Which aspect is more important in a game... Gameplay, graphics, or Online?

GamerFitNation's Gregory Laporte writes about which aspect in gaming is more important. "Sitting down late one night talking to one of my buddies about the recently released Gears of War 3. We got into a discussion about the game and talked about how the storyline was great, the graphics were awesome, and how the online and gameplay were well improved. We both had our preferences for what we liked better however, there were a few aspects that we brought up that I wanted to discuss with all of you here on GamerFitNation."

Oh this is an easy question game play.

What's the point of a pretty game that plays awful?
Or an online game you can't control?

waltyftm4564d ago

Well said, There has been too many pretty games this Gen that play like crap.

darthv724564d ago

its gameplay. More so than even online because not everyone plays online just as not everyone has the best tv to play the game on.

But no matter what type of gamer you are or what kind of set you use...gameplay is the only thing that is the same across the board.

Without that then you really lose the substance in what makes games worth playing.

Tonester9254564d ago

Remember Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo? Those systems were all about gameplay. Now because consoles are always boasting about how much more power they have over one another, everyone wants to see the output of graphics. How real and flashy can they make it look. In contrast I noticed that most games that are made to look great, play great because of their skilled development team.

Oh! And they really tease the games graphics by how the cutscenes look. Then the games dont even look like that when it releases lol

BeaArthur4564d ago

Agreed, if the gameplay is bad then nothing else matters.

joydestroy4564d ago

yep, couldn't agree more.
however, for me to give it a go, it needs to have graphics AND solid gameplay. i'll give up multiplayer IF the singleplayer is lengthy, like 12hrs plus minimum. otherwise, if i do buy it, i realize what a terrible mistake i've made.

the game also needs to have a good amount of content. this means vastly varied missions, lots of weapons, upgrades, etc.

BldyShdw4564d ago

I don't have the time to put into online multiplayer anymore. So gameplay/graphics are way more important to me than online.

Tanir4564d ago

exactly how i feel, only multiplayer i have the time for is dark souls because its intergrated

RyuCloudStrife4564d ago

Gameplay you're right! That's why CoD reigns supreme

Drake1174564d ago

your prob going to get tons of dislikes cuz hating cod is the cool thing to do on this site but your very right. CoD might not have good graphics but its tight controls and great pacing have made it the most popular game in todays market.

dark-hollow4564d ago

This is kind of tricky.
graphics and online are part of the "experience".
Great graphics add to the immersion and make games more appealing and fun.

Sure, between the three, gameplay is tue most important, but that doesn't mean that graphics arent important.

Bioshock, red dead redemption are examples of how graphics and detailed environment makes the experience more enjoyable.

_Aarix_4561d ago

that would be called "atmosphere"

ReservoirDog3164564d ago

Yup, shouldn't even be a question.

I would peg story before gameplay though.

Gameplay. Look a Goldeneye it did not age well and is better than half the shooters this gen.

bronxsta4564d ago

gamplay all the way.

of course good graphics dont hurt

personally i don't like online and hate that the current trend seems to be shoehorning in multiplayer modes at the expense of singleplayer. We need more split-screen and longer campaigns

zeal0us4564d ago

Its all depends on the type of game but regardless gameplay would be apart of it, seeing as you it can't be online without gameplay some kind of role. Would play a online multiplayer if the gameplay was horrible?

LondonMediaOS4564d ago (Edited 4564d ago )

Gameplay is the most important aspect of a game, when you have a good engine with flexible mechanics at the helm honestly the rest falls into place.

Players claim Fortnite ruined Call of Duty by letting in more corporate greed

Do you remember what gaming was like before Fortnite entered the gaming space? One of the biggest arguments was about loot boxes. Now we have conversations about crossovers, battle passes, and community outreach.

Idk. Loot boxes did disappear and battle passes and in game purchases are all cosmetic. We get free weapons and maps post launch, any gameplay affecting content. I could care less about all the cosmetics.
I absolutely hated the days where weapons were locked behind a less than 1% chance lootbox pull where it'd take 5+ hours to have enough tokens to do a single pull and lazy remastered/remake maps cost you $15 each wave or $50 for the season pass that you didn't know what you'd get and these maps were only available to those that bought it so you get a smaller pool of players match with.

Tacoboto1d 2h ago

The "good ole days" are actually what drove me away from COD and Halo 3/Reach. Halo 4 becoming a COD-like drove me away from that only a week or so after it launched and I beat its campaign.

It sucked way back then, going a month or two without playing online-shooter-of-the-moment, and then needing to buy a $15 map pack to play with the majority of the population or your favorite playlist. The "community" rejecting Spartan Points in MCC killed that game's support, too. No revenue = no support, plain and simple.

Cacabunga17h ago

That headline could easily be something Spencer could have said 😅 I had to check if it was really an opinion piece

KyRo17h ago

As times gone on, the COD battle pass has got ALOT worse so they can push people to buy the more premium battle pass which itself is a huge rip off and nearly half the price of the base game.

The cosmetics can be fine but they've taken it to far to the point of no return. Why make a military themed game then have rabbits, dinosaurs, cats, rats & z list rappers as skins? You wouldn't add a Lamborghini to a fantasy RPG to replace a horse and you would never see Mario have limb dismemberment because they know what they are. COD is having identity crisis but kids and streamer but then all

franwex1d 3h ago (Edited 1d 3h ago )

Call of duty can simply not copy the bad aspects of Fortnite? Or is that too out of this world? Like COD, a realistic shooter-just HAD to have Nicki Minaj running around? Or super heroes?

Inverno1d 1h ago (Edited 1d 1h ago )

Exactly! Trends don't all need to be followed. Plus where Fortnite got somewhat better with it's monetization, Acti got worse. Or at least Fortnite has lended itself more to the wacky stuff, and has put more effort and quality into that stuff.

jjb19811d 1h ago

I prefer the battle passes with free maps than the $50 season pass that divided the community. I definitely feel that Fortnite had some influence on CoD having loot boxes with Blackout being introduced in 2018 with Black Ops 4.

PRIMORDUS1d 1h ago (Edited 1d 1h ago )

Actually Fortnite bullshit ruined Unreal Tournament. Epic are sellouts and I will never have that shitty store on my PC, fuck them and that shit bag Tim Sweeney. At least the community keeps the games alive, I still play UT2004.

StoneTitan13h ago

I mean cant really blame them for supporting the game that made them the most money and the most people player...ever?

Psychonaut851d 1h ago

Call of Duty ruined Call of Duty. They needed no outside assistance.

Ra30306h ago

100% correct! The makers of Call of Duty ran out of ideas long, long ago so they take ideas from other games like Ghost Recon, Fortnite and any other FPS game hat had success hell CoD remasters maps that they've remastered several times already then charge you again for it. Call of Duty is simply a cut, copy and paste and then put the $70 price on it every year. Activision and now Microsoft has been essentially remastering Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare every year since it was released in 2007 its to the point it's worse than the sports game like the Madden, NBA and others yearly sports franchises.
@Psychonaut85 is spot on "Call of Duty ruined Call of Duty. They needed no outside assistance"!
