Is This Spoiler Modern Warfare 3’s "No Russian" Moment?

THIS POST HAS A SPOILER IN IT. If you want a tiny part of Modern Warfare 3, which officially hits Nov. 8, spoiled, read on. If you don't, this is a post (and comments section) you should skip.

Okay? We all here? Let's dive in.

The above clip was sent to Kotaku, with the tipster writing, "New Modern Warfare 3 Controversy" in the subject line.

Love how the guy has a damage indicator.

Gazondaily4550d ago

The Nuke scene in the first COD was brilliant (it was in-game at least!)

The No Russian level was controversial but still, marked a bold move.

This CGI, heartless piece with little imagination is just dire.

You're sucking the life out of the franchise Activision.

NuclearDuke4550d ago

It seems that children can die in movies without being controversial. It's part of the story. When a video game does the same, I do not like when children die, then it is controversial and sucking life out of a franchise?

Give me a break. You have been mad on every single Modern Warfare 3 article so far Septic, you might want to start getting a life and avoiding the game if you so dearly hate it.

The damage indicator is a major fuck up, whomever released this and approved this, gets himself fired today it seems.

bumnut4550d ago

The first COD was set in WW2 and did not have a nuke scene.

Gazondaily4550d ago (Edited 4550d ago )

Sorry I meant first Modern Warfare game.

@NuclearDuke

I've been hating on every COD article? Stop chatting nonsense- if you look at my comment history I have said time and time again that I loved COD Modern Warfare 1 and 2 and I spent countless hours on them. Learn to read before opening your trap.

Also:

"It seems that children can die in movies without being controversial. It's part of the story. When a video game does the same, I do not like when children die, then it is controversial and sucking life out of a franchise?"

I'm sorry can you not read? Let me spoon feed the point to you seeing as you're clearly struggling:

"The No Russian level was controversial but still, marked a bold move."

"This CGI, heartless piece with little imagination is just dire. " So where did I say it CANNOT be controversial? Clearly I credited the No Russian level for being controversial yet bold and I'm critiquing this for being completely un-inspired.

Reading comprehension- invest some time in learning it. That way you won't look like an idiot when you make knee-jerk reactions to posts you haven't bothered to understand.

Firewound4550d ago

In No Russian you actually shot innocent people fair enough there's a bit of controversy about it, but it was a good story point. This is just portraying how innocent people are caught up in terror attacks can't see how this is more controversial, not when you consider movies have showed worse things.

Knee-jerk reactions are the reason most games don't even bother with these kind of scenes. An heartless for F's sake there virtual people, I kill hundreds of em' online I don't sit there thinking about there virtual families and how there virtual lives will be affected.

If you don't like it don't but it. Activision didn't create this scene IW and Sledgehammer did so any criticism's should be directed at them. Heads are gonna roll after seeing that stupid damage indicator.

JaredH4550d ago (Edited 4550d ago )

I'm not watching the video since I don't like things being spoiled but I don't understand why every COD game after MW2 has to have a controversial level. It's just like after COD4 where every new COD has to have a sniping level now.

It's just making each game more of the same like the majority of people are complaining about.

Blackdeath_6634550d ago

@NuclearDuke
the reason these clips are controversal on console and not in the film industry is that people see gaming for little kids and more often than not that is the case (if i just count the number of kids i come across in cod as oppsed to people who arnt then you can tell). when you go to watch a film they ask you for age proof and theres no way about it while with gaming most kids play the game their older brother bought or they got their parents to buy.

"No russian" sucked. Trust me, Im probably one of the least sensitive people you'll ever come across. "No russian" sucked, the game would have been better w/o it.

TimmyShire4550d ago

Looks to me like they're being controversial for the sake of it. But whatever sells games, right?

floetry1014550d ago

People, especially gamers, love the fear angle. It plays to their sense of patriotism and lack of odds. Hence the reason Call of Duty is so huge in the first place, because it's accessible in that way.

The scene is pretty predictable, but I'm not going to condemn it. Children are casualties of war, regardless of background. It'll touch a nerve with plenty of people for the right reason. To defend, to serve, to protect etc. Universal themes for a big budget game.

Michael Bay in game form, take it or leave it.

theonlylolking4550d ago

It adds to the story. It is showing how no one is safe from Makarov and his men while at the same time trying to get free advertising.

LightSamus4550d ago

Controversial or not, if it gets people and media talking, it's FREE advertising. Not that MW3 will need a great deal of advertising but you can't say no to free publicity.

skyward4550d ago

Agree. Although to be fair, Activision hasn't pushed this scene yet. Suppose they realise people will jump on it at launch though.

Optical_Matrix4550d ago

Controversy for controversies sake. Classy as usual infinity ward

Call of Duty Players Disappointed by $80 B.E.A.S.T. Glove Bundle Deal

Recently, players of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone were met with a new bundle featuring the B.E.A.S.T. Glove, inspired by King Kong's armament in the Godzilla x Kong movie. However, the $80 price tag attached to this themed accessory left many Call of Duty fans feeling underwhelmed.

Morons that allow themselves to be milked continuously by this company is the definition of irony.
Spend more $$ and you'll end up In easier lobbies so you win both ways when ya spend that cash

Controversy in the COD community feels like it happens within an alternate timeline. Activision will take the piss with something, there will be a momentary fuss about it, and then they will forget about it and carry on anyway. Repeat this cycle literally every year for the rest of time.

Gridknac8d ago

They call that a crack head! Thats what this is really about, its an addiction. People who dont smoke cigarettes look and laugh at the addicts that spend $8-$10 a pack, but they cant help themselves, they are addicted. That same analogy applies perfectly to the whole MT industry. Only an addict that was not thinking clearly would spend this kind of money on something so frivolous. A round of multiplayer provides the same high a person gets from scratching a lotto ticket, or putting money on a sports bet. MT in general need to really be regulated because you have a generation of kids becoming adults who grew up only knowing the MT era of gaming. Its normal to them and they will in turn teach their kids the same by just being a gaming parent and getting their kids involved with them in gaming. Thats why no matter how ridiculous the headlines keep getting out of the MT industry, it never seems to fade or go away.

X-236d ago

I'm so tired of hearing about what they're doing with this game, its never going to change and it's never going to value the consumer over money, furthermore the people who engage so heavily in the microtransactions I guess allegedly are having a blast and can't wait to do it some more this year when the new version of the game drops.

Cheech And Chong Are Coming To Call Of Duty Because Everything Must Be Consumed

The famous comedy duo is the latest example of pop culture becoming one big grey blob

Christopher22d ago

Certain to have some sort of reference to their online store for CBD/THC chews, which is advertising heavily online the last month or two.

Sciurus_vulgaris22d ago

The randomness of the multiplayer characters is one of reason I quit playing COD after briefly returning in 2022. We got Space Marines, rappers, tree monsters etc. all in a series called “ Modern Warfare”.

OtterX22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

I think if there was ever a time for a competitor to rise up and take away some of Call of Duty's thunder, the time would be now. A military shooter that takes itself seriously, not sold out to Fortnitism. Easier said than done, I know... but the time is ripe.

I can't stand this stuff either.

Palitera22d ago

There are tons of MP shooters that make no profit, if you're looking for one of those

fsfsxii22d ago

You guys have been saying this shit since 2009. Fortunately, nobody’s bringing down cod anytime soon, if ever.

crazyCoconuts22d ago

I agree. I really didn't like how the silliness takes away the gritty origins. That and all the crazy effects... dunno. I'm still playing it but I'd love for someone to steal their cheese and cater to grittier players

OtterX22d ago

@fsfsxii It's not so much wanting COD itself to die as it is wanting this silliness to die. Like CrazyCoconuts said, it takes from the grittiness. Many OG COD players want a straightup Military shooter experience, not silly costume time at Carnival.

is this what the kids want these days a pair of iconic stoners who were big in the 70s and have kind of held on I enjoyed their movies decades ago but I never recall the movie where cheech infiltrates a enemy base while chong snipes for support guess I must of missed that one

Man I'm getting to old for this

Knightofelemia22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

Cheech just looks so wrong in the picture.

Profchaos22d ago

Why just why. cod up in smoke

anast22d ago

They charge too much for a game that is kitsch.

MW3 missed its easiest opportunity to give us some of the best Call of Duty maps ever made

From Bootleg to Black Box, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 made a heartbreaking mistake by not remastering the bizarrely forgotten maps from its namesake.
