Top console exclusives Sony/Microsoft should fight to the death for

Probably more fantasy than anything, but these possible games would be highly beneficial to the camp which managed to snag console exclusivity.

It would be a dream to see KotR hit consoles again....

The only game I'd love to see reborn that you left out is Oddworld. I know that one is due to hit XBLA soon, but a full NEW game would be great.

There is no Oddworld coming to Xbox anytime soon. They stole the franchise and then killed it. Even though Lorne Lanning begged to have it on 360 (God knows why?) MS refused. So the two Xbox HD remakes are coming to PS3, Vita, and PC(Texture Pack upgrades) only. And in 2012 Oddworld Abe's Oddysee is getting remastered with a new engine for PS3 and PC. Oddworld is my favorite gaming series and I don't think after what MS has done, they deserve such a beautiful and masterful series on their systems.

And for the record you have not played the first two Oddworlds. They are some of the best games you will ever play and perform and play better than 90% of AAA titles out today.

It's not a Sony thing you ignorant fool. MS gave a bunch of money to Oddworld Inhabinant to put their games on Xbox and Muncha dn the odd name was the mascot until MS's reps said HALO would be a better fit. Even add that cheezy 'combat evolved' although Bungie didn't want it, just cause they did marketing statistics that said it would sell better. MS has always dont this. This isn't about being a fanboy, it's about being a gamer and caring about your passion getting overthrown by the same company who has been sued time again for trying to monopolize the industries their in. Well the plan would be to re-release HD versions of Shenmue 1 and 2 in order to bring gamers up to speed. The Internet would explode of this happened. The fact that Sega is releasing Yakuza games every year in the U.S. shows that theres a strong American market for Japanese RPG's/beat em ups. If Shenmue 1 and 2 were to be re-released, I don't think it would be too much of a risk for Sega.

Sony and Microsoft both have the resources to claim timed exclusivity of any of those games if they really wanted to, although I do see your point.

Oh man, timed exclusivity is the worst thing ever... It's like slapping all of the fans of a game right in the face. Just release the game multiplatform or on one console alone I say. I really hate when they do it with DLC as well. It's bad practice and definitely shouldn't happen, but then again it makes money I suppose.

Errr..Halo, Gears, or Gran Turismo are more popular console franchises than 4 out of 5 of the games listed. And the only people that take Half Life seriously are PC gamers.

You tell me how many people are still playing half life 2 on console in 2011 vs those on pc because the number would be much higher on pc. Mods extend the life significantly longer and the fact we don't have to rely on official servers for multiplayer and don't have to wait for patches means that half life has seen a significantly stronger fanbase in the PC market.

Not necessarily. The COD franchise is currently the best selling franchise on BOTH the 360 and PS3. Both PS3 and 360 owners take COD seriously.

If you compare the sales of Half-Life games on the PC vs. Half-Life console ports, theres a HUUUUGE discrepancy.

^ That discrepancy is due to a multitude of reasons.
Some of them being that the game is regularly on steam sales for less than $3. Coupled with the relatively low hardware requirement and it's high rating, most people end up buying it eventually. I've ended up buying it three times due to bundles.
So sales discrepancy loses some significance when one platform has a lot more potential customers, and when the pricing is also different.

As for CoD, as a franchise, it probably does have the most sales (yearly releases give it that advantage), but it also has a discrepancy between 360/PS3.
I'd say it's meaningful difference when considering that both consoles have roughly the same amount of active users.

Team Fortress 2 (Updated version, again, using Steamworks) and CounterStrike GO on the disc.

Not much need for L4D if you get the 'proper' L4D2 game as most of the L4D maps have been ported to L4D2.

Custom mod maps are iffy. Some custom maps on PC take up a lot more hardware usage than the vanilla maps, and I think they can also use assets from other valve titles.
There'd have to be some sort of quality control to ensure that a custom map doesn't cause the console to combust. =p

After seeing Rage I hope Sony does not waste cash securing exclusive deals with Id with regards to Doom 4. I would rather they continue to invest money in their own studios and continue to make epic exclusives that they have been doing for so long...

Games that only have a cult following like Shenmue aren't really worth a huge investment to secure exclusivity.

Honestly, the games that would be the biggest system sellers are also the ones that would be the most expensive to secure (and thus defeat the purpose of locking them down, at least for the near term). Games like COD or Elder Scrolls would clearly sway many buyers to whoever snapped them up, but I just can't see Sony or MS putting out the crazy amount of money it would take to license them.

In most cases, it's far better to invest in new IPs as exclusives, the way MS did with Gears and Sony did with Uncharted this generation. A new IP means a lower up-front cost, and can strengthen the brand identity of a console without pissing off a segment of that IP's fanbase. Of course, it only works if the game is good...

The list isnt practical and just a list of "wishes" .

Shenmue had dissapointing sales every eps released so far , despite it's deserved cult status , and is one of the most expensive project yet .

Sega certainly will hesitate without a mean to cut cost (such as using game and staff assets from their yakuza series) and either Microsoft and Sony might not feel like wasting their money .

But if they do , well it's christmas then !

I would be happy with sequels to most of those games lol could care less if they were exclusive as long as they were made. KOTOR and Jade are two of the best rpgs ever made, the creations of the once amazing bioware.

i remember those days when i knew anything made by them was 100% guaranteed to be amazing. Granted they really only fucked up DA2 at the moment and they seem to be leaning toward ME1 more than 2 so it seems they learned. either way, ill be getting ME3

Exclusives alone does not define a console.take under consideration online community population,greater return profit for developers and games played by a broader audience than a niche crowd.multi-platform games continue to dominate this generation. many developers are smart to go multi-platform to maximize profit.

Exclusive games? Everyone loses.

If you're a gamer and you like the idea of exclusives............you' re fooling yourself. Exclusivity means not only less money to developers (yes indeed, little do some realize that cutting your sales base to a third is a BAD decision) but less people get to actually enjoy the end product. Also do remember folks, the money the devs get is essential to finance future games. (Although I do feel most games are over financed lately with horrid titles costing millions but fantastic indie games running on a budget of thin air and 5 - dedicated - staff members)

So in the end, screw exclusivity for ANY system because no matter how you try and fool yourself, you're not benefiting in the end. (It's like being the birthday kid at school and eating all the cake yourself.......and then somehow feeling good about how you got all the cake and everyone else thinks you're a douche)

1) Exclusive games can mean better performance/graphics

2) Exclusivity doesn't necessarily mean less money to the developers. Exclusivity often helps games form a personality, allowing them to become more popular than they would have. It's not just a game, it's "Have you played that new Xbox game, bro? It's tight"

3) Plus, no exclusivity means no meaningful differences between the consoles. Then we see saturation. Marketing becomes the only thing that sells one system over another. Marketing becomes the only thing that the companies focus on.

4) Ideally, consoles should have bigger differences in hardware. Yes, PS3 and Xbox are fairly similar, but Blu-ray can allow more content. And with consoles adding things like touchscreens next-gen, we're likely to see some more serious differences next gen. And with those differences, some games will be better suited for one system over another. It wouldn't necessarily be good for that game's/studio's name if they released a half-hearted version on one system, or cut all of the versions to work on all of them.

Keep an open mind before declaring anyone happy with exclusives to be a selfish kid with cake.

To be honest I think Doom has had it's day... maybe sometime it will be revived well but I think it had it's place in gaming history and we have moved on!

Half-Life is one of those games that when the next one is made it should be made WELL across all platforms as it could be a game that pushes gaming forward another notch and up the ante on all the FPS's out there!

I enjoyed KOTOR and would like to see another one, but as has been mentioned above Mass Effect has kind of taken it's place.... but if they time it right sometime next gen they could use the new tech to renew and improve the formula and have a winner!

Oddworld as mentioned above could do with being brought back into the light, as long as it is done correctly.

Shenmue COULD do really well and really add to gaming if it were updated a lot and improved in various ways while staying true to what made the original loved by so many people... but if they dont improve it enough it will only have a niche fanbase of people who miss the originals... if it is done right... then it could be awesome!
