Looking For A Video Game That Is a ‘Literary Masterpiece’? Try Odin Sphere

Kotaku: The last thing I want to do is start another debate about video game storytelling. That sounds almost as fun to read as an article about any other dead horse that we've repeatedly body-slammed over the last few years.

I couldn't recommend this game more! beutiful art style, brilliant story, well fleshed out characters and great gameplay, a game that really does deserve to be called a masterpiece =)

Game would be a masterpiece if every stage wasn't repetitive and featured that damn circle design. Art style is gorgeous. Make it Metroidvania style and BOOM! I'm sold.

Odin's Sphere is amazing, specially the story but the game's framerate when there are too many enemies on screen at the same time breaks completely. That's why I only finished Gwendolyn's story and stopped playing the game. I really wanted to play as Oswald but forget it....

The framerate problem was only in NTSC copies, it was fixed for the PAL release.

Son_Lee is right about the repetitive part and it may need a forgiving player to appreciate it, but it's still a fantastic game on all levels (gameplay, story, visuals, music, voice acting both english and japanese).

Unfortunately the game didn't help me carry on when i reached Oswald's story. his power move only worked for a fraction of a second and he was harder to control then the others before him (a bit too loose). because of that and the fact i became tired of going through the same recycled levels (except story) i disappointedly stoped playing.

nonetheless, a must play for fans of the genre.
Atlus should make another.

It takes a ton of work to produce 2D graphics lavish enough to strain a contemporary game system. This is in fact George Kamitani's modus operandi, exemplified by both Dragon's Crown and its artbook. If the preface in the artbook is anything to go by, Dragon's Crown is George Kamitani's love letter to gaming as a whole.
