The Future of Legacy of Kain

In the first few years of the 21st Century, the Legacy of Kain was a big action-adventure video game franchise. A high-concept gothic horror story that mixed complex vampire mythology with time travel, heady philosophy, and even aliens (sort-of), the five games in the series are still cited as some of the most ambitious projects in the entire industry. However, the increasingly convoluted--though impressively consistent--plot, along with at least one lackluster title, Blood Omen 2, kept the franchise from bringing in many new players. As such, it declined in popularity about as quickly as it rose, and poor sales for the fifth entry, Defiance, caused the cancellation of a planned sixth (and allegedly final) game, The Dark Prophecy, back in 2004. Since then, it has been largely assumed that the legacy is dead.

Still, the rumor mill has been stirring lately with the possibility that the franchise may be born again, like Raziel from his Sarafan crypt.

Oh man...if I had the money, I would have gladly funded the final game. I don't even care if it loses sales, I'd just be happy it was released!

morganfell4460d ago

At this point in time they would have to do a reboot rather than make a sequel. As the game series with the greatest v/o cast ever it won't be equaled with a reboot due to the passing of the phenomenal Tony Jay. The only way to pull it off would be to reuse the tracks he laid down for the originals.

I still remember playing the Dreamcast version of Soul Reaver. What an incredible game.

Gaming miss this franchise :(

saint_seya4460d ago

Legacy of Kain, in my all time top 10 list of best story.

many if not most games and hollywood movies that involves time travel to change events will have too many inconsistent and loose details. LOK's story was incredibly well woven and the questions it posed were highly intrguing at the least.

this, and the characters and voice actors, marvelous to say the least.

Crystal Dynamics or Silicon Knights, i beg of thee, bring back LOK, don't leave us with one of gamings most burning cliffhangers.

The 7 Best Vampire Games: Embrace the Night

Vampire games are making a comeback of late, and gamers hoping this is a new trend should look back at the 7 best vampire games ever made.

SimpleSlave23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

What is a list? A miserable little pile of scribbles.

A Best Vampire Game list and no Bloodborne. A bold choice, indeed.

The_Hooligan23d ago

IMO, I wouldn't consider bloodborne a vampire game. Long story short, It's more about the side effects of the blood experiment and the influence of the red moon, than actually being a vampire.

SimpleSlave23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

Yes, Bloodborne is about Vampires. It's not just the undertones, or the imagery or the obvious parallels, it's pretty much everything and then some. Here's the thing, Bram Stoker's Dracula is also not a Vampire novel. Why? Because technically Vampires from folklore were something else.

But based on our updated view of what Vampires are, informed in one way or another by Bram Stoker's Dracula, Nosferatu The Vamprye, and many other stories, and combined with From Software's own interpretation, we can say with confidence that Bloodborne IS a Vampire story. Sure, there are other elements, but the central narrative is pretty much Vampires. Which would make it THE Vampire game. I mean, Cainhurst Castle. Anyways, that's how I see it.

But to each their and we'll agree to disagree.

MEGANE23d ago

Thats the best Vampire game ever, but enough talk, have at you!.

SimpleSlave23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

Absolutely... Now, die monster! You don't belong in this thread!

🧛🔥🔥 🔥

I've lost all hype for Bloodlines 2. It's going to be an action game.

Barlos23d ago

No Blood Omen? Even today it's one of my favourite vampire games. We could really do with a release on modern platforms.

I really enjoyed Vampyr. The combat is a little clunky and could use some work. However, the story, characters, dialog. setting, and pretty much everything else in the game is great.

It's High Time For Legacy Of Kain To Make A Return

Crystal Dynamics' interest in Legacy of Kain and the new secret playtest rekindle hopes for the epic vampire journey's much-needed revival.

GaboonViper270d ago

I approve of this very VERY much.

ApocalypseShadow270d ago (Edited 270d ago )

Yeah. It would be nice.

But kind of hard to do when they are tasked in helping TRILLION dollar companies finish making their games. Just blows your mind right? Sucks the life right out of you like a vampire.

Shikoku270d ago

They need to do it quick the voice talent isn't getting any younger and we need a wrap up of the story of Kain and Raziel.

Miraak82 270d ago

Man I can only imagine what a modern take of Nosgoth would look like past and present. Have Blood Omen with D4 style top down graphics and Soul Reaver taking advantage of SSD and physical/spectral plain shifting with modern graphics and updated combat ,,,, drool :p Honestly they could condense soul reaver 1,2& defiance in to 1 game if they ever do a remake , make it a huge epic arpg

neutralgamer1992270d ago

Yes and start with a proper HD collection of all games
