Do we really need yet another Mario?

Roger Sandbakk: I know this sounds weird, but do we really need yet another Mario? Do we really need another 'Legend Of Link But It Sells More If We Have A Woman In The Title So Let's Name It After Zelda' game? Don't get me wrong, I do love Mario and Zelda - the problem is I had a lot of fun with them years ago, so how come we keep getting the same games over and over?

Mario will always be here to save the industry and push the industry in the right direction.

Mario is responsible for many innovations used in gaming today. Innovations that now span all consoles and genres. May it be 2D 3D or 120 frames per second in 4D. Mario will always be around to show developers how to do things the proper way.

Mario 64 alone is one of the, if not the most influential gaming Nintendo exclusive experiences of our time.

Rated E For Everyone

I'd love to see my buddy Mario again! :)

Shok4427d ago

As long as they innovate like they did with the Galaxy games then yes.

People can say Mario is over-played all they want, but the reality is that since Mario 64, the games have always been so different compared to the previous game. Sunshine was different than Mario 64, and Galaxy was a lot different than Sunshine.

(Yes, SMG2 was essentially the same thing.......because it was a direct sequel lol)

And even Mario 3D Land was something we haven't seen before from a Mario game.

I can't imagine what a Mario game on the Wii U will be like.

I think you're right on the money with each 3D Mario experience being new and unique (save for the one direct sequel they did for Galaxy). It's like saying that the early 2D Mario games are exactly alike despite only sharing some basic game functionality and aesthetic design.

It's fine to have an opinion, but Nintendo's software sales contradicts that theory (consumers want another Mario).

SEGA Hasn't Given Up On Competing Against Mario With Sonic

SEGA’s Second Division Manager, Osamu Ohashi, wants to surpass Mario by strengthening the Sonic IP.

TheColbertinator164d ago

Pointless really. Mario is galactic .

SinisterMister164d ago

So is Sonic, but at a lesser level comparatively.

Snookies12161d ago

Nah, Sonic is definitely iconic but it will never be at the level of Mario. Much less surpass it...

Knightofelemia163d ago

They can compete but Mario will always win. Mario and Sonic cater to different fans or fans who like both.

jwillj2k4163d ago

Give sonic a reason to run fast mix in some Saw and Texas chainsaw features.

Barlos163d ago

Sonic doesn't have to compete though. Both are their own thing, there's plenty of room for them both.

Inverno163d ago

Thing is Sonic despite the bad games is still an icon as big as Mario, probably bigger cause he's seen more in media than Mario. More cartoons, more movies, more memes. So on that end he's good, they just gotta stop making bad games.

Rebel_Scum163d ago

Nailed it. Tbh though Sega don't know how to make a good Sonic game anymore.
