From Gameplayer... "The genius of Super Mario Galaxy is that its basic game design solves every problem that's ever existed with a platform or adventure game. Until now, your experience in a game world has always had to make sense in strictly architectural terms. Every corridor and every room has had to fit together like a giant jigsaw puzzle. Sure, levels need to seal you in to be coherent, but it always seems jarring when you can't unlock certain doors. The more realistically games suck us in with environments from the real world, the more acutely we're aware they're fake."

My top 3 are Mario 3, Mario World and Mario 64. Mario Odyssey is also excellent, and I enjoyed Sunshine but didn't care for the Galaxy series.

The Nintendo Entertainment Podcast is here, and it's the host's birthday! But don't worry, they'll talk news and Super Mario Galaxy too!
Haters am cry, right Maestro?
Game of the year indeed.
Well deserved score, indeed GOTY
It is worth purchasing a Wii for just as SM64 was reason enough to purchase a Nintendo 64. I hate platformers. I have a 360 and soon a PS3. I love violent shooters. But SMG owns everything I've played and deserves to be GOTY -- head and shoulders above the rest.
The game definitely is growing on me. At the moment I wouldn't give it game of the year but... maybe after playing more (I've played for 3 hours so far) I will like it more. I wouldn't call it a Mario 64 killer. They are too different. Mario 64 was an addicting adventure platformer. This is a minigame/puzzle platformer. Kudos to Nintendo. I have to say I'm much more addicted to Call of Duty 4 but... that's probably just a personal preference and not because SMG isn't a great game. This does finally validate my Wii purchase.
I do think that Nintendo should remake the ninchuck controller. The analog stick should be angled more towards the palm of your hand (angled with the controller). Now do to the way the controller is shaped... it is at about a 120 degree angle which makes it slightly uncomfortable.
