Is Ubisoft the best publisher on the planet right now?

Simply put, is Ubisoft the best publisher on the planet right now or the one to be most excited for? Before you call shenanigans take a look.

I'm not disagreeing with the variety of games part; however, I find no possible way EA should even be considered a "good" when they're the main proponents behind Online Passes, Nickel and Diming schemes to casual games (like Tetris), Bad PR to EXPIRED Online Pass Codes, shutting down dozens of their servers almost every year, and the list goes on and on. Fans should be outraged at their initial support for SOPA (their stance has changed since then) as well.

Best publishers right now are Take-Two, Nintendo, Activision, and say what you want but Square Enix too.

That logic doesn't really work. While Ubisoft is doing the same online pass ordeal, it's because EA was the first to show it was something they could exploit and they have shareholders to please. It would be the same if PSN and Ninty's online services had subscription like XBL. Blame would be constantly thrown at MS because of discovering a new avenue to make more money.

Ubisoft is 10 times worse than EA. their pretty much the worst publisher out there with their always online DRM on nearly every game.I would never even consider purchasing one of their products.

Ubisoft really hates PC gamers...and it's hard for me to say they publish good games when they blatantly make it known that one of my beloved platforms is hated in their eyesight. I put THQ above Ubisoft, at least they don't DRM us to death and they at least don't smacktalk to their potential consumers

I'd say:

1. Take-Two(Rockstar, 2K)

2. Ubisoft (they're not perfect but they understand the importance of quality)

3. Sony (PSN pass drops them on my list, but I've loved every game they've put out for years, except for Socom)

4. EA (They seem to at least be trying to court the hardcore and more niche crowds and I can respect that. Plus, they have DICE)

5. Microsoft (they have fallen from my grace with their Kinect push they have been pretty consistent in my eyes)

6. Nintendo (They never seem to let their franchises falter and even though I've love to see new IPs from them they make quality games)

7. Square-Enix (Deus Ex was dope lol)

8. Konami (Metal Gear, and thats about it)

9. Sega (Platinum has been delivering some good stuff for them, everything else is "eh" at best)

10. THQ (In their search for a flagship franchise they have ruined Red Faction and gave us Homefront, but they also gave us Darksiders, and Warhammer)

I'd say thats a pretty good list. I also like that you mentioned MS. I wish they would concentrate more on games like Sony, cause when it comes to pushing a product noone does it better! Regardless I have to go with my top 5 as;

Don't know about best publisher, although I am really looking forward to getting my hand on the new Rainbow Six game. I am wondering if Ubi will integrate Kinect voice and/or gesture commands, similar to how the old Xbox worked rather well with such voice commands with a headset.

Not sure who I would say is THE best as that's a tough call. Ubisoft are up there with the best of them in terms of the game series they have published except the crap Kinect games.

All of them suck with DLC and not finishing completed games 90% of the time, and even if they are making you buy extras that if included would cost 75% less. I'd rather pay $75 with no DLC than $60 and know DLC is coming at a later date, because it's so overpriced and blown out of proportion.

Eh, personally I'd be more inclined to throw my lot in with maybe Atlus or Konami, though I'm not sure I'm attached to any publisher enough to call them The Best. Atlus' handling of Demon's Souls has been fantastic, and their localization work is always top-notch. Konami has some cool projects in the works, some of which I'm desperately hoping get localized. When it comes to Ubisoft, I'm just not particularly interested in most of their franchises, and they have tons of DRM issues in their history. There's just nothing about them that I really find myself really liking.

a few times i downloaded some demo from psn, from EA
the game was always trying to make me accept the eula, when i just wanted to play the singleplayer, not online.
once, i started reading EA eula, and there was things that scared, like they have the right to pick my data used for my payments in psn, like visa data, and give it to 3rd party, etc.
i don't remember how it was written, exactly, but i remember it scared me, and i canceled and didn't accept the eula.

i guess in 2 years, 80% of boxed games will have an online pass, even if you don't play online, just for sending and seeing other people scores. what a shame...

i will have to go with take-two and valve. ubi games are good but not a lot of variety as EA and their attitude towards PC gamers is very bad. Take-two do a good job of letting the devs take their time to release a product.

Ubisoft has Assassins Creeds, Tom Clancy, and a handful of other OK titles.

Nevermind all the PS3 exclusives even though those titels crush Ubisoft but Sony also has Star Wars Galaxies, Everquest, DC Universe, and Planetside.

Nintendo: some of the greatest games ever only reason they are low on the list cause they are exclusives.

Now that i really think about it Square Enix is better than Ubisoft!

and for those who have no clue who Nexon and NCsoft are they are two publishers who have many high rated MMO's that are played GLOBALLY raking in Billions yearly.

as far as third party publishers, EA is the biggest and has the most diversity, but they get slammed for many questionable, un gamer like moves (starting online passes, server shutdowns, etc.) Ubisoft has thrown tons of sovelware on the Wii, Ghost Recon, Tom Clancy games havent been what they were before. Assassins Creed is an amazing series, but Ezio chapter was dragged on one too many games, although i still enjoy it.

I still think R6Vegas never got the credit it deserved, the game had amazing cover mechanics and came out the same time as Gears but Gears got all the credit for cover gameplay unfortunately.

R6V was an amazing FPS game with more SP gameplay strategy/depth than almost all console shooters released since and it had an amazing cover mechanic.

I almost wish R6V took off in popularity instead of MW but MW released the perfect type of game at the time - every one was so interested in the current US middle eastern wars.

That is funny. Ubisoft may make a decent amount of games but their quality is usually pretty poor. I would have to agree that either EA games or Microsoft Studios would be the best publishers. Both have great games in their lineups. Activision's time is over as long as they keep doing their "cookie cutter" strategy.

Ubi-crap earned the hatred of an entire platform. The "best" publisher would have understood how to combat piracy and reward their paying customers. Instead they put out DRM that is not only a FAILURE but causes more problems with paying customers than pirates. And how do they respond? by telling their "paying" customers to stop whining.

The "best" would have found a way. The PC community has had it fair share of knives-in-the-back, but this one is one of the deepest.
