More fun comes to those who game with an open mind

Games are meant to be played. So let's start enjoying them for what they are.

I think the trick here is growing up. If you're really concerned about what people might think if you play Mario or whatever, then just wait until you realize that it doesn't and shouldn't matter.

I can't stand closed minded gamers.

“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”
― C.S. Lewis

I find it funny how people use the games they play as a measure of how mature they are. "I'm a mature gamer because I play mature games", as if kids aren't all over games like Call of Duty, Gears of War, and Halo these days. How can you call Mario kiddy and then go play a game like CoD where you see a bunch of little kids on it? That doesn't make any sense.

Kids like blood and gore. They think it's cool. There's hardly ANY actual mature games out there these days. Cursing marines, blood and gore, partial nudity, aren't really mature these days in games because of the way they're executed and presented. Only few games actually do those things right, like Heavy Rain.

Mario is more mature then all CoD combined.

Fylus4482d ago (Edited 4482d ago )

That's because Mario is a drug addict. ;)

Haha, get it? Cuz the... Mushrooms... Yeah...

Wow. I never thought I'd see C. S. Lewis quoted in the comments section of N4G. You've really elevated the dialogue, Shok.

All joking aside, I absolutely agree with Lewis (and the article) on this point. An obsession with maturity is a sign of childishness.

This title is awesome...
I'm primarily and Nintendo gamer and I'm really excited for WiiU.
Before being a Nintendo gamer I'm just a gamer.
Fun is the priority... One of the most fun I've had recently... Uncharted 3. Gamers need do grow up an respect all gaming systems.

Kids jump on the more "mature" game because they have a poorly developed idea of masculinity

Men play whatever the hell they want because they don't need anyone's validation

If you play something because you think it's more mature, it's not because you are mature, but because you need something to tell you that you are. A man can play any game he wants because he knows what he is and a game won't change that.

Fylus4482d ago

That's some manly wisdom right there^

Agreed.

This is why I'm grateful for the Wii renewing my interest in video games.

Actually Ryan Gosling makes a ton of sense.

Edit: If this can be done in a Scott Pilgrim movie kind of way that would be dope.

The more I think about it, the more I kinda want it to be a thing lol. Ryan Gosling would be awesome. He would need to play it less serious, but he's shown that he can be a goofball.

My top 3 are Mario 3, Mario World and Mario 64. Mario Odyssey is also excellent, and I enjoyed Sunshine but didn't care for the Galaxy series.
