Capcom comments on death threats made due to DmC: Devil May Cry

Capcom’s Christian Svensson recently made a short comment regarding the death threats Ninja Theory have been receiving for developing the upcoming DmC: Devil May Cry.

There's a huge difference between being passionate about a franchise you like and making death threats because you don't like the direction a game studio is taking that franchise. Yet this isn't surprising. Not when you hear the comments people make on online services like XBOX Live and PSN. Would people be so bold if the comments were attached to your personal Facebook account? Anonymity shelters them, that's why they act the way they do.

I agree with the what you say, but Capcom are silly for ignoring the bigger picture. Let's face it, the death threats aren't as serious as the DMC franchise going to hell and costing Capcom lots of money.

Capcom needs to realise the reason behind the negative emails and the so called death threats. If they can come out saying death threats are wrong, they can also come out openly and say what they are doing with the DMC franchise is wrong.

Not saying one is better or worse than the other, but the principles are the same - if something is wrong, admit to it, apologise and stop making matters worse.

I agree that Capcom need to take notice of the hate, while death threats are unacceptable they certainly convey the mood of the fans that have kept the DMC franchise popular.

If they are trying to sell this DMC to the Twilight crowd then so be it, but at least be honest. Personally I don't like where it appears to be going, but I'll judge it when it's released.

Capcom and Ninja Theory should just focus on the game.
But judging by the news reports, they have taken the fan back-lash to heart. And this shows, with changes to the games story last year, and the introduction of emo Dantes' 'Devil mode'.

If Capcom gave a crap about DMC, they'd be developing this game themselves, or chosen a capable developer like Kojima did with Metal Gear Rising (MGR).

In my opinion, Capcom are about to learn an important lesson. "Don't f*ck with the fan base".

As much as I like the franchise, I do not ever ever let myself become too attached to something I like. Not even the slightest. You approach every game as if it were new, then you review the game fair and square.

Exactly. Too many people don't give things a chance. The Fallout community did the same thing but little did they forget that a new game is better than no game. Sales and reviews also showed millions of people didn't care that Bethesda was going in a different with the Fallout franchise. If people don't like what they see with this new look of DMC then don't buy it. It's as simple as that. Nothing stopping them from enjoying the previous games.

It won't stop them from enjoying the older titles but it might send a wrong message to Capcom that people don't care about DMC as a franchise that's where it hurts.

Capcom as a whole doesn't seem to care what the fans output is anymore as is shown with the response of the Megaman Legends 3 cancel, I also remember Capcom having a section open up on Facebook to have people express their views on Raccoon City or about the RE franchise where the site was always close due to too much traffic.

Well, LevelHead, we bought Fallout 3 thinking it would be at least loyal to the canon of the franchise it's named after. Maybe, you know, have some of the old weapons, hell, even use the same statistics.

Boy, were we surprised. What we got what a great game, hell, a FANTASTIC game, no matter how buggy.

I don't care what Bethesda says, it feels like the story and other changes were made by a mod team, not a professional team of game developers dedicated to reviving a classic series.

Really no such thing as "new Dante" considering the Dante is Ninja Theory's DMC is the same one that is in Capcom's older DMC games. Capcom is over looking the project so this is also what Capcom wants. DMC is an origin story that is going back further than the prequel (set before DMC 3 which was set before DMC1).

This whole thing is propaganda, to which the outcome will be the same! The fact is, there is NO one who can replace Dante (Original) he's an icon and essentially is Devil May Cry! One would think Capcom would realize the error of their ways and correct it! If the creator (Hideki Kamiya) himself shows dis taste for the game, then you know it's a disaster! The project shouldn't have been put into production in the first place, especially by an outside company! There are other IP's Capcom has that they should bring back (i.e. Rival Schools, Breath Of Fire, Power Stone, etc...) instead of ruining a legendary flagship title such as Devil May Cry! However getting back to these so called "death threats", it's apparent Capcom is using this as a gateway to bait gamers, who they haven't already brainwashed into thinking DMC is actually going to be a good game. It looks nothing like a Devil May Cry game and looks more like a Prototype clone!

NOTE: I do not condone death threat, but there is a difference between a death threat and simple hate comments made online like the example I gave at the start. They have never cared about the fans, releasing mass DLC, new versions of the games after a few months and canning stuff they like, now all of the sudden they care? I've seen all the new videos of this new DmC reboot and i've played all 4 Devil May Cry games and let me tell you. There is nothing new i've seen in the gameplay that will make me want to buy this game. Ninja Theory changed the look of Dante into this Emo looking homeless guy in some ragged looking trench coat with the head/face of Edward for Twilight. No death threats with me, but Capcom should've rebooted Strider or Final Fight and just let Devil May Cry Rest In Peace. Capcom is doing nothing but milking a dry Cow with DmC and now that they've seen everyone not interested, they're trying to release new gameplay videos of the game like every couple of weeks. Keiji Inafune really Fuked Capcom up by OUTSOURCING all the production to the West: Bionic Commando, Dark Void and now DmC. I am going to laugh my @$$ off when nobody buys this game when it releases.
