‘Rainbow Six: Patriots’ Will Change the First Person Shooter Story Formula

"Rainbow 6: Patriots will be dealing with this particularly difficult subject matter and giving the player a pretty enlightening and at the same time disturbing look into domestic terrorists.

Narrative director, Richard Rouse, and creative director, David Sears, talk about how ‘Rainbow 6: Patriots’ will be taking a much different approach to first person shooter narratives."

Hmmm let's see how this turns out.

mittwaffen4537d ago

I want to see a video to prove it.

I was reading about it in the Game informer mag. and I can say that R6 is really trying to take back the multiplayer crown. It might not beat out COD numbers, but It just might be the most refreshing shooter to come out.

Give me a fresh map that's of Calypso Casino's quality and I'm sold :).

All the Past R6's have been great. Just the right balance of tactics and gunplay!

coolbeans4537d ago

So far it just seems like "Press X to Jason" in the first-person perspective. Although we'll have to wait and see (as always), I don't see how domestic terrorism can promise change the fps story formula as we know it.

Hufandpuf4537d ago

It certainly changes the viewpoints of a common shooter. for 1, homegrown terrorism is seldom expressed in the media. This game aims to tackle that subject and at a time that is very present. Also, R6 isn't doing the usual, terrorist infiltration system, they are adding morality to the choices that you do in the story. Also, the bad guys aren't "just terrorists" They are trained militia men who have (in most cases) served in the military. So defeating this kind of threat is subject to a whole new change of tactics, especially if the threat could be anywhere at anytime.

By having even more QTEs than Battlefield 3 (which has ridiculous ammounts of hand-holding already)?

I honestly don't care about all these FPS's any more.
Bulletstorm said that, rage said that, brink said that, hell even bodycount said that and looked how that turned out.
FPS's are overdone and the only thing that will make me interested in them again is if they take a break for a few years and come back mid next gen with noticeable improvements.

Hey Ubi, here's a gun, don't shoot yourself in the foot.

Every industry has these issues

Some companies I’ve worked for were great and some were toxic as hell (UPS when I was a teenager was extremely toxic and I have heard it still is) It all starts at the top. They either hold people accountable , set standards and treat people with respect or the crap rolls downhill.
