Sony Super Smash Bros Game to be Titled “PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale”?

One of the big rumors of late last year was that Sony is working on a Super Smash Bros-style game with all your favorite PlayStation characters. Now, a survey seems to suggest that the game will be called PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

O_o - juicy rumor that seems to be true. I was beginning to think the original rumors were non-sense.

I kind of like the name even if it is a little long, I think it's the best title fit for it

CarlitoBrigante4404d ago

I also think Sony needs a Kart game with all PlayStation characters in it. Imagine how awesome that would be if developped by Naughty Gods!

Those guys created the best Kart game ever on the PS1: Crash Team Racing!

nveenio4404d ago

I don't really like the name when it's written in an article like this, but I would imagine that when it comes to box art, "PlayStation All-Stars" will be on top and a little smaller, and "Battle Royale" will be the stand-out.

Godchild10204405d ago

I don’t like the title. The title gives off that there will be no one from outside of Sony’s franchises that will be in the game and we all want to see some character from other games in this. I want to see someone from Mortal Kombat, and someone from one of the Assassin’s Creed games. There are endless characters that can be in the a PlayStation oriented fighting game other than the ones that Sony owns.

skyttskytt4405d ago

I didn't get that impression when I read it. If it was named "Sony All-Stars..." yeah, but I think using the PlayStation name is fine, and could allow for any character that's been present in a PS game, Sony-owned or not.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the name. I'm not a fan of long names in general. It's just awkward when it becomes a mouthful, and something short is easier to talk about. "Hey, you wanna play PQRSTUVWXYZ?" is more obnoxious to say than "Hey, you wanna play X?" I mean, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is NINE syllables. That's a lot for a game title.

nveenio4404d ago

skyttskytt has a good point. I don't know if you've realized this, but Mortal Kombat and Assassin's Creed are both on Playstation, and might even be considered All-Stars.

GraveLord4405d ago

Me too. Paul Gale Network is a just horrible looking site with bad content yet they were the ones to break this story.

On topic: The name sounds good...its bit of a mouthful but i'll get used to it.

doctorstrange4405d ago

If it is basically Sony SSB, it'll be a shameless rip off, I can't help but get excited.

-Alpha4405d ago (Edited 4405d ago )

Who says it will be a rip off?

The idea is dominated by Nintendo and they do it very well, but so can Sony. IMO there is a whole class of genres Nintendo does very well in that I think Sony can benefit borrowing from for their own franchises, especially LBP-themed games.

Personally, I prefer a 3D fight world with simple arcade fun like Power Stone, which is the direction I hope they take this game, especially considering most of Sony's biggest franchises started in 3D anyway

humbleopinion4404d ago

Ahh, the amazing Power Stone. How come Capcom never bothers to bring this franchise to the current generation with proper online etc? It would have been a killer.

decimalator4405d ago

Except Kratos wins every time.

waltyftm4405d ago

I don't think so, Sackboy will rip him a new one ;)

srcBFMVBMTH4404d ago

Did you not know? Sackboy and Kratos are one in the same. Hence why both of them are so damn epic.

I like 'Playstation All Stars'

TheRealHeisenberg4405d ago (Edited 4405d ago )

That could work but I think a little more is needed to define it as a fighting game. 'Playstation All Stars' could eventually turn in to something more like 'Playstation All Stars Soccer' or 'Playstation All Stars Football'. I'm just happy to see it is being discussed.

MidnytRain4404d ago

Call me crazy, but I think every word in the title screams generic. It's overly descriptive of what it's trying to be. It needs to have a more creative title. Something that'll give me that same chill I get when that announcer guy says, "SUPER SMASH BROTHERS!!!"

telekineticmantis4405d ago

"Title Fight" was a much better name. Remember you're not selling to kids Sony.

NukaCola4405d ago

This game will not be a bloodfest. It's going to be E10 man. It's their smash. Lighting effects and awesome flash instead of blood. Your getting E rated Sony characters and R rated characters. It will meet in the middle. And I am pretty sure it will be amazing.

Either which way, I am excited.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Launched 10 Years Too Early

Though PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale is a bit of a cult classic, it could have been a big hit if it launched in 2022 instead of 2012.

It wouldn't have mattered, Sony would've rushed it out and left it to die. More so now than before with their focus now being on SP narrative driven AAA games.

CrimsonWing69520d ago

Oh, but somehow Smash Bros. 64 made it work?

It just couldn’t compete with Smash Bros. and it wasn’t a free-to-play game like Multiversus.

PapaBop520d ago

I think it released at the right time. It's just after the success of Smash and Multiversus, it's finally time for a sequel.

spoonard520d ago

I'd be all in on a remake or remaster of the original. I enjoyed it because I didn't sit there and compare every aspect to SSB. I just enjoyed it as it was.

Magatsuhi520d ago

Sony should make part 2 and dump a good amount of money on it. Scrap super only kills and it's bound to succeed.

Father__Merrin520d ago

Yes the power kills spoilt it completely WTH was they thinking you should have hp bar that's it

God of War: Ragnarok Weirdly Makes PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Canon

God of War: Ragnarok has plenty of fun references to PlayStation history, but now fans have discovered a conversation that calls back to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale — the crossover fighting game released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

Nyxus527d ago

I wouldn't say canon. More like an easter egg.

Deathdeliverer527d ago

That’s interesting. It actually does make it canon lol. He mentioned it in a mainline game. I’d say that’s pretty cool.
