Matt Coleman: We're taking a stroll back through the annals of RPG history to analyze where the genre has come from and where it's going. We're looking at that evolution through the lens of gameplay developments, seminal titles and some underrated games that set the stage for the RPGs of today. We couldn't get to each and every title, but this should cover a sizable cross-section of the history of RPGs.
A gorgeous real-world Miraidon from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has been created in Japan by the Toyota Engineering Society.
JDR thinks the gaming industry needs more licensed IPs. It's basically a cry for Firefly: The Game, and why not? JDR delves deeper into why more isn't adapted for the interactive screen.
Nah. Video games are their own thing they wouldn't be improved by leeching off Hollywood more.
Read the article and it gives no mention of the many problems prevalent with licensed IPs, such as games and dlc being delisted when their licenses expire, Adult Swim games being the most recent example.
Only if they're good, if its going to be a 2D sprite art game, you can get away with a small team and small budget. But if you're going to make it a 3D polygonal game, you're going to need a large team with a large budget, and often times these licensed games are quickly pushed out the door, unpolished, rough, boring, bland, snorefest at best, and downright broken at worst.
We have an Indiana Jones and James Bond game currently being developed by two veteran teams with I assume fairly sizeable budgets. Let's hope they turn out to be worthwhile.
A new Mad Max game to coincide with the upcoming film would have been awesome. I loved the first game, I'm guessing it didn't sell too well as they never bothered following it up.

Here's a break down of rpg's, They used to be awesome, some of the best one's are still from the NES/SNES era. But since then noobs and serpent share holders have tarnished the genre with their greed. Media outlets like IGN and Gametrailers scream for innovations, and in the process have confused devs on what they should really be doing. Change the old and make new or stick with the old and get crap reviews. Either way we are past the point of no return, though the newer Action Rpg's are good, but they always have been since Phantasy Star Online, Barbarian on the Dreamcast, Elder Scrolls. Now it seems all action games have some type of rpg elements. What I yearn for is a deep jrpg, like Dragon Warrior 4, but with more story and more content. FFX was the best FF imho, I wish they would pump out more gems like those.
The best RPG is oblivion plain and simple.
Well not so plain.
However that title will soon go to its son.
Zelda is an action-adventure. Allthough the systems are similar in RPG's and action-adventures, there are differences which are fairly evident only if you play them.
In my opinion, a lot of what people think are RPG elements being added into modern games (the writer mentioned Batman) can be equally attributed to action-adventure. Things such as leveling, upgrades and the like aren't exclusively linked with RPG's.
One thing is sure, FFVII is the KING of JRPG's (and for millions of ppl the best game ever) like it or not even with all the haters that bashing it with every chance or random f@gs here and there that keep repeating of how overrated is facts is there isn't 1 article that dont use Cloud's image to draw ppl, every1 know that FFVII sell more than anything, it's the JRPG with the most fans, with the best sales, with the best ratings, with the most dl's on PSN No1 from the moment they add it as PS1 classic, and most of all the game that make the genre known and loved all over the world, and if there is even one person that can say that FF & JRPG made the crazy sales they did now out of JPN before FFVII then he obviously kidding his self.
