Not going to lie, if this is true, I'm both pretty damn disappointed and pretty damn excited at the same time. [IF TRUE] Crytek pretty much confirmed that they are working on stuff for the NeXbox. [ELSE] I'm still REALLY looking forward to this new IP.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Karooo4513d ago

This means new Xbox next year? I think so :P

Shubhankar4513d ago

I don't think so... maybe an announcement by the end of the year, but that's the farthest it'll go for 2012.

mandf4513d ago (Edited 4513d ago )

Every single electronic product in the past 30 years of business announces a product the year before it releases. Meaning if announced this year it won't be released until the following year. It's called exposure and hype. The next Xbox won't release until 2013 at the earliest possible date. No hoping or praying will change that.

Too the disagreer name a product? I challenge you

MoreRPG4513d ago

it most likely mean that Microsoft will be revealing the next-gen Xbox next year

mandf4513d ago

@ MoreRpg

You could be right. I think it would be a mistake seeing that the 360 is still selling. Unless there is a major drop off in sales it doesn't make sense from a business perspective. Why fracture your user base between 2 systems? That will hurt sales. Developers jump to the next console and don't look back. They have a hard enough time making three games for consoles. Making four just isn't cost effective. The 360 will become a lame duck. The only reason the Ps2 kept selling is because their first party studios kept making games for it. If I was Ms, I would wait for a substantial sales drop then move on. They are making money now. Too come out with a new system means they are going to lose money until they get a good user base for the new system.

EVILDEAD3604513d ago

Sweeet......
Launch game for 720 confirmed..

I'd love to play Ryse, but I absolutely love the fact that Crytek is going to both have way more development time and also next gen assets.

My predition since early in the year is coming to fruition..Xbox 720 announced at E3 2012 and 720 arriving in the fall of 2013.

Life is good

"Every single electronic product in the past 30 years of business announces a product the year before it releases. "

That comment is so full of fail I don't know where to begin.

christian hour4513d ago

@Shubhankar XBOX 360 had a build up at the start of the year using an ARG called mycolony, which led to a televised unveiling full of celebrities, and the console itself was released by the christmas. Build up, Tease, announcement , release, all in 2005.

We're already a year overdue for a new console going off industry trends, but we'll put that down to the economy at the moment. Earliest we'll see a new console in my opinion is xmas 2012, latest will be end of 2013 early 2014. But I'm almost certain they'll be announced at e3, if not then things are looking grim as yet another year will have to go by of consoles holding back advancements in game design, its crazy what some of the new cards are capable of yet nobody's utilizing them on pc because they also have to design their games around consoles to ensure a profit.

The sooner newer consoles come out the better it will be for gamers everywhere, regardless if they're biased to one console over another. But I don't see nex gen consoles having 3 gb gpu's sadly :( 2gb maybe, but i have a feeling the economy will also effecct the graphical leap, we'll be seeing 1gb gpu's in nex gen consoles, would be financially unadvisable to put in a graphics card that as a stand alone costs between 600-800 euro.

Skip_Bayless4513d ago

If they have just recently moved Ryse Nexbox, the game won't come out until late 2013. This doesn't really indicate how early the Nexbox is going to launch. Nexbox is a day 1 purchase for me even at $600.

Challenge accepted. Xbox 360.

The Xbox 360 was officially announced on May 12, 2005. It hit shelves On November 22, 2005. Much less than a year.

Unless you're speaking about non-official hype, but that has clearly already begun.

@mandf - The first iPhone was unveiled by Steve Jobs, then CEO of Apple, on January 9, 2007, and released on June 29, 2007.

milohighclub4513d ago

iPhone 4s was released like 2 weeks after announcement.

Fishy Fingers4513d ago

If that's the case (I'd still take it with a pinch of salt for now) I wonder if it's the hardware or more specifically, a next-gen Kinect that they need/want.

Because lets be honest, the current Kinect just isn't responsive and accurate enough for any real grand AAA expectations.

Micro_Sony4513d ago

No matter what you may think Dance Central 1 and 2 are both AAA.

Also do you have a deveopers kit or are you a deveoper? Kinect can be very responsive depending on how much time and effort the developers outs into it.

The developers for Kun-Fu Live are reprograming the game for Kinect and they said that were amazed by the tech and acurracy.

Tachyon_Nova4513d ago

Ridiculously smart move by Crytek. The benefit that Epic Games's engine business got from their parternship with MS on Gears of War was both obvious and huge. They are obviously trying to reap the same benefit from Xbox 3 for themselves.

Also this is interesting for a number or reasons. 1, it all but proves that the next Xbox will have a Kinect like device. 2, Suggests 2012 release of the next Xbox. 3, shows that Crytek are getting into tablet games as well.

from the beach4513d ago

I like your thinking.

It would be a bit disappointing not to play Ryse on 360 next year, but it would also make for a very tempting launch title on the next gen system.

EVILDEAD3604513d ago

It does NOT suggest a 2012 release of the next Xbox. It suggests a 2012 announcement of the next Xbox and it suggests that Ryse will be a launch game.

Evil

OC_MurphysLaw4513d ago

Agreed. I don't think there is a snow balls chance in hell we see a next xbox in 2012, but I do think we get the announcement of the next box coming in 2013. Ryse will 100% be a launch title. It will be hardcore Kinect to kick off the next box which will all come with Kinect. I actually am now more excited for Ryse as I think it will benefit 100% from going on the next system. I was a bit afraid for Ryse after my time with Rise of Nightmares...this gives me hope for the game now.

EVILDEAD3604513d ago

LOL..I don't think in a million years that Crytek would have resorted to Sega's House of Dead' campy type Rise of Nightmares experience for Ryse.

But the extra development time even in the range of an extra year to two years is definately going to be benificial to the game and to gamers.

We are playing the 3rd Gears 5 years later all on the strength of it's incredible debut on the 360. Ryse could be franchise status if it can have that kind of impact on a revised Kinect.

Mrmagnumman3574513d ago

Good, crytek will get to flex their muscle again. Me and the rest of the modding community had to mod crysis 2 up to pc standards, eventually after adding high res textures, new tod, better shadows, DOF, parrallax occlusion mapping, tessalation and DX 11, crysis 2 looks amazing.

NYC_Gamer4513d ago

the next gen era of kinect should much better spec wise

Ryse was awesome, i have no idea why it wasnt recieved well and why we havnt seen another, Rome conquered so much, you could take the action anywhere, and it looked great when xbox one came out, now would be even better.

Ryse: Son of Rome Deserves a Second Shot

Ryse: Son of Rome was an Xbox One launch title that has been left to collect dust, but Crytek should set aside Crysis and give Ryse another shot.

It was a great game, it had issues but it can only go up from here.

crazyCoconuts616d ago

It was just ok. Looked really good for an Xbox game though

Snookies12616d ago

"for an Xbox game"

Way to subtly throw shade there. It looked amazing compared to any game at the time it was released.

Never played it myself though, wasn't really interested in it personally. Plus it came at a time when I didn't own an Xbox console. But it was at least different than the usual copy/paste games we get. So I hope it gets another chance sometime soon.

Crows90616d ago

It was a crytek game though

1nsomniac616d ago (Edited 616d ago )

It was a stunning game on all basis. One of the standout games for Xbox as a whole. I ended up buying on pc as well… and yes nothing looked better than it in PC at the time either. Nothing just ok about it, definitely needs a sequel.

fr0sty616d ago

@snookies12, don't pretend like the Xbox One didn't struggle with being gimpled by its tiny pool of ESRAM as a frame buffer. It was significantly weaker than the PS4.

crazyCoconuts616d ago

Metacritic 60, user score 6.4. I'm not alone in putting it into the "ok" category...

VenomCarnage89615d ago

@snookies
Haven't played it but at least you know enough to defend Xbox over it. The game did look good, for an Xbox game. That's not some "subtle shade," it's full on reality.
I remember it being nearly the only graphically decent game on the Xbone for like the first two years after launch, and graphics were that games strength

I really enjoyed it. Bought it at launch even.

ManMarmalade616d ago (Edited 616d ago )

The qte's were disappointing though. God of war was doing it back in the ps2 days. As gorgeous as the game was, the gameplay needed to be updated.

annoyedgamer616d ago

I really liked the original Ryse but Crytek doesn't have the funds. The mismanaged their properties and let EA raid them with Crysis for the duration of their relationship. Right now they are working on Crysis 4, I doubt they can spare resources to work on a Ryse sequel.

gamer7804616d ago

It would have to be funded by MS, I really liked Ryse sure it got repetitive but the setting visuals and story were good

moriarty1889616d ago

MS should have funded a sequel to Ryse and Sunset OD. Two good franchises they definitely needed last gen.

annoyedgamer616d ago

MS is too busy trying to become the next EA, Ryse wont be on their list of titles to finance unless it gets a hipster makeover with lootboxes.

darthv72616d ago (Edited 616d ago )

I recently bought it for the steamdeck and have to say... 60fps is a game changer. I really wished MS had gotten a one x patch or series boost mode option but sadly, nope. Other games that definitely deserve a second chance (esp on steamdeck/pc) are quantum break and sunset overdrive. Both deserved 60fps support on one x / series but you have to go to PC for that.

Rumor has it Crytek had plans for a Ryse 2 but due to the low turnout for XB (at the time) it was shelved. They really should give this another shot. i dont care if its multiplat on PS and XB and PC and Switch... just so long as part 2 gets made.

babadivad616d ago

The game is automatically boosted on Series X

darthv72616d ago

sorry... but it's not. It still runs at the same fps the XBO did.

lelo2play616d ago

Game was good enough, not great.
Graphically it was top notch. Still holds well till this day.

Crows90616d ago

It only needed more enemy variety and few more movesets or weapons to use. That would have made the experience tons better.

MadLad616d ago

It was a good game.
Only time I saw quick time events actually make me feel engaged.

This is not what I would call value for money spent. They give you quests in liveservice games to get you "re-engaged" with the monetization schemes or to get you hooked or so you at least spend some extra on skins and loot boxes. Then they dole out paltry points after you have already paid extra for whichever liveservice within a liveservice that you are already paying for. My worry is people can't actually be that stupid to fall for this, can they?

littletad621d ago

Absolutely nothing in this comment makes sense. At all.

anast621d ago (Edited 621d ago )

How does it not make sense? O thy god of reason, shine some evidence upon us. Ryse of Rome, ESO,and AC: Origins are all live service games, between them you can get 275 points. Liveservice games are made to keep people spending. Therefore, Gamepass is a live service and the points are for playing live service games.

It is not my problem that this does not make sense to you, it is absolutely your problem. I mean it is all your problem.

Julion0715621d ago (Edited 621d ago )

Hate Xbox but comments in every Xbox article 😂 without making sense smh
