1Up:
In the most classical Cowboys and Indians-kind of ways, the American frontier has been used as the canvas for literature and film since each has had breadth to embrace the era and its infinitely contested lands. But the dust-mottled landscape of violence, thieves, and legends that remain ever so familiar in other media has been implemented surprisingly little in the gaming medium. So when Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar's spur-saddled, 2010 magnum opus hit, it immediately impressed both the gaming press and consumers alike, garnering unanimous high praise and quickly becoming as viable in sales as Rockstar's flagship Grand Theft Auto series. RDR took the industry by storm with a well written, expertly paced, and massively open world. With such a high bar set by the first installment, how can a sequel possibly meet fans' expectations, let alone exceed them? Like the first game so cleverly ingested much of what has been utilized before, much can be gleaned from investigating the genre's storied past in celluloid, on page, and in real life.
Games such as Mad Max, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Batman: Arkham Knight desperately deserve a modern-day revisit.
RDR2 still looks astounding on PS4 Pro. i cannot imagine how it could look with a next gen upgrade.
It's obviously never gonna happen since Sony killed the game and studio, but Driveclub. Even in its current state, 10 years after release, it still puts many competitors to shame ...
Mad max ikr! Far cry primal, it amuses me how ubisoft just left ac unity hanging, sadly most of the good staff left from rocksteady while being forced to make that abomination smh
Former Rockstar Games Technical Director Obbe Vermeij has finally revealed why some planes would randomly crash in GTA: San Andreas.
This fly by feature was on the cutting room floor due to the random plane crashes and it's one of those things I'm so thankful made it into the final version as these random fly by and crashes make the world seem more alive on the extremely limited PS2 hardware you needed everything you could possibly get in a open world to convey that feeling.
And accross hundreds of hours of gameplay I probably died around 3 times as a result of these fly by failures but I loved every time it happened
It made the world feel more human, and honestly kinda insane that even today with all these open world games, almost no one can capture that like R* even when compared to their ps2 games
Lol, I remember those. I vaguely remember dying from one crashing into my car once too.
Rockstar Games' open world action adventure game, Red Dead Redemption 2, can now run on Android devices, but only barely.
Oh great. So glad this is a thing and not the current gen update we’ve all been asking for. /s
RDR was a great game but like a lot of rockstar games far too easy
How about having a PC version this time, Rockstar?
RDR reinvented the Old west genre
It's too bad the gameplay can't be more like Elder Scrolls. Not entirely because there are flaws in that series, too. It's just the whole Rockstar formula for doing missions and fighting bad guys is too arcadey if you ask me. I'd prefer to fight a gang of thugs that consists of 5 bandits that act intelligent than 30 guys bandits that are dumber than my horse.
Hunting needs to be more realistic, also. Shooting a flying bird with a rifle is hardly realisic. Or chasing a deer down with a horse instead of stalking it. Would love to see upland gamebirds, like quail and pheasants, introduced as well.
RDR is one of my favorite games this generation and absolutely cannot wait to here about a new one. There was a rumor a week ago about a possible new one called Red Dead Rebellion i think.
