Vigil – Wii U Hardware on Par With Current-Gen

Vigil's Marvin Donald claims the Wii U is on par with current gen systems...

Doesn't seem like he knows what he's talking about. He's a game director but not somebody who is working with the graphics and dev kits. Or maybe he was just saying that the game will be graphically on-par with the PS3/360 version. This is going to cause a lot of controversy.

Honestly, this is a bad sign. He has seen the Wii U version compared to the PS3/360 versions so I think he'd be saying it looked noticeably better if it did.

Difference is though that they aren't polishing the visuals up for the Wii-u. They are just leaving it as is. This doesn't mean the Wii-U can't do better.

Why does it sound weird? If Wii-U would be that much better than 360/PS3 it would make sense to "uprez" (ok this is a weird word xD). IMO he means that it will run 720p on every console.
I've been pesimistic about the Wii-U hardware but thought multiplatform games would run @1080p on it.
Optimistic would have been 1080p, 2x/4x MSAA, high res textures...
Maybe he is talking about early devkits as stated in the article.

WiiU is REAL next gen and supposedly on par with MS next system according to IGN.

There's really no clear evidence to point to, bu indo believe there is an assertive effort to make all multiplatform games perform similarly on each respective platform. The only one which I can say is usually head and shoulders above the rest is the PC, and really only occurs when it's optimized for said platform.
I gather many developers wouldn't want to cause anarchy amongst console fans so they create a "balanced approach" to development. I always thought it would be best to utilize each platforms strengths, however that might prove to be costly for development. Who knows really?

Vigil Games: "We had the game at the same level as high end pc version in a matter of days and a few lines of code got the game up and running on tablet in 5 mins."

And those were quotes from E3 2011. The Wii U has gone through around 5 hardware revisions so it's only gotten better since then.

it sounded as if the guy was going round the houses with all the umming and ah-ing he was doing. i think he means that the game will be on par graphically. in the first year of its life it will be like other consoles only first party games showing what the system is capable of.

but to be honest there isnt going to be a huge gap in quaility.

well considering what other developers have said, its definetely not on par, maybe just a little more powerful, maybe a lot, we still dont know, but we have heard other developers say the WiiU could do 1080p with no problem, that alone means its not on par.

If i had to guess, this is just a comment about the game itself taken out of context (yeah i know...that never happens) just to get hits...

Ill just wait for E3 and see how powerful it is

yeah it is badly written. they just put in lots of "you know" all thru out it seems very amateurish. it does reek of fake, and this site has been putting out a lot of so-called insider knowledge recently.

Interestingly enough, whenever we've gotten "insider" stuff, it's been at around the same time the same rumors pop up in neogaf or some european website (this includes stuff that we have not been allowed to report).

My guess is that "the powers that be" make a conscious decision to feed "leaks" to multiple sources, presumably to maintain interest in the WiiU even as no official info is released.

For the record, our source has stated that he/she rarely ventures into neogaf, and that he/she is not the same person that posts the "leaks" there. Personally, whenever I hear a new rumor seemingly appear in more than one site from sources independent to each other, I think such a rumor becomes much more credible. As an ign board user and a reader in general, I've learned to wait until the same rumor appears in different sites before voicing my opinion, good or bad.

You know, instead of jumping straight into the comment section to call out the "FAKE" warcry.

Maybe this is all that Nintendo wants the WiiU to be able to do. Keeping the system cheaper then 720 and PS4 mite be a good reason why this machine may not be leaps and bounds ahead of current gen tech. I do know this though, I will not be buying a new Nintendo to play Darksiders 2 when I have a functional PS3/360. Btw, upscaling a game from 720p to 1080p on new hardware doesn't seem like it should be praiseworthy. Shouldn't that be an expectation?

I suppose what's "wrong" with the lot of us is that the quote does not seem to hold much water given that it contradicts, not only itself from previous statements, but various other developers who suggest that the Wii U is significantly more powerful.

It's hard to take this in as a credible/legitimate quote when it just seems so... not.

It is no surprise. the compliments that the Wii U has gotten have been rather ambiguous. People have called it a "powerful console" but that doesnt mean it will still be powerful be next gen standards (no one can honestly believe it will stand up to the next playstaion or xbox). The wii was more powerful than the PS2 and original xbox, but I think we all know how that turned out. powerful does not equal "next gen."
