4D Holograms

A team of medical researchers up at the University of Calgary in Alberta has spent the last six years working on a remarkable "4D" hologram system called CAVEman.

Liars... there is nothing 4D about this... still quite impressive

tfur6005d ago

Are you certain that you know what 4D really is?

I would suggest you, and everyone into graphics and gaming, join ACM and then view Siggraph articles on 4D...

In the 3D realm, like this one, 4D represents viewing/navigating through space AND time. Basically EVERY attribute is an expression based object, and not scripted.

In reality, you can use any attribute in the 4th dimension. This is what multi variable calculus is about. These are your hypercubes, folding knots etc...

Remember 4D has nothing to do with colored eye glasses, thats 3D. Its the glasses that allow of the illusion of 3D. Every 3D game you have ever played, its really just 3D, presented in 2D on you screen.

Here is a simple example of 4D, being represented in 3D, with a 2D graphics projection on top:

is the supercomputer behind this? It is a 4D capable after all.

This is sarcasm, btw, for those that can't figure that out for themselves.

I believe there have been examples of 4D on PS3 already. Not in any games yet released, but remember the 4th dimension is time, so any textures or polygonal forms can be procedurally generated as a function of time. There were some examples I saw (some decaying bathroom scenes - unscripted, procedurally generated) but I can't remember if they were running on PC or PS3. If they weren't running on PS3 I think it was implied that they could or something to that effect.

edit: tfur knows what he/she's talking about.

Capt CHAOS6005d ago

Because that must be so much better than anything that's 4D in comparison to 3D.
<end sarcasm>

tfur6005d ago

I have no idea about what this system is running... but after seeing a few silly posts...

Yes, the SPU's on the cell processor do perform matrix calculations incredibly well, as that is basically what they are designed to do...

Remember seeing this in the news a few weeks ago, very impressive. GO U OF C!

EKWB reportedly plagued with financial disarray many gaming pc's left without parts

EK Cooling allegedly has slipped itself into a hot soup of seemingly endless financial woes, where it has not paid its staff, suppliers, and contractors for many months as the company is facing liquidity problems and a surplus of inventory left unsold, stuck in the warehouse for a more extended period. Gamers Nexus investigated these claims made by former and current personnel, where he found trails of unpaid bills lasting as long as three to four months and unpaid raises that accumulated for almost a year.

EK Water Blocks has two entities—a Slovenian-based headquarters and a US-based subsidiary, EK Cooling Solutions. Steve narrated the series of events in detail, stating that the company was reportedly irresponsible and negligent regarding payment. Consequently, partners and employees are forced to share the burden of alleged mismanagement. It all begins with its extensive range of products, leading to a surplus of goods. EK has over 230 water blocks, 40 liquid cooling kits, 85 reservoirs, 40 pumps, 73 radiators, and 212 miscellaneous accessories.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.

This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.

SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

Jayz2cents a supporter of there products also has issues

As someone that has built a watercooling rig. EK is big, but there's so many numerous watercooling part companies out there. EK's stuff isn't exactly amazing quality for the price compared to others either, it's just ok. Much like Corsair. The impact would be negligible long term. For perspective the majority of my parts are XSPC, at most I use EK for my gpu waterblocks and fittings. Both easily replaceable.

Make your next GPU upgrade AMD as these latest-gen Radeon cards receive a special promotion

AMD has long been the best value option if you're looking for a new GPU. Now even their latest Radeon RX 7000 series is getting cheaper.

Father__Merrin2d ago

Best for the money is the Arc cards

just_looken1d 23h ago

In the past yes but last gen amd has gotten cheaper and there new cards are on the horizon making 6k even cheaper.

The arc cards are no longer made by intel but asus/asrock has some the next line battlemage is coming out prices tbd.

Do to the longer software development its always best to go amd over intel if its not to much more money even though intel is a strong gpu i own 2/4 card versions.
