Don't blame the industry -- blame gamers

Don't like certain trends in the industry? Are you supporting them with your purchases, anyway?

dedicatedtogamers4493d ago

But it is the companies that do it in the first place. Gamers didn't walk up to CAPCOM and say "please, please, take our favorite game franchises and put half of it as DLC downloads". I understand the argument: if you don't like it, don't buy it. And a lot of people do exactly that. They don't buy it. But some people do, and if the companies weren't so friggin' greedy in the first place, such practices wouldn't exist at all.

Times are tough. Its not 2002. With robust genres flourishing on Xbox,GC,PS2.

I always smile to myself when people complain companies are too "greedy". REALLY?

Co.'s are created for 2 things.
1. Provide service
2. Make most profit

Thats it.

Article's not to far off either. Blame the sheep/fish who purchase mediocre rehash titles. Companies are just going were the cash flows.

I'm an educated consumer. Therefore...i'm the minority.

Yes, a company can be too greedy.

It's fine for any company to seek a profit, but it's not alright to take advantage of your consumers. Whether it's retail or entertainment, you should balance your desire for profit with the desires/needs of your customer base.

The more discerning customers and those with good sense won't support practices like milking and nickel-and-diming, but the video game industry also has a large number of consumers who don't care; no matter how much the more educated buyers avoid these greedy practices, the average person will be oblivious. And because they can make money from it, companies can take advantage of that.

But make no mistake: it IS greed, and such greed is rarely, if ever, good for the industry.

This pieces nails it: People go to sites they hate so they can complain about them, they read articles about games they don't like so they can complain about how everything is a military shooter or whatever, and then when something comes out that isn't that, nobody buys it.

I'm guilty of some of that myself, we all are I'm sure, but I still bought Alan Wake, so that makes me a winner.

So, who exactly buys Madden every year? BECAUSE YOU'RE TO BLAME.

I dont think LIVE is worth the money so i didnt resubscribe.

I dont really like the 360 that much anymore so when my 360 RROD in March i didnt go out and buy a new one or get a repair.

I dont buy any DLC for games cause its not worth the money. 1/4 of the price of the full game for 5 maps or 2-3 hours of singleplayer. What a joke.

I dont buy new games anymore cause ive got so many to play and not alot of time to play them, so there is no need for me to pay £40 for a game that i might get a few hours into then another game is out. While that £40 is going to be £20 or less by the time i get back to it. Now i get a £10 or less game and dont have to worry about needing to get through it within a week or 2.

I have no need to read or watch a review to tell me if its a great game or not. I watch gameplay videos or play a demo to see if i like it or not. Ive played games like Dark Void its better then a 6/10 or Dark Sector which is an amazing game but got a 6-7/10.

Oh and the only COD games ive got are COD2, MW1 & MW2. NEVER getting another COD game.
