s due to it being a household name assossiated with games consoles, also the fact that their advertising campaigns are massive. Nothing really due to the quality of the game. However I've gone off topic a little here, the main point I wanted to make was that while COD 4 was good, they have been annually releasing SLIGHTLY CHANGED versions of that game since 2007 and charging full price for it. Credit was definatly due for COD 1,2 & 4. But the more recent versions get far more credit than they deserve from reviewers like IGN or Gamespot, and it seems that the gaming world is finally starting to realise they've been duped.

And yet, tons of games that would be great with split screen don't have it. Battlefield doesn't have it. Medal of Honor doesn't have it. Homefront doesn't have it. Crysis doesn't have it. Bulletstorm doesn't have it. Mass Effect 3 co-op doesn't have it. Most racing games don't have it. Assassin's Creed MP doesn't have it. Max Payne won't have it.

Like I said, implementing it is no easy feat, otherwise it would be far more common than it is. There's a reason CoD3 had it and other CoD games didn't. CoD3 didn't look anywhere near as good as CoD4 and later games. Obviously it's far more difficult to get split-screen working in a more visually demanding game.

And like I said, anyone who can't see how far the game has come is flat out delusional...

Actually MW3 is the best selling COD thus far. Not sure where people are getting their numbers. 13 million is just on the XBox 360 and they are closer to 14 than 13. 13.76 million.

MW3 is closing in on 28 million sold (physical media) worldwide across all platforms and that's not counting digital downloads.

Not much of a COD fan myself but I was shocked when people were saying it sold 13 million so I googled it. MW3 broke sales records when it launched so I thought there is no way this game fell off the cliff after it's initial launch, and it didn't.

More than likely if you combine physical media and digital download it's probably closer to and or has possibly surpassed 30 million sold overall.

Whether you love to hate it or hate to love it this series is still a money printing machine.

Because some people WANT to like the series again. I'd played a little Time Splitters, but CoD is what got me INTO the FPS genre. When I complain about the series being stale and uninteresting, it's not because I hate the franchise, but because I want to enjoy playing again.

I don't want to feel like I'm emptying my wallet to play the same game I bought last year. Especially when I'd need at least 3/4 of the price of the game to keep enjoying it online(3 or 4 packs of DLC maps is enough to buy another game, after all).

But what YOU'RE telling me is that I should just shut up, cut my losses, and not even bother thinking about CoD anymore. Granted, I would currently rather play Battlefield or Killzone, but if Call of Duty were to make genuine attempts at improving, I wouldn't be averse to going back to the franchise.

After playing campaigns and single player games for the past few years, I got back into online multiplayer with MW3 and I'm addicted. I don't understand the hate, probably because I havne't played the past few COD games so I can't compare them. From what I've played, the gameplay is much better than older online shooters. I enjoy the variety of game options. Back when I used to play a lot of multiplayer games they mainly had three game types, free for all, capture the flag, and team deathmatch. Yeah I'm behind the times as far as online gaming, but that doesn't matter. I've said it before, but I'll say it again: The perks, weapon customization options, streaks, and gameplay is just fun. I can't get enough of it. Yeah it's fast paced, but I like that.

Haven't had much time to play BF3, only played online once, but I should play it more so I can compare the two games.

Yeah, I've played all of them, and to some extent, enjoyed all of them as well........except Modern Warfare 3. The whole "rehash" feeling really struck me with mw3. At least Black Ops sort of has its own identity with the slower paced gameplay and different weaponry, but mw3 is just a full on rehash, except that it is somehow WORSE than its predecessors.

I find it hilarious how this guy is acting like WE are the a$$holes for wanting a better game, and one that works. One that doesn't have the same issues (and more so) that it did at launch.

I said I enjoyed those games to an EXTENT. I may have enjoyed mw2 and black ops AT TIMES, but that doesn't mean they are good games. Sometimes I can have fun with a sh*tty game, but still recognize it as crap. I buy it every year hoping it will be different, hoping that it can at least go back to the quality of cod4, but year after year, I'm disappointed. I'm probably going to skip black ops 2 if they still haven't fixed the connection issues and graphical inferiority of the ps3 version, and am definitely going to skip any future modern warfares.

It's kind of how it is with food. I can still enjoy myself every once and a while at mcdonalds, but the food is pretty much just garbage. So no, my opinion isn't contradictory. And I didn't enjoy Modern Warfare 3 AT ALL by the way.

Compared to CoD2, CoD4, and even World at War, games like MW2/MW3/BO are absolutely terrible.

And yeah, there kind of are a lack of options when this crappy franchise that's so big has influenced publishers to make their developers make their games "more like cod" with more crappy mainstream elements. Almost every shooter you see today has some crappy perk or killstreak system in place, in attempt to make their game more like call of duty.

I said it before, when an employee says 'just go buy another game' it seems childish. It shows Activision are too SCARED to change/improve anything. Their priority is sales, not the enjoyment of the buyers. COD4 was/is class (still play it today more than any other game), simply because it's fun and the quality is what you would expect from a 2007 game. They kind of do, after all, we are the ones who made them so successful in the first place, so they at least owe us a listen and a few things we ask for, and yeah, terrible connection issues and hit detection ARE absolute and undeniable faults about the game. I'm not talking about killstreaks and aimless auto assist when I say "issues that have been there for years", I'm talking about the crappy netcode, and the fact that the connection issues have gotten a lot worse over the years, which is a fact.

The graphics are passable, sure, but they could stand to be improved a little bit, even while keeping the 60fps. I thought maybe for a little while that mw2 graphics was as good as they could get while still maintaining 60fps, but after seeing all these other franchises that I thought couldn't look any better being pushed EVEN FURTHER while still maintaining the same framerate, I'm willing to bet that Activision could (but wont, because they're lazy and greedy) make cod look noticeably better while still maintaining the fast, 60fps gameplay that made cod2/cod4 so great.

No, but he should say (and DO) that they have a plan to fix those issues. I don't expect them to admit the truth, which is the majority of cod fans haven't really played a lot of other games so they don't really know what quality games are out there. But I at least expect some pr line about "we are listening to your feedback and are currently working on these issues" and actually follow through with what they say. That's what they should do.

Because fans like me who bought and loved Call of Duty 4 got them where they are today. That warrants some respect, and it warrants some bugs and issues be fixed. I bought MW3 used, so I didn't give them crap for that game.

Let me clariy: I meant mw2 and up had a crappy perk/killstreak system. CoD4 and WaWs were okay, but I would prefer them to stay within COD.

No, but they need to drastically tone it down and balance it out to where the map you are on isn't covered in explosions for 70% of the match.

Resistance is a prime example of a game that was ruined due to cod influence. That multiplayer is so freaking unbalanced since they decided to add so many perks and annoying killstreaks to that game. Same with Uncharted 3 multiplayer. KZ3 is somewhat cod like, but not enough to ruin it for me. Halo and Battlefield are good, but you can't play them forever.

I'm not defending Activision's policy of "don't change anything" because that policy doesn't exist. People like you just like to pretend it does. I'm just pointing out how ridiculous it is to insist you are right based on your tastes and expectations and demand that a series that is clearly what several million people like be changed to suit your preferences.

If you take issue with it, fine. But you call all the fans "pre teens" and "brodudes". You insult the several million people who do like it, as if their opinion is less valid than yours. You think Activision owes it to you to design the entire series to your specifications because you bought CoD4. Then you call them lazy and greedy, even though CoD offers more maps and modes than any other comparable game. They've added split-screen online. They've added an entire co-op mode. I got 40 hours out of that mode alone just trying to complete the missions on Veteran. Most full games don't even give you 40 hours of gameplay. And they've tried to balance things out while still offering as much variety as they do. But again, you call them lazy because you didn't get the improvements you think the series needs. But so what... Activision are lazy, greedy assholes because you didn't get what you wanted. You treat them as if they are entirely ignoring you, yet for all you know, they're trying and listening. Hell, I've played games with a lot more issues than MW3.

The fact is, they made a great game in CoD4. They earned your money. You didn't make them a success. They made themselves a success by creating a great game you wanted to buy.

They don't owe you anything for buying a game any more than McDonalds owes it to you to keep items on the menu or Amazon owes it to you to keep certain games in stock because you once bought something from them. It doesn't matter if you spent $1 or $65. They gave you what you decided to buy.

And they are lazy because other games have improved graphically, yet CoD4, which set the bar for graphics on both consoles and did so at 60FPS hasn't improved as much as other games which were not only behind CoD4 graphically, but ran at a significantly lower framerate. You make it sound like you know better than the developers what they can get out of each console. Again, you don't care about what anyone else says or thinks, even when they have far greater insight into it than you. If you don't agree, they are assholes, lazy, greedy, brodudes, and preteens.

That doesn't just apply to games either. Those that are disagreeing are doing so against a fact. MW3 is close to 28 million overall and that does not factor in digital downloads of the game. More than likely it's closing in on, or has already surpassed, 30 million worldwide.

People aren't buying CoD because they "hate" it. They're just not interested in it anymore. There really was no reason to release a completely new game after MW2. They could have rode that game and released more map packs for much longer that they did. What I don't think Activision understands is that people waiting to buy a game aren't excited to be the first to have the latest and greatest. They're more looking forward to the time investment that they're going to want to dedicate to getting good at it. If you release a new game every year, all that "investment" goes out the window and you have to start all over again. Why do you think Starcraft lasted so long? People invested time in it.

So, please, Activision or whoever... Make a game that we will want to invest our time in. Make a game that will last years and years, without having to throw away all that hard work after just one year. You did it with CoD4--people still play that religiously.

Earn back our trust by valuing not just our monetary investment, but our time investment as well. Then people won't hate you, they'll value you.

COD itself isn't evil if done correctly. The game mechanic is simple and addictive.

People are just tired of cut and paste and the corporate money bleeding of the publishers. MW3 is a big let down for me - I mean elite ffs. All of that data should be in the game like blops.

BLOPS is the best COD game made in my opinion and I still play this as first choice. Reg still over 200k online in blops.

I think the reason many people are turning against call of duty is not so much thats its a bad game, but because it could, and should, be much more.

I remember when call of duty 4 came out, there was no real debate it was the benchmark for multiplayer fps. Every single map was brilliant and offered a completely different style of gameplay and required different skills and let you play however you wanted.

Bog - stealth, Crossfire- straight up firefight, overgrown- sniping and stealth, wetwork- just awesome tbh =)

Each map felt inspired and driven to provide a different experience. MW3 is fun, but all the maps feel exactly the same. Ask me to name any of MW2's maps and tbh im stuck...

The amount of times ive looked at cod4 and though of buying that and binning all the other cod games ive bought (which i only but in the hope theyve finally gone back to their roots like they always promise) is countless.

As far as treyarch's cod games are concerned I was not too impressed with cod:bo main game because it seemed too short versus their previous cod game which was cod:waw. I don't buy infinity ward's cod games because of my my disappointing experience with cod:mw.

The main reason on why I buy treyarch's cod games is because of the zombies mode, if it weren't for the zombies mode I really would not invest any more of my money in the series. The other main problem that I have with the cod games is the way the dlc is packaged and the asking price of each dlc pack.

I would like the dlc to be offered differently in a way that you could either buy just the multi-player maps at a separate price, and the zombie map at a separate price also. So let's say that a 4 multi-player map pack would sell for $10, and a zombie map for $5. That way people would have a better choice on what they want to buy and not have to spend more than what they want to spend.

I buy the dlc map packs just for the zombies map that comes with it. I have tried the multi-player maps and found them to be ok but I am not really interested in them for the most part. I don't like spending $15 just for 1 zombie map each time dlc comes out and that is where I feel I am being ripped off. I mean would it kill activision to offer the dlc the way I described to offer it as? It would at the very least offer the consumer more convenience, especially considering that the zombies mode is popular.
