So I paid for Elite, but I still have to wait?

A major outcry by PS3 Modern Warfare 3 players as Activision announced that the first maps for Call of Duty Elite members would launch on January 24th to XBox 360. They did not mention any release information for PlayStation 3.

No surprise here. Still dont understand why PS3 players are all shocked and surprised by this ever >.>

lorianguy4480d ago

I'd even go as far to say that not giving PC users a premium option was actually a good thin for them. They always get an even shorter end of the stick than the PS3 community.

OC_MurphysLaw4480d ago

Agreed... what do people not understand about the xbox timed exclusivity for DLC? PS3 elite owners still get maps, and still get them before non-elite PS3 owners. Seems pretty straight forward. If you are that hurt about not getting maps early for MW3 you should invest in a 360.

Now here is a question... if you buy Elite, is it console specific? I ask as I genuinely don't know. I mean if I am an Elite member and have both PS3 and 360 do I get maps for both?

urgentfury4480d ago

It is console specific, so you have to purchase Elite for each console.

lorianguy4480d ago

Console specific. And you can't just "invest in a 360". People use certain consoles for a reason - be it friends, exclusives, free online, etc.

I'm a PS3 gamer, but I have no horse in this race. I havn't been willing to play CoD since CoD4. Since then they've all been $60 expansions to CoD4 that have gotten continually more glitchy and exploit filled as far as I'm concerned and not worth a dime I make. So I'm just looking at this from a "what's right" perspective.

I understand the early DLC deal ACTIVISION made with MS, and that's fine for all the regular players on each of those services. But the ELITE plan is specifically a subscription service between the player regardl;ess of platform and ACTIVISION, and therefore it's only right that all ELITE members, whether they be on PSN or Live, should get the maps at the same time before EITHER of the services get the maps to distribute.

I think even legally all ELITE members should have it at the same time because of the basic "contract" directly between consumer and activision would superceed/over-rule the contract between activision and another 3rd party or middle-man, which in this case is Microsoft. I really think Elite members on PS3 have a bit of a case here for Activision breaking the "contract" (which is the subscription)'s promised service. At the very least they should all be refunded unless they get the maps on the same day. Just the Elite members. All non-elite mebers on PSN are irrelavent here.

Bubbles.

This is what I and others have been trying to say, but I don't think I've seen anyone say it as well as you did.

This really does suck. I bought MW3 on ps3 cus that's where most of my friends are, I paid the same for the game + elite as I would have done had I bought it for 360 and yet I don't get the same service??

The 360 getting the dlc a month before ps3 in past CODS was bad enough but understandable, however when you throw in a 3rd party sub into the mix I find it unacceptable.

The only positive is that providing elite dlc is every month when 360 gets content pack 2 ps3 will be getting content pack 1 and so on. My point being at least after Feb ps3 will still get a regular stream of content via elite (or should do)

gamingdroid4480d ago

What surprises me is why would anyone think differently?

I mean, you paid the same for the game and map packs in the past, yet got them later on PS3. What do you think changed with CoD: Elite?

It's like, the problem is staring you in the face, you buy it, then you proceed to complain about it!

Sounds like a lot of those under the water home owners in the US.....

peeps4480d ago (Edited 4480d ago )

Well in the past you had 2 platforms. the 360 required a subscription to play online which presumably helped fund this exclusive map deal with Activision for the last few COD games.

By introducing this Elite subscription I believe all elite members should get the dlc at the same time, then the other deal takes effect i.e. standard 360 owners followed by standard ps3 owners.

Edit: I understand why the deal is the way it is but I really don't agree with it when a 3rd party subscription is involved.

gamingdroid4480d ago (Edited 4480d ago )

@peeps

***Well in the past you had 2 platforms. the 360 required a subscription to play online which presumably helped fund this exclusive map deal with Activision for the last few COD games.***

... and by your logic nothing has changed? Xbox 360 owners then presumably pay more than PS3 owners as they both pay the subscription. Therefore, it seems reasonable Xbox 360 owners should get it before everyone else.

Christopher4479d ago

***What surprises me is why would anyone think differently? ***

Where in his post did he say he thought differently? He only shared his opinion on the fact that they get it later, not that he did not expect it.

Last time I checked, everyone is allowed to share their opinion.

gamingdroid4479d ago

@cgoodno

***The 360 getting the dlc a month before ps3 in past CODS was bad enough but understandable, however when you throw in a 3rd party sub into the mix I find it unacceptable.***

He now expects it to be different, simply because there is a subscription involved.

nuff said.

***Last time I checked, everyone is allowed to share their opinion.***

Did I say that NOT "everyone is allowed to share their opinion"?

... but since you are checking, yes you are allowed no matter how wrong it is.

He never said that. He said he found it unacceptable. He did not say he expected anything.

***Did I say that NOT "everyone is allowed to share their opinion"? ***

Did I say you did?

gamingdroid4479d ago

***He never said that. He said he found it unacceptable. He did not say he expected anything.***

So he found it unacceptable, BUT DID NOT EXPECT ANYTHING ELSE? The fact you find something unacceptable MEANS you expected something else!

***Did I say you did?***

You certainly implied it with your comment directed at me, unless you were commenting to someone else?

Christopher4479d ago

***So he found it unacceptable, BUT DID NOT EXPECT ANYTHING ELSE? The fact you find something unacceptable MEANS you expected something else! ***

Wrong wrong wrong. You said, and I quote: "He now expects it to be different, simply because there is a subscription involved."

No. He did not say squat about expecting anything different just because a subscription is involved. He said nothing about what he expected, he only expressed that the status of it is unacceptable to him as a whole.

I can go into a restaurant and expect poor service, that doesn't mean that I can't find the service unacceptable even though I still expected it to be unacceptable. Yes, this happens every time my Mother wants to go to a specific restaurant for her birthday. I know what I'm going to get, I still find it unacceptable.

***You certainly implied it with your comment directed at me***

No, I didn't. If I say the sky is blue, does that mean that I believe that you think the sky is another color?

***The common outcry is why did we pay full price for Elite but we are not getting the map paks at the same time as XBox…***

Because Xbox 360 owners, was promised to get the maps before the PS3 owners. CoD: Elite never promised you would get the maps on PS3 at the same time as Xbox 360 owners.

That said, didn't Activision make some adjustments?

urgentfury4480d ago

Not any adjustments that we have been able to find...

Ethereal4480d ago

Hopefully the wait isnt too long. Bowling confirmed PS3 owners would get it far before non paying elite members.

Call of Duty Players Disappointed by $80 B.E.A.S.T. Glove Bundle Deal

Recently, players of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone were met with a new bundle featuring the B.E.A.S.T. Glove, inspired by King Kong's armament in the Godzilla x Kong movie. However, the $80 price tag attached to this themed accessory left many Call of Duty fans feeling underwhelmed.

Controversy in the COD community feels like it happens within an alternate timeline. Activision will take the piss with something, there will be a momentary fuss about it, and then they will forget about it and carry on anyway. Repeat this cycle literally every year for the rest of time.

Gridknac5d ago

They call that a crack head! Thats what this is really about, its an addiction. People who dont smoke cigarettes look and laugh at the addicts that spend $8-$10 a pack, but they cant help themselves, they are addicted. That same analogy applies perfectly to the whole MT industry. Only an addict that was not thinking clearly would spend this kind of money on something so frivolous. A round of multiplayer provides the same high a person gets from scratching a lotto ticket, or putting money on a sports bet. MT in general need to really be regulated because you have a generation of kids becoming adults who grew up only knowing the MT era of gaming. Its normal to them and they will in turn teach their kids the same by just being a gaming parent and getting their kids involved with them in gaming. Thats why no matter how ridiculous the headlines keep getting out of the MT industry, it never seems to fade or go away.

X-233d ago

I'm so tired of hearing about what they're doing with this game, its never going to change and it's never going to value the consumer over money, furthermore the people who engage so heavily in the microtransactions I guess allegedly are having a blast and can't wait to do it some more this year when the new version of the game drops.

Cheech And Chong Are Coming To Call Of Duty Because Everything Must Be Consumed

The famous comedy duo is the latest example of pop culture becoming one big grey blob

Christopher19d ago

Certain to have some sort of reference to their online store for CBD/THC chews, which is advertising heavily online the last month or two.

Sciurus_vulgaris19d ago

The randomness of the multiplayer characters is one of reason I quit playing COD after briefly returning in 2022. We got Space Marines, rappers, tree monsters etc. all in a series called “ Modern Warfare”.

OtterX19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

I think if there was ever a time for a competitor to rise up and take away some of Call of Duty's thunder, the time would be now. A military shooter that takes itself seriously, not sold out to Fortnitism. Easier said than done, I know... but the time is ripe.

I can't stand this stuff either.

Palitera18d ago

There are tons of MP shooters that make no profit, if you're looking for one of those

fsfsxii18d ago

You guys have been saying this shit since 2009. Fortunately, nobody’s bringing down cod anytime soon, if ever.

crazyCoconuts18d ago

I agree. I really didn't like how the silliness takes away the gritty origins. That and all the crazy effects... dunno. I'm still playing it but I'd love for someone to steal their cheese and cater to grittier players

OtterX18d ago

@fsfsxii It's not so much wanting COD itself to die as it is wanting this silliness to die. Like CrazyCoconuts said, it takes from the grittiness. Many OG COD players want a straightup Military shooter experience, not silly costume time at Carnival.

MW3 missed its easiest opportunity to give us some of the best Call of Duty maps ever made

From Bootleg to Black Box, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 made a heartbreaking mistake by not remastering the bizarrely forgotten maps from its namesake.
