PS3 System Software Update (v4.11)

PSBlog: Later tonight we’ll be releasing an optional system software update (v4.11) for PlayStation 3. This minor firmware improves certain aspects of system software, and is not mandatory to connect to PSN.

Again, this update is optional in the US and Canada, and can be downloaded by selecting System Update from the Setting column of the XMB.

In Brazil (SCEA runs PSN here) it's mandatory too.

Don't know about other SCEA territories (USA, Canada, Mexico, etc), have anyone tested to verify if it's really optional anywhere? (not that it's a bid deal anyway)

It's ridiculous because people like otherZinc can't be bothered waiting a short while for their service to be improved. People seem to think that there are far more updates on PSN than there actually are.

Actually the internet browser was broken on the previous update before 4.10, it would freeze all the time, 4.10 fixed it quite a bit, but it's still not where it was before these updates. Can't watch videos smoothly like I used to. :\

Because updates are for the system's software. What you asked was very redundant.

Like asking if an oil change is for your car or just the oil tank.

so im wondering, all the updates and shit, say you've updated 6 times at 150mb each update, 900mb total, is that 900mb on your hd space? or is it like pc drivers you uninstall one and it installs the new random, yeah im a hd space junkie =p

There's only been two update to the PS3 this month.

8th Feb and today... the last one was November.

The 360 has had 3 in the past 6 months, the October one being a "software stability" patch and the one today fixing the performance.

PSN software updates and the interface accompanying it are absolutely the most annoyingly clumsy processes I've encountered in console gaming.

I switch on my PS3, pop in my game disc, start the game, game loads, informs me there's a software update for the game.

I update, wait for install, restart game, game loads, informs me there's a PSN software update,

I have to exit game, software update, wait for software install, restart game, game loads, informs me I have to exit game to sign in and agree to new terms...

Takes more than 15 goddam minutes to get a game started.

This update fixes problems with the internet browser. I can now download and install themes directly from the Ps3 browser again. After the 4.10 update it was messing up when i tried to download themes.

Ah sweet, hopefully this sorts out the internet drama im having with mine. I use my ps3 to stream tv shows & it froze suddenly the last few times, I eventually just gave up!
Must remember to do this after work!
