Nice to see the PS3 pulling ahead of the competition this WW for this year (consoles) and the 3DS holding it down for the handheld haters. The PS3 was ahead of the 360 by 700,000 as well and this early. The Vita's holding great too despite it's $250 price tag. All of the consoles look to be healthy.

MoFo11114406d ago

You make the assumption that they didnt just pull these numbers out of their ass.
They were saying the PS3 was ahead for all of last year as well. When we got the end of quarters turned 360 was ahead and increased the gap
Vgcharts is unreliable dog crap.

Dante1124406d ago (Edited 4406d ago )

@ Ice_Cold

Lmao with a big slap to the knee. Are you kidding? Vgchartz is unreliable all of a sudden? When Vgchartz released their US numbers for the end of March 24 it was all praise and how trustworthy they were from some of the community here.

Link to the comments in the US sales chart for laughs ("PS3 jokes, Vita dying comments")

MaxXAttaxX4406d ago

And by how much did 360 increase the gap?
PS3 closed the gap by 6 mil.
When 360 sells as fast, then we'll talk.

MoFo11114406d ago

@NathanExplosion
Increased gap by 2 million

OC_MurphysLaw4406d ago

@Dante112... VGChartz is unreliable according to everyone..until their console of choice has positive numbers then its the bible. VGChartz is unreliable..just like the NPD's aren't either. Both are based on reported numbers from some retailers and then speculation and trends to fill in the blanks. The only real source to trust are the companies themselves.

VGChartz has some use, its a great database for games and sales history as they will go back and correct numbers, etc.. but its not reliable for the most recent numbers.

moparful994405d ago

The ps3 WAS ahead until the christmas season.. For some reason the 360 sells like gangbusters during christmas... If not for their crazy christmas numbers here in the states the ps3 would have passed it a while ago..

Its a sight to behold that the Nintendo 3DS entertainment console leads the industry by a significant margin.

This was all made possible with the golden combination of boundary breaking tech combined with world class standard setting Nintendo 3DS exclusives. A special thanks to the millions and millions of Nintendo supporters worldwide that allowed their wallets to do the talking. Things are looking might positive for the future of Nintendo and the elite fans.

Rated E For Everyone

MaxXAttaxX4406d ago (Edited 4406d ago )

The hell is wrong with you. Are you PR or something?

""boundary breaking tech""? As in 240p visuals?
""world class standard Nintendo exclusives""? Does that include ports of old games and 70% of the other exclusive crap Wii and DS get that's NOT from a first party or major third party studio?

More like special thanks to Nintendo for dropping the price to a more reasonable level and some good exclusive games. That would have been more than enough.

yabhero4406d ago

For ground breaking tech he's talking about the stereoscopic 3d and for exclusives he's taking about Kid icarus, super mario 3dland, mario kart 7, tales of abyss fatal frame. some others i might mention are resident evil, monster hunter, heroes of ruin, luigi's mansion 2, fire emblem, kingdom hearts and more i cant think of. im not saying he's not overdoing it but there are some great 3ds exclusives not including OOT3D and StarFox

MaxXAttaxX4404d ago (Edited 4404d ago )

I wouldn't call 3D "ground breaking".

I think the Fatal Frame game is a spin-off and goes by a different name.
I agree with the other games, but Mario Kart 7? Really?
(Note: I have nothing against Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64 which were great and not the same thing over again or Diddy Kong Racing re-skined as MK7).

And Tales of the Abyss is a port. Already played it on PS2.

A lot of those games aren't even out yet.

Muerte24944406d ago (Edited 4406d ago )

It's only by 265,000 units over Sony's home console ps3. I wouldn't exactly call that being a significant margin. Then again these numbers aren't 100% accurate. NPD monitors USA, Media Create monitors JP, and there isn't currently anyone monitoring EU. But the trend is that Sony products tend to perform better over there than the other competition.

GribbleGrunger4406d ago (Edited 4406d ago )

agreed. it's bewildering how some people manage to see an 8 million gap reduced to a 2.5 million gap as proof that the 360 is outselling the PS3. ASTONISHING. you find yourself trying to explain and being met with the same fanboy accusation ever time.

why is it that on other forums i discuss (the emphasis on 'discuss') this with other 360 owners and everything is fine; no fanboy accusations, no trolling and no personal attacks? what is it about this site that polarises the gamers here?

noone seems to try and get to know anybody. it could be because of the many accounts some people have got... perhaps the fact that you constantly get new members but at the back of your mind there's that niggling feeling that it's just someone with multiple accounts. this makes you question why people would do that and so breeds a mindset of 'mistrust'. it could be that i suppose.

and the bubble system is the worse culprit. some people seem to spend the entire time here trying to reduce someone's bubble count, just because they're trying to mute someone. you can't have a meaningful conversation with 1 or 2 bubbles... 3 is workable but there just shouldn't be a bubble system at all.

the trolls are always going to be there, but perhaps if full conversation was allowed on this site, then 'some' people might just find out they've been making the wrong assumption.

dark-hollow4406d ago

I don't know what the problem with your comments.

Its your right to praise something you like as much as you want, but at least you aren't like the rest of the crowd who constantly attack other consoles.

ShadowSniper4406d ago

The 3DS ahead of the PSvita????? O.O wtf..well its nice to see Mass Effect 3 up there on top

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

CrimsonWing696h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker6h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing696h ago(Edited 6h ago)

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos12h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto11h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger8811h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies1h ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
