Starhawk: Splitscreen Head-to-Head and Co-op Multiplayer

OMFG, yes!! Split-screen! Great news, I'll be playing this with my girl - she really liked the build-your-base gameplay, and we were hoping to find something good to play together! Now, if only there was also a co-op mode... oh wait, there IS! :)

She really likes the build-your-base gameplay you say? Hmmm, she wouldn't happen to be one of those players I described below now would she? Don't tell me she's one of those helpfull players that like to build their own little kingdoms in the middle of nowhere, and get mad when I show up & level the place? And how many walls does she build to protect the flag? If it's more than 3 then please don't let her play online again. If it's 3 or less, ladders on the inside or outside?

She never actually played it, just watched me doing so and loved what she was seeing. She was excited, but she doesn't like to play alone, and since there's no split screen or co-op in the beta, she didn't felt like playing.

She's not a skilled player by a long shot, but she does like to play games when she has guidance or something like a role assigned to her. For instance, she's a terrible shooter and have lousy reflex, but she does like to play as a medic in Battlefield and help team mates from a safety distance. Her role is always a supportive one and, as so, she likes to be part of the experience without getting in the way. In that sense, I’d say she’s even a better team player than I am.

Don't be so fast to assume the person ruining your experience is a girl - girls can be just as good team players as anyone. Don't be eager to assume it is someone who got into the game for the build-your-base gameplay either, for that's one of the things that got me into it and yet, I only build what I think it is necessary. In fact, and most importantly, don't assume that someone is ruining your experience with it, for you might be the one ruining someone else's experience just for not be playing the game the way you wish they were playing. It is a game, and it is supposed to be fun above anything else. So stop with the snob attitude and learn how to be a team player instead of judging others for not be as skilled and learned as you are. Want to enhance the experience you are having with it? Try to communicate with people, explaining them what’s your strategy and why do you think it might work, teaching them what do you know. If you just point fingers and complain about everyone being stupid you won’t get very far.

I was just joking Dmd, bit too much perhaps. It was the "really like to build" part of your comment that got me. I've been playing the beta quite a lot, and even with positive communication the teamwork just isn't there and the random building ruins it too often. So when I read your comment I thought of those games but nevermind, ofcourse that's not your gf to blame for, and by no means did I try to insinuate that girls ruin gaming, played enough MAG with girls in the clan.

Thank God for Offline Splitscreen and Co-op. Most people on TD, ZNS, and CTF don't know what the hell they're doing. I've had situations where I'm the ONLY one on my team going for the flag, and when I manage to get it, two idiot teammates on a Jeep drive right past me lol.

Oh the stupidity in Starhawk, it's almost unbelievable at times. Few days ago I had the flag and just before I delivered it home me & my Razorback were crushed by a wall, build by a friendly. I don't think he even knew.

But the biggest problem this game has, especially with modes like CTF, is the fact most teammates don't know or don't care about the 32 building cap. After update 1.3 going from 16 players to 32 it became very clear that a good building strategy is key to winning, and that many matches become frustrating within minutes for those who actually want to win. They just keep on building walls and turrets untill nobody can build anything anymore. Need a garage for a quick getaway with the flag? No sir, we build 3 at our base. So you drove your tank all the way in artillery range and want to raise a shield? No sir, we just build a 3rd snipertower. Outpost close to their base? Not possible, but we build 2 halfway the map and one at the bottom of the crater, doing nothing. And if you politely ask them to please dismantle one obsolete little thing so you can win the game for them, nothing happens.

Fortunately this is not the case all the time, I've witnessed some pretty epic and fluid battles with good teamwork. When played right this game is very fresh & addictive. Well balanced imo, you don't have to be good in a Hawk to win or have a decent KDR. I love the tank & the jetpack myself.

Sucks the second player won't be able to unlock any customisations. Now we'll have to take turns switching who player one is.

Can't wait for this to release, will continue playing Twisted Metal right up til this releases.
