IGN - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Review

Charles Onyett: Say goodbye to real life.

It's difficult to ever feel completely satisfied with a play session of Skyrim. There's always one more pressing quest, one more unexplored tract of land, one more skill to increase, one more butterfly to catch. It's a mesmerizing game that draws you into an finely crafted fictional space packed with content that consistently surprises. The changes made since Oblivion are many, and result in a more focused and sensible style of play, where the effects of every decision are easily seen. Featuring the same kind of thrilling freedom of choice The Elder Scrolls series is known for along with beautiful visuals and a stirring soundtrack, playing Skyrim is a rare kind of intensely personal, deeply rewarding experience, and one of the best role-playing games yet produced.

You can't spell ignoran...

Oh wait, we're not doing that anymore? But it was so clever.. Not.

jidery4544d ago (Edited 4544d ago )

Overhyped crap. Elder Scrolls Oblivion 4.5, its shocking they can even call this a game, its more or less a patch with even more stupid glitches for players to struggle with for a couple months.

TheRealWar4543d ago

There are trolls like you in Skyrim, although not as stupid.

Armyless4544d ago

Incredible. I am majorly excited!

Grip4543d ago (Edited 4543d ago )

hahahahaha god i love IGN and their humor. they Gave Uncharted 3 a 10 of 10, and Skyrim a 9.5 of 10 hahahahaha... "ÏGN a place full of !diots"

Prcko4544d ago

so uncharted 3 is only 10/10 this year!!!

SDF Repellent4544d ago

Uncarted 3 was rated by a known fanboy by the name of Greg Miller. So that don't count. That is like giving the review in the hand of Darkride or Morganfell, the outcome will be predictable.

papashango4544d ago

I lold. But ya greg miller would be better suited writing for a playstation site. Hes pretty predictable

Ch1d0r14544d ago

Im sure a low key skyrim fanboy site will give it a 10.

TheBossMan4543d ago

Yeah! That's like letting Lens of Truth review the differences between platforms!

jrbeerman114543d ago

i stopped reading greg miller articles when he bashed the 2nd UFC unleashed for being too hard. give me a break, they made it easier than first and too easy if you ask me.

but ya anything ghostbusters and ps3 gives him hard on.

and Prcko for every site that rates uncharted higher than skyrim I can show you another thats the opposite. also the games are so far apart it isnt funny, its why the score system is flawed.

Noticeably_FAT4544d ago

Is it me, or are people flip flopping on how they feel about IGN when it suits them? Kind of hypocritical if you ask me/ Bethesda games are known for their issues at launch, I still ended up pre-ordering this game on the Xbox 360, I just hope it doesn't have the issues New Vegas had.

LightofDarkness4544d ago

Not just you, buddy. All the fan-kids do it. It's just human nature (for emotionally retarded humans).

You see anything that refutes your opinion or way of thinking and you get scared, until you find something else that attempts to back it up in your favour, it which case you utterly ignore the information that contradicts your way of though and wholly embrace the one that supports it, championing it like it was the word of God and that it must be heeded.

Then those guys say something you don't like and they're the most corrupt and evil people in all man-kind. The internet's funny like that.

TheFirstClassic4544d ago

Yeah a game some of these people like gets an 8 when they think it deserves a 9.5, and they freak out. They say you can't spell ignorant without ign, ign are fanboys etc. Then they give a game they like a great score and its like oh what a great review.

jrbeerman114543d ago

ign has many writers and reviewers, some good, some not so much (greg miller being biased is not only example).

not enough people pay attention to the writer, but the site.

its why I always read multiple reviews for sites and authors that I like and relate most to.

i also read details and pay less attention to the score.

I'm Replaying Skyrim (again), and So Should You

Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.

anast14d ago

I tried, but it's a poorly made game that insults its customers.

lucian22914d ago

nah, only mods make it decent, and even then it's bad, and this is after i modded for at least 3 years

Nittdarko13d ago

Funnily enough, I'm about to play it for the first time in VR with 1000 mods to make the game playable, as is the Bethesda way

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave14d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan14d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
