If RE6 takes the road of RE5, then it's becoming like the new James Bond movies. They're good games, but they're not RE games anymore, despite the name and characters.

VanillaBear4399d ago

"but they're not RE games anymore, despite the name and characters."

Agreed but even the characters are changing, which to me is worrying

As I've said in my post below, this wouldn't be as bad if they brought back old characters to keep it as Resident Evil as possible, yet they don't. Capcom keep adding new pointless characters in the games when they could use old fan favorites they havent used for years.

Take RE Revelations....Jessica and Parker were Chris and Jills partners. Why could we of not had a game where Chris and Jill were together for a change for the entire game or since this was the beginging of the BSAA have the old STARS members Barry and Rebbeca join because of what happened in the Mansion incident.

I mean they've even added new characters for RE6, hell they've even added Chris again because he's popular and they want to gain more sales, yet I think in my opinion he's outwlecomed his stay, this should of been a Leon/Ada focus story.

You have Chris's new partner...which could of been Barry

You have Leons new partner...which could of been Claire/Sherry/Rebbeca

and you have a totaly new character with a new character for his partner...this could of been Carlos and his partner could of been Jill.

I know the old characters can't last forever but theres still a lot of old fan favorites who they havent used.

This issue is the same challenge any long-running piece of entertainment faces. If nothing changes than things grow stagnant and people lose interest. However, if the changes made ruin the core appeal, people lose interest anyway.

The question: Is Capcom making the right changes or not? Clearly the response has been negative, so hopefully they learn and listen to their core audience.

Kurylo3d4399d ago

why would they? there probably making more money away from the core audience.

Kurylo3d4399d ago

Its a pity that capcom are a bunch of sellouts. Its all about the money these days. We know action games will sell more. So its all about the money.. no longer about the games and entertainment. Mediocre action games will sell more then finely tuned horror games. Sad but true.

I liked it better when the game industry wasnt this huge "corporate" thing... where games were still new to 3d and were about making stuff that was innovative and really drawing u in... RE2 drew me in... re1 drew me in.. re5 i fell asleep playing. even though it was more "action"

VanillaBear4399d ago (Edited 4399d ago )

It's obvious it's the the "pressurised devolution" but I don't think the western audience has high expectations, they just want a good horror game like Dead Space or like the old Resident Evil games.

The problem is that Capcom are greedy and love money, they know that COD sells a ton so they're trying to make RE appeal to that fanbase, bring in a new audience so they can have a bigger audience overall...but the problem is all they are doing is p*ssing off their old fanbase and pushing them out. At the end, maybe after RE6 they'll probably have a completely new audience while only a small percentage of the loyal RE fanbase will still be there.

You get a lot of people, usualy the ones who like RE5, say "Oh you need to move on", "Action is the future of RE" or "RE5 sold a ton and it was pure action"......no we don't, no it's not and the only reason RE5 sold a ton was because on peoples expectations after RE4 and because of the brand name.

What bugs me more about Capcom is even after the complaints of RE5

Co-op
Terriable AI
No solo levels
Enemies can hold guns
Cover
No Horror
Action, action and more action
A chapter select
No merchent
Lack of Puzzles
A new character "Sheva" when they were going to use Barry or even rework the story to feature Jill from the start. Hell even after you fight Jill and save her you would think instead of telling Chris and Sheva to finish Wesker and stop him Sheva and Jill would switch and she would go with you, why would they make it so Sheva finished Wesker off. They should of left Weskers death untill they had a game where the old STARS memebers would be in the same game.

After reading the Relyonhorror "RE 4.5" article it's clear Capcoms idea for a bigger audience and the added co-op, rewokring most of the already great game they had is what killed RE5 and ruined the direction of the RE franchise

All those bad points about RE5 I've listed above dosen't seem to be adressed in RE6 by the trailer, it looks like they've built onto them instead. I mean three characters now, more co-op, each character has a partner, new pointless characters yet no Barry, Claire or Rebbeca, Zombies.....Oh wait they can hold guns deafting the whole point of why we wanted Zombies back basicaly making them NOT Zombies. It's pretty obvious that Capcom havent listen to their core fanbase with RE6 and why RE5 was a crap RE title.

<sigh>

Want to know the worst part, people will still buy RE6 day 1, complain about the action direction after they've completed the game and Capcom won't care because you've already given them a "happy sale".

Darth Gamer4399d ago

I agree. I don't think the western market has anything to do with this. We want a good horror based RE title just as mush as the rest of the "market". Capcom is looking at the success of the COD action oriented market and wants their share which is totally wrong. If we want to run and gun, we turn to COD or other action shooters but if we want to play a horror game, we used to go with RE. Sadly this is not the case anymore. Everything is slowly being melted into a big mix of action and whatever genre we are trying to create.

Sidewinder-4399d ago

Capcom just being sellouts is all.

rdgneoz34399d ago

I remember an article a bit ago, with Capcom saying survival horror was too small a market so they were going for more action. Then a few days later, articles asking if Last of US can reinvigorate the survival horror genre.

THe market isn't that small, its just people want a good survival horror game.

Tzuno4399d ago

i wonder if anyone on Capcom still has a pair of balls. i wonder

Lucretia4399d ago

it makes sense that its more action oriented. doesnt mean the atmosphere needs to be lost but lets face it.

if chris, jill, claire etc were still scared of zombies it would be dumb. They are professional Zombie killers, they know how to quickly and effectively take zombies and monsters out.

how can you make anything horror if your characters cant get scared?

only way for RE to be scary again is to ditch the whole cast and start over.

prob with that is everyone loves all the characters like i do so that would do way more damage.

im fine with the way its going, i loved all RE games but im glad the game has better combat mechanics and isnt just a puzzle game with a zombie theme anymore like they used to be.

just bring the atmosphere and hopelessness back capcom and you will make everyone happy.

If you're wanting more PSVR 2 support, you should probably buy all of these games.

Speak with your wallet!

Profchaos31d ago

Bit rich to have to buy games you don't want because you want Sony to support the expensive headset they sold us which cost as much as the console it runs on beyond paying third partys to support it.
Seriously in terms of first party we have horizon on day 1 and a gt 7 vr mode.

They seemingly have made little effort to support it beyond paying Capcom to make re games in VR or a second party studio to make firewall which was mismanaged.

I'm a day 1 psvr2 user and the only thing I'm excited for right now is PC support.

I commented recently this bespoke VR game development model we have right now clearly doesn't work

crazyCoconuts31d ago

On the one hand I feel like there's been plenty of smaller non-AAA games to play and occupy me as a supplement to my flat screen gaming.
But I agree that Sony has done nothing to elevate this beyond the niche it's in and into the mainstream where it would be economical to create AAA games for it.

Babadook731d ago (Edited 31d ago )

Most of these games are worth owning for most people; I own all but 2 of them in fact. So I agree with kevco33. I think you're crazy if you downplay this list quite frankly. Sony can't keep funding software if people don't buy any of it, the ball is squarely in OUR court.

Sony has spent a lot on 3rd party stuff this gen like RE.

phoenixwing31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

Saving up for the headset is my first hurdle. Let alone buying games I don't want lol

mudakoshaka31d ago

People downvoting you for not having enough finances...what a world we live in, haha

phoenixwing31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

@mudako
They feel affronted at the very thought that I don't plunk down 500 immediately lol I have a little over 900 games in my backlog I've been buying games instead of hardware ever since I got my PC and ps5. I just don't know if vr is really for me honestly. Every time I have a couple hundred allocated to video games it makes more sense to buy a bunch of flat games instead of vr ones

mudakoshaka31d ago

I have 9 out of these 10 games. I try to buy all the VR games I like to support the advancement of VR!

TheEroica30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

I spoke with my wallet after watching the first headset get weak support. Easy pass until Sony earns my money. Feel bad for those who parted with 500 bucks, falling for the hype that Sony was actually gonna support this thing.

I own 7 of these titles off the list, lol.

NotoriousWhiz31d ago

I'm trying to decide if it's worth holding onto my psvr 2. I enjoy what it has currently, but it seems unlikely to get anything else. Might be better off just waiting for something with more support if that ever comes.

Profchaos31d ago

As a fellow psvr2 owner the question seemingly comes down to do you own a PC.

I think I'm all in I have a habit to hold onto my systems anyhow I still have my psvr1 to hell I still have my NES.

But while it's still worth something yeah you could sell it and if Sony turns the ship around you should be able to buy another one for less than you soldmit for I feel like we won't see any fix for the headset for the next 2 years rumours show that Sony has no current first party VR games in active development after they closed London studios

The whole psvr2 situation has left me feeling a little burnt on PlayStation as a whole to be honest. The first psvr felt experimental but it was supported far more than this superior headset

MIDGETonSTILTS1731d ago

GT7 surprised me, because I hate racing games, but i poured 100 hours into it way too quickly.

I’m looking forward to the Metro VR game this year, and I hope that WW2 dogfighter game releases eventually.

talocaca31d ago

I have most of them 😅

Waiting for a sale on Synapse and Arizona Sunshine 2.....also Metro coming this year looks great.

Resident Evil 5 - 15 Years of Being the Most Misunderstood Resident Evil

Resident Evil 5 launched 15 years ago today - and it continues to stand as a stepping stone from the good to the bad.

TheBrainZ43d ago

One of my favourites because of the co-op. Then Resi 6 arrived and the series nosedived further.

Knightofelemia43d ago

I enjoyed the game co-oping with a friend I know the game in solo the AI can be an idiot but RE5 is way better then RE6. I played RE6 with a friend if it wasn't cheap when I got I would have avoided RE6.

thesoftware73043d ago (Edited 43d ago )

5 was excellent, still play Mercs with my brother.
I would love a fully remastered RE:5, with some added, reworked content. The DLC for 5 was also excellent.

6 was awful.

CrimsonWing6943d ago

I never understood why the game was misunderstood. It was a fantastic game at launch and is still fun today to play. It’s as action packed as Resident Evil 4 was, yet that’s regarded a masterpiece 🤷‍♂️

chobit_A5HL3Y43d ago

it was "misunderstood" because they introduced co-op into the franchise at a time when people loved to have fake rage about co-op. like, you could play the game as a solo experience, but people chose to have their bandwagon rage because it was cool at the time lol

-Foxtrot43d ago (Edited 43d ago )

What the hell are you talking about? Fake Rage? Bandwagon? Come on.

You can play it solo but you are forced to carry around a shitty AI partner you have to micro manage. It wasn't as fun solo.

Co-op sucked all the horror, tension and suspense from the game because having a partner covering you was like a safety net. Enemy trying to sneak up on you? No sweat the AI will just automatically lock on, alert you while they shoot first telling you where they are basically.

It was the start of Capcoms fall with the Resident Evil series where it basically become an over the top generic action game which betrayed it's own survival horror roots. Least RE4 had a good blend of both but Capcom just went the wrong way with RE5, especially going off what they were going to do during the RE4.5 beta phase before co-op was added.

franwex43d ago

At least the game was a ton of fun tho. If the game was bad, the outrage would’ve been justified. They simply pivoted for a couple of games. At this point it’s bad because it’s called Resident evil 5? But if was called something else it would’ve been good? Please.

chobit_A5HL3Y42d ago

like i said: fake baby rage and bandwagon hate. res4 wasn't really that scary, either, and was already taking the series into more of an action-oriented direction at the time. 5 was a good game that people fake-hated because of co-op that you didn't even have to play lol hence the fake rage and bandwagon hate. i mean, it obviously did well enough for capcom to go ahead and make 6 the way they did, right? if 5 was so bad, they would have changed what 6 was during development. the difference is that 6 was actually just bad.

people "hate" 5 because res4 was so good, and 5 was just unfortunate enough to be its successor. like i said, 4 wasn't scary, either, and relied more on tension than horror, but it was already more of an action game. if you don't wanna like 5 because it's not scary or whatever- that's fine, but it wasn't meant to be strictly a horror game anymore at that point anyways. the gameplay was a lot faster-paced than 4, so saying that the ai helping you by potentially shooting someone that was sneaking up behind you is a moot point. there were more enemies that were more aggressive, along with newer threats.

5 isn't as good as 4, but it's not a bad game by any stretch.

Tody_ZA17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

What? I always thought RE5 had fake controversy because it was set in South Africa and you shot a bunch of black zombies. I live in South Africa and thought the game was absolutely awesome, played the whole thing co-op with my brother.

@Foxtrot I think you're confusing the garbage Dead Space 3 with Resident Evil 5. Resident Evil 4 was already a hyper action game and had zero fear factor other than the grotesque appearance of some enemies.
