Par for the course this gen. Japanese devs seem to love announcing a game 20 years ahead of its potential release date.

It'd be a bit insulting to the devs at Kojima Productions to say that if Kojima isn't involved at all, the game will turn out bad.

Of course, an MGS game without him may lack the groundbreaking game concepts that the legend known as Hideo Kojima comes up with in each iteration.

But you can't dismiss his studio like that. Kojima has always been the face of his studio and so no other devs have ever had some spotlight. Even Kojima himself says he wants his younger developers to carry on his torch. He just hasn't found anyone worthy of the position yet lol.

It's clear Kojima wants a less intense position in MGS now and wants to concentrate on developing new original titles. It's sad to see him go away but if Kojima can find the right person who is able to conform with his design and creativity, someone who has that unique Kojima flame, then I wouldn't mind seeing Kojima in positions like Executive Producer in future MGS games.

I knew all that other news about MGS5 being in development was BS. Kojima has already said he is working on some other project, that's enough to get me excited. MGS4 was the perfect ending, i think they should give the series a rest.

Agreed, not every series needs to continue on ad infinitum. The series has been wrapped up nicely and should be treated like a classic film series or volume of literature; it can be recreated, remastered or re-imagined in the future, but the original story should remain finished and complete.

I don't want Kojima to stop making Metal Gear Games. However Kojima should do what normally does. There was nothing wrong with the games he makes. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If he would normally do a different project now and wait for inspiration before he does a Metal Gear Game, then he should do that. If he would normally start on the next Metal Gear on a specific date no matter how feels, then he should do that.

And @Batzi, i am a huge fan of MGS. MGS3 is my favourite game of all time, and i have completed each MGS game at least 3 times. I completed MGS4 8 times. That's how much i love MGS.
However, i know that Hideo Kojima could make another amazing series, and it would be sad if Hideo only concentrated on MGS when he has the potential to make something different and incredible.

I will agree with that. MGS4 wrapped up the series nicely. I also feel like I should add something that people seem to be forgetting. Solid Snake was quite literally at death's door at the end of that game. Whether there will be more MGS games or not, we've seen the last of Snake.

Most probably it will end up being a PS4 game if and only if Sony announces the PS4 at next year's E3/TGS. Even if they don't, MGS games usually take 3 years to be developed so again most probably it might end up being on the next generation consoles.

If its not in development right now than i think its a safe thing to assume that mgs 5 will launch in 2014 along with ps4.

It most likely will be on ps3,xbox720 and wii-u but considering 2-3 years of development, 3 most likely i could see this launching with ps4 and who knows maybe even a timed exclusive but that don't matter

Kojima is MGS if he is not making MGS games they will loose something special so if there is going to be mgs 5 kojima needs to produce/direct it

I think it will be released for next generation consoles. Rising is not even out yet so the earliest I think we can expect MGS5 is late 2013 or 2014. Hopefully it will be multiplat so more people can enjoy this series.

Hideo Kojima only have 1 exclusive game on PS3 atm.I dont want too wait until PS4 is released too play MGS5.I want it on my beautiful PS3.I would love too see what he could do with 3 years of learning tha PS3.And since PS3 developers always helping each other I would love too see what Hideo Kojima can do on his second game.

Tha MGS franchise is tha only reason I brought Socom 2.So thanks too Kojima you is my favorite developer of all time.Naughty Dog and Zipper hold tha next 2 tops.

When asked about the sequel to MGS 4 the series’ creator replied “I think we’ll probably have to make it at some point, but what that will be, we have no idea”. Once again, though, Kojima is downplaying his involvement. “As far as my involvement in the project is concerned, [it] probably won’t be as much as it was with MGS1 – maybe I can do just one stage! For MGS1 I made the maps myself, laid out the enemy routes myself, did everything hands-on – that level I can’t do again.”

But that approach hasn’t worked before as he points out when talking about MGS4. “I intended to take it to a certain point and then hand it off, but that didn’t work, because it’s hard to convey the concept to other people then have them take the reins and carry on and preserve that vision.” His solution then is to not get involved at all. “That’s why it’s easier to have them come up with everything from the start and then take it to the end”.

I first played the original Metal Gear waay back in 1987 on the N.E.S. and then I played the REAL Metal Gear games on a friends imported MSX system , Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 : Solid Snake

Many years after Metal Gear 2 : Solid Snake Hideo Kojima released the now classic Metal Gear Solid on Playstation 1.
With this new 3-D tech Kojima was closer to realizing his true vision for Metal Gear thus the "Solid" title was added to represent full 3-D. ( no kids SOLID does not refer to solid snake).

Metal Gear is like no other video game ever created it is complex , has a deap convoluted storyline has great interesting and crazy characters, genre defining gameplay that inspired everything from splinter cell to just about every other 3rd person stealth game ever made and the Metal Gear Solid games feature the best cutscenes ever made in videogames.

I relished in the continuing story of both Solid Snake and other incredibly deep characters like the Boss over the various Metal Gear games over the years.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was the end all be all of the Metal Gear storyline. MGS4 tied up almost every loose end and explained the convoluted Metal Gear storyline to full success.

Hideo Kojima is the most talented game developer / director living today so I would never question his motives as to why he has decided to make another Metal Gear Solid game.

All I ask is this -- please do not bring Solid Snake back AFTER the events of MGS4 unless the game is set BEFORE Metal Gear Solid 4 or Metal Gear Solid 5 turns out to be a remake of the original 8-bit Metal Gear games.

I would be fine with another Metal Gear Solid as long as its a prequel or possibly an all new current gen remake of the old 8-bit Metal Gear games Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 : Solid Snake.

Im sure that at least 70% or more of todays gamers dont even know that there even was a Metal Gear game waaay back in 1987.

As far as Im concerned as a long time Metal Gear fan Solid Snakes storyline ended with Metal Gear Solid 4.

Hey Kungfue... Metal Gear Solid 1 was released on PC also and remade as the Twin Snakes for the Nintendo Gamecube.
