Interesting advertising, I wonder how Apple will respond.

MoFo11114405d ago

Why would they need to.
Vita isnt a threat to them

LOGICWINS4405d ago

Bubbles+

EXACTLY! Yet people on this site will STILL deny that the iphone is competition for Vita. I LOVE when reality hits N4G.

mushroomwig4405d ago (Edited 4405d ago )

Using another companies product in your advertising is a pretty bold move, perhaps they should respond with something.

^^I've said it time and time again on this site. The Vita and the iphone ARE competing with each other as portable media/gaming devices. The fact that I've gotten so many disagrees on this site for saying this, and now this pops up, is just evidence to support how out of touch N4G is with the real world.

"Competition to Vita but not the 3DS or handheld's in general. How quick stances change."

LOL, try harder. When did I say that I DIDN'T believe that the iphone was competition to handhelds in general? I'm specifying Vita because guess what..this is a Vita article, not a 3DS article.

Classic backed into a wall N4G response. You've realized that you can't counter my argument...so you go completely off-topic. Stay classy :)

Dante1124405d ago

@ Logic

Competition to Vita but not the 3DS or handheld's in general. How quick stances change.

Wintersun6164405d ago

I'm just waiting for the day when reality hits you, and you realize that iPhone sucks for gaming unless 5 minute time waster games with no substance are all you need. End of discussion.

LOGICWINS4405d ago

"I'm just waiting for the day when reality hits you, and you realize that iPhone sucks for gaming unless 5 minute time waster games with no substance are all you need."

Yet Sony felt that need to point out how much better Vita games are than iphone games. Why would Sony spend advert money to do this when its soooo obvious that iPhone games suck??

Your the perfect example of why I enjoy reality hitting N4G. People get to the point where they ignore every piece of evidence in front of them in order to defend their cause. Hilarious.

360ICE4405d ago (Edited 4405d ago )

Finally another sincere ice person around here.

@Some of the people above
Just because you people think iPhone sucks at gaming, doesn't mean most people share your opinion. Logic(wins) is right, the iPhone does compete with Vita mainly because it grabs a lot of casual gamers.

ABizzel14405d ago

Singling out another product can be funny if it's something that most people are having problems with.

Example:

Apple commercials about Windows crashing / viruses / and Vista.

or

Verizon commercials about AT&T iPhone dropped calls.

Yes the Vita is better than an iPhone for core gaming, but most of the people who game on iPhone are casual gamers who play "iPhone" games, and have no need for a hardcore gaming platform.

If this is what the $1.5 million dollar marketing budget was spent on I can tell you now it's not going to do anything for Vita's sales. They're focusing on the wrong crowd. As of now Vita is a hardcore gaming handheld and should be focusing on previous PSP owners and PS3 owners first, while adding games and features that will transition iPhone users or DS / 3DS gamers over to the Vita.

The iPhone and Vita are two very different and I use this term loosely for the iPhone "gaming" platforms, but at the end of the day the iPhone is a "PHONE" something considered a necessity whereas the Vita isn't, and the iPhone will always have that advantage.

Perjoss4405d ago (Edited 4405d ago )

The bottom line is people are much more likely to pull out an iphone on the bus or train then a Vita.

edit: personally I really don't like 'touch' gaming, the screen is there for a reason and that reason is not for covering it up with fingers and hands, fingers and hands belong on some form of controls away from the screen so you can clearly see your game.

Spenok4405d ago

Your completely right. Its a retarded arguement. However Apple insists on saying the Iphone or Ipad are direct competition for handheld gaming and are in fact the future. I think this is really just Sony saying... "Umm, No?" Lol

Outside_ofthe_Box4405d ago (Edited 4405d ago )

"Yet Sony felt that need to point out how much better Vita games are than iphone games. Why would Sony spend advert money to do this when its soooo obvious that iPhone games suck??"

You act like it's not obvious.

It is obvious, but you need to advertize no matter how obvious it may be because marketing plays a role in sales.

The iphone and the Vita are definitely not in direct competition. Many people buy an iphone for different purposes and gaming sure isn't high on people's list of reasons for buying an iphone. The Vita and the 3DS both launched on par with PSP and the DS respectively which shows that the iphone has had NO effect on the dedicated gaming handheld market. Which means they aren't in direct competition. Why you CHOOSE and continue to ignore this is beyond my understanding.

"Your the perfect example of why I enjoy reality hitting N4G. People get to the point where they ignore every piece of evidence in front of them in order to defend their cause. Hilarious."

What's funny is that you do this all the time. Whenever I or anyone else shows you the reality you either don't respond or lol... wait for it... or you continue to ignore every piece of evidence to defend your cause. Freaking hilarious.

Outside_ofthe_Box4405d ago (Edited 4405d ago )

Fools continue to ignore this for some reason. They insist that people that play iphone games to waste time when waiting at the doctor have any desire to buy a Vita.

Wintersun6164405d ago

@LOGICWINS

I have never said that iPhone won't take a bite out of the casual side of Sony's gaming pie. I'm saying exactly what I wrote earlier, which you clearly misunderstood. Have a quote:

"iPhone sucks for gaming unless 5 minute time waster games with no substance are all you need."

I don't know how you twisted that to me saying that Sony doesn't care about iPhone etc., when I'm clearly talking about the gamer's experience?

I would fire whoever made this tasteless ad!!!
What a low move from them!

How dare they say "I may never touch an iPhone game"?

...they should make it "I WILL never touch an iPhone game again" :D

Jihaad_cpt4405d ago

I meant to agree but then sneezed and hit disagree. Sorry.

PimpDaddy4405d ago

That is the problem. The PS Vita only appeals to the hardcore crowd that already owns a PS3 and PSP.

Sony has to expand the appeal of the Vita or it will continue to have poor sales.

They need to drop the price, advertise better, and make games that appeal to people who want to play games on the go.

GribbleGrunger4405d ago (Edited 4405d ago )

you can't just put in a request for a game and expect it delivered the following day. i'm sure that the games are in the works, it's just about making sure they come up to the Vita standard. we have to be patient at this point. advertising would be nice though

gypsygib4405d ago

Apple won't respond and isn't at all threatened by Vita. Officially, iPhones are gaming handhelds

dark-hollow4405d ago

My calculator have games, does it mean its a threat to dedicated systems?

I can draw easily with an etch a skitch, does it mean its a threat to all professional software for artists?

I can be productive from my phone, does it mean it will replace PC's and laptops?

I can hum a song, does it mean all music instruments gonna lose market share for my superior humming skills?

Tommykrem4405d ago

No, your calculator is not a threat to dedicated gaming systems, because there are no demand for using calculators as gaming systems. Either because people don't know of the feature, or because people don't think the feature is good enough to justify purchasing the product. Now, take the iPhone on the other hand, which has really many games a lot of people really like - some of which are also found on Vita/PSP. Demand for games on iPhone is really high, and that affects the Vita, because a lot of people feel they get enough gaming from iPhone to not pay for an additional device that improves upon the experience.

GraveLord4405d ago

Offically, iPhones are PHONES. They are NOT gaming devices.

Tommykrem4405d ago

And welcome to the 21st century :P
Things do several things here.

Unexpecta4405d ago

I use a phone to call and contact people. I use a Vita to game my heart out.

Two totally different devices that shouldn't be compared or even be put in the same sentence.

360ICE4405d ago (Edited 4405d ago )

Just because you consider them two different devices doesn't mean people in general do. Sony considers iPhone a threat. Nintendo and Apple consider each others threats to, as they've taken jabs at each other several times.

Most "gamers" out there don't need much more than angry birds, and iPhone steals those people away from Vita. Now, people like us, who are willing to pay for a gaming dedicated device to up the experience may do so, and therefore iPhone isn't eating away all of the Vita's market (it does sell after all), but it undoubtedly eats away some of it. Interactions between Sony, like this one, and several others confirm that. (or at least support the notion)

bunfighterii4405d ago

Bold move and I hope it pays off. I really love my vita and I think the more people have one the better it is for gaming. I also get a lot out of my iPhone 4 and iPhone is hands down best smartphone on the market, but I just dont game on it at all, more web browse and read blogs and stuff.

krontaar4405d ago

Wow, sony's really grasping at straws now. I mean i love the vita and all, but this is just pathetic.

Dante1124405d ago (Edited 4405d ago )

@ kron

Guess you've never seen Mac vs PC commercials...or any commercials at all. This is the norm.

Sony Could Increase Your Game's Difficulty If It Sees You Complain About It

Sony has recently published a new patent that wants to dynamically handle the games' difficulty and gameplay based on the player's emotions.

jznrpg13m ago

This is something I might use. Sometimes I play some good games but they don’t have difficulty option and are a little too easy.

I had the LaserActive... it was a nice collectors piece but not very practical. Especially when it came to needing recapping. I think i paid all of about $50 for the floor model from an incredible Universe back in the day. I ended up selling it many years later for $300 at the time due to it needing a new laser and the aforementioned recapping.

An honorable mention not on the list would be the VM Labs Nuon. It basically looked like any regular DVD player but it had ports on it for controllers to play specific games. one of which is still exclusive to it with Tempest 3000. It also offered nuon enhanced DVD movies with extra content not accessible by regular players.
