Complex Review: Let "Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City" Whisk You Away To Action Game Heaven

Operation Raccoon City is the whip crack quick, cucumber-cool Resident Evil action game that Capcom has been wanting to make for years. When you consider it in the context of Revelations, the recent 3DS title that leaned more on classic RE games for inspiration, it becomes clear that Capcom's apparently decided to please both sides of their divided fanbase by creating two kinds of Resident Evil.

There is honestly no possible way to gauge the quality of this game given the reviews I have seen so far. Im not saying that complex is the place I would go for game reviews but damn, there is literally a five point gap between the lowest and the highest scores.

Agreed...I am wondering if the lower scores are from people who are just big fans of the other RE games and are a bit biased.

8/10's and 7/10's don't seem surprising but a 3/10? That is akin to a game that freezes, doesn't have any coherent story or at the very least is simply broken. I doubt the game is as bad as some of these reviews are saying. It is a shame that games can't just be judged by the game itself but have to be compared to other games...

That is why I will be renting it today if Blockbuster has any copies left when I get off work.

Behind AC: New Horizons, this is my 2nd most wanted game this year.
Until Capcom remade RE2, RE3: Nemesis on PS1 was my favourite RE game.

Tross1504d ago (Edited 1504d ago )

I do think it's easily one of the most underrated RE games. I'm looking forward to fending off REmake Nemesis, especially since I heard his appearances throughout the game will now be somewhat randomized.

Umbrella chronicles is still my favourite it was really cool going back and playing the classics with updated graphics.

Nerdmaster1504d ago

I would say I thought Darkside Chronicles was better mainly because 2, Code Veronica and 4 (kind of represented in the game by Leon and Krauser) are my favorite games. But the super shaky camera in Darkside really bothered me...

Late in the Game Review: 'Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City'

The Gamer's Ghost returns in this Late in the Game Review series to revisit Raccoon City. Did Slant Six Games' premier Resident Evil title hold up to the series' standards? Or was it rotten, like the very zombies spawned from Umbrella's dastardly research?

I actually thought this was a fun game. Was it great? No. But there were some very cool moments in the game.

Stand outs were taking on the Nemesis with a group and the Tyrant on the elevator.

One if the worst games I ever had the dishonor of playing I'm glad Capcom has rebounded to making quality games now even outside the RE series.
