Kotaku: Let’s Compare Modern Warfare 3 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC

Last time a big war game hit store shelves, we ran YouTube user Robbaz' Battlefield 3 comparison video. For this week's release of Modern Warfare 3, there's another, helpful companion reel courtesy yet again of Robbaz. Which version looks best to you, readers?

fluffydelusions4544d ago

PC>360>PS3 like all previous versions.

It's really apparent when they show the sub scene starting at the 1:33 mark. Look at the lines on the building in the center; the one to the right of the player's crosshairs. They're jaggy and move on the 360, wildly flashing on the PS3, and extremely clean on the PC. That PS3 footage looked really bad there. And, I say that as a PC/PS3 owner. If I were to get this game, it would definitely be the PC version.

Letros4544d ago

This is a large benefit to high resolution and AA, no jaggies anywhere, if there is one thing that drives me crazy visually, it's the shimmering effect seen from jagged edges on those buildings.

Anyone remember when, months before Gran Turismo's release and after a week of bashing GT5 for any reason they could possibly come up with, Kotaku went so far as to post obviously faked video of GT5's "loading issues" and then use it to launch another of their "Why GT5 sucks" articles?

And then, when busted on it they didn't retract the article but just left an update saying "Oh. We didn't know it was fake. We don't verify our videos. Who does that?"

Yeah... Video footage from Kotaku. Have fun with that.

I don't play these games, but even the PC version looks pretty 'meh' to me. Is the gameplay really that good that graphics, even from a technical standpoint, get completely thrown aside? I think I have CoD4 that I can pop in and try out, would that give me a good idea of the current CoD games?

Majin-vegeta4544d ago

Yes they all look the same just the newer ones have seem more dead in color than cod4-_-.But all the fun you will have in cod4 is gone in the newer versions.

ProjectVulcan4544d ago (Edited 4544d ago )

PC at high resolution looks clean but pretty unremarkable. All the effects in place to allow the game to run on console at 60FPS, stuff like low polygon counts and flat textures, lo res alpha textures.....none of them have had any effort put into them on the PC platform.

The upside is that you don't need a great PC to run the game maxed.

The downside is if you have a great PC then sit back and see all that power going to waste. Watch as your 2600k and GTX570/6970 etc chew this up to the tune of a MINIMUM framerate of 70FPS+ on max @ 1080p. http://www.pcgameshardware.... 1080p being nearly 3 and a half times the resolution this renders on console!

I really do not like to see zero effort put into PC ports.

Panthers4544d ago

CoD 4 is amazing. The rest are very meh. I would just play that one over the newer ones.

killcycle4544d ago

They all look average, nothing next gen here

DonaldBeck4544d ago (Edited 4544d ago )

yea im a huge ps3 fan but cod looks better on 360 for some reason. the graphics still look like a 2007 game though.

Same as all the other comparisons, the video just shows the minor differences in brightness and contrast between each platform. PC version will obviously look smoother due to higher resolution but you can't really see that in a YouTube video.

TheIneffableBob4544d ago

Do 1080p full screen, the differences are very clear.

Pc - 360 - Ps3 in that order.

Imo IW need to patch the ps3 version of mw3 didnt stop them charging people £89.99 for the hardened edition.

This, its to hard to develop for bull don't wash anymore. Uncharted 3, BF3 just a few of the exsamples of why i know its bull they talk.

There was improvments with the black ops patches so hopes are still held out for the ps3 version imo. But its still a shame IW won't get there act together for the gamers.

End of the day that beyond all this fanboyism crap etc i buy my games for each console. I want the consoles i buy my games on to preform to what they are capable of. To have a company that is blantantly holding back because of an exculsive deal is just out of hand imo.

How hard is it to port a game thats still running on a bloody modified cod2 engine ey -_-. End of the day we are all paying customers and we all deserve better imo.

Thank god this is the end of the Modern Warfare saga maybe the nest game will bring with it a new engine.

Call of Duty Players Disappointed by $80 B.E.A.S.T. Glove Bundle Deal

Recently, players of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone were met with a new bundle featuring the B.E.A.S.T. Glove, inspired by King Kong's armament in the Godzilla x Kong movie. However, the $80 price tag attached to this themed accessory left many Call of Duty fans feeling underwhelmed.

Morons that allow themselves to be milked continuously by this company is the definition of irony.
Spend more $$ and you'll end up In easier lobbies so you win both ways when ya spend that cash

Controversy in the COD community feels like it happens within an alternate timeline. Activision will take the piss with something, there will be a momentary fuss about it, and then they will forget about it and carry on anyway. Repeat this cycle literally every year for the rest of time.

Gridknac8d ago

They call that a crack head! Thats what this is really about, its an addiction. People who dont smoke cigarettes look and laugh at the addicts that spend $8-$10 a pack, but they cant help themselves, they are addicted. That same analogy applies perfectly to the whole MT industry. Only an addict that was not thinking clearly would spend this kind of money on something so frivolous. A round of multiplayer provides the same high a person gets from scratching a lotto ticket, or putting money on a sports bet. MT in general need to really be regulated because you have a generation of kids becoming adults who grew up only knowing the MT era of gaming. Its normal to them and they will in turn teach their kids the same by just being a gaming parent and getting their kids involved with them in gaming. Thats why no matter how ridiculous the headlines keep getting out of the MT industry, it never seems to fade or go away.

I'm so tired of hearing about what they're doing with this game, its never going to change and it's never going to value the consumer over money, furthermore the people who engage so heavily in the microtransactions I guess allegedly are having a blast and can't wait to do it some more this year when the new version of the game drops.

Cheech And Chong Are Coming To Call Of Duty Because Everything Must Be Consumed

The famous comedy duo is the latest example of pop culture becoming one big grey blob

Christopher22d ago

Certain to have some sort of reference to their online store for CBD/THC chews, which is advertising heavily online the last month or two.

Sciurus_vulgaris22d ago

The randomness of the multiplayer characters is one of reason I quit playing COD after briefly returning in 2022. We got Space Marines, rappers, tree monsters etc. all in a series called “ Modern Warfare”.

OtterX22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

I think if there was ever a time for a competitor to rise up and take away some of Call of Duty's thunder, the time would be now. A military shooter that takes itself seriously, not sold out to Fortnitism. Easier said than done, I know... but the time is ripe.

I can't stand this stuff either.

Palitera22d ago

There are tons of MP shooters that make no profit, if you're looking for one of those

fsfsxii22d ago

You guys have been saying this shit since 2009. Fortunately, nobody’s bringing down cod anytime soon, if ever.

crazyCoconuts21d ago

I agree. I really didn't like how the silliness takes away the gritty origins. That and all the crazy effects... dunno. I'm still playing it but I'd love for someone to steal their cheese and cater to grittier players

OtterX21d ago

@fsfsxii It's not so much wanting COD itself to die as it is wanting this silliness to die. Like CrazyCoconuts said, it takes from the grittiness. Many OG COD players want a straightup Military shooter experience, not silly costume time at Carnival.

Profchaos22d ago

is this what the kids want these days a pair of iconic stoners who were big in the 70s and have kind of held on I enjoyed their movies decades ago but I never recall the movie where cheech infiltrates a enemy base while chong snipes for support guess I must of missed that one

Man I'm getting to old for this

Knightofelemia22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

Cheech just looks so wrong in the picture.

Profchaos22d ago

Why just why. cod up in smoke

anast22d ago

They charge too much for a game that is kitsch.

MW3 missed its easiest opportunity to give us some of the best Call of Duty maps ever made

From Bootleg to Black Box, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 made a heartbreaking mistake by not remastering the bizarrely forgotten maps from its namesake.
