IGN: Batman Arkham City Review

Batman: Arkham City isn't perfect, but listing the little things I didn't like gets in the way of all the stuff I adored. The voice acting, the challenges, the amazing opening, the unbelievable ending and the feeling of being the Dark Knight -- these are the things that standout looking back. I've beaten this thing twice and still want to call in sick and chase Riddler Trophies.

Batman: Arkham City isn't just better than Batman: Arkham Asylum, it's better than most games on the market.

GrieverSoul4571d ago

Seems to me that RockSteady pulled it off, but I want to judge this game by myself.

Also, people should stay away from certain reviews. Some spoilers and comments are ruining some of the games best moments.

LOGICWINS4571d ago

The Gamespot review is def a spoiler.

Rynx4571d ago

This game is a must buy for me. Although I can't help but feel conflicted. This iteration is OD'd with DLC (skins, challenge maps) and one can almost be certain that there's going to be a 'Game of the Year' edition including all of said DLC.

I feel like the more sensible thing to do is just wait a year later 'till the inevidable re-release drops that way I can enjoy the game in full with everything it had to offer.

I never waited for such an anticipated game on my list before. I wonder which option would put me at a loss. Just buying the game day 1 and buying up all the DLC as it comes? Or buying the game day 1, selling it after I beat it, then using that money to buy the GOTY edition when that comes out?

LOGICWINS4571d ago (Edited 4571d ago )

YUP, getting the game of the year edition for half the price as well. If people want to pay $60 and THEN pay $20-$30 on extra DLC, then thats their business.

factory4571d ago

In my opinion, The IGN review is a worthless read. It is poorly written and seems like it was rushed. The score is in line with most other early reviews but the text of the review didn't really tell me anything I couldn't gather in any of the previews. I can't wait to play the game but that review did nothing to amp me up for the experience.

LarVanian4571d ago

Great score! I can't wait to get this bad boy next week.

Quagmire4571d ago

I wonder how this will compare to The Dark Knight Rises when it comes out.

Cloudberry4571d ago

.
Warner Bros should be pumped by now.

Both games & movie should be great, in my opinion.

Ezio20484571d ago

well i am really happy for Arkham City, but now my hopes are for Uncharted 3 to get a 10!!!!

LOGICWINS4571d ago

Uncharted 3? Whats that got to do with this?

MidnytRain4571d ago

What's the matter with you? It's probably the other game he's looking forward to.

MariaHelFutura4571d ago

Who f**king cares? U3 is gonna be outstanding 10 or not.

TheFallenAngel4571d ago (Edited 4571d ago )

Great score GOTY contender.

@disagrees ok not a GOTY contender and terrible score.

LOGICWINS4571d ago (Edited 4571d ago )

Your getting disagrees because your comment is sheepish. You base what you think GOTY is based on OTHER peoples opinions. Why not play the game first and then decide if its your game of the year? GTA4 got plenty of GOTY awards and 10s...and for many gamers out there, it was the biggest disappointment of this generation.

I still don't get the constant "OMG dis gunna be GOTY" mantra on N4G. Why can't you just hope for it to be an enjoyable game?

TheFallenAngel4571d ago (Edited 4571d ago )

Key word is *contender* I didn't say omg this is GOTY.

Whatever you say dude. Im not going to sit here and argue for something like this....

LOGICWINS4571d ago (Edited 4571d ago )

Buddy, even saying its a contender doesn't make any sense. Your still basing that off OTHER peoples opinions. There are thousands of games that come out every year from the PC, PS3, 360, Wii, Mobile, DS etc.

Yet you let OTHERS tell you what the "contenders" should be based off their reviews? Same sheepish concept still applies.

"I didn't say omg this is GOTY"

Clearly that was a hyperbole to make a point. And that was in reference to N4G in general because I've seen people say that a game will be "GOTY" before they've even played it.

EDIT: FallenAngel, you started the argument when you replied to me. My reply to you was simply to let you know why you got disagrees since it seemed like it concerned you judging from your sarcasm.

"ok not a GOTY contender and terrible score."

Disccordia4571d ago

Hey Logic, what's your problem with this game? I seem to remember you having this argument the other day over the exact same thing. How about you save your "logic" for trolls rather than bashing a harmless comment like this?

Finger-Eater4571d ago

You know logic, a day or two ago you seemed like a pretty sour ass on the game informer review. But now I see what you mean. It is pretty annoying seeing people copy and paste "GOTY" for every single hyped up game. I didn't notice it until now and its just plain stupid. A good game is good wether its GOTY or not, its annoying seeing these people just say GOTY to prove it s a good games when "GOTY" awards dont make a games better. Its like a developer says a game is there biggest game yet, and then some random sheep goes and comments "GOTY", I mean like WTF, you cant just say a game is the best game out of all games released this year for some quote or review when you havent played it yet (Not saying Arkham city is bad) its just stupid like you said to say game as GOTY from some review, and whats funny is some people go around to multiple articles and reviews and say GOTY to different games, its like their mindless robots that say "GOTY" to every positive looked game, for what agrees? This whole "GOTY" deal is silly. Wish people would see it like we are seeing it.

The Arkham games are largely excellent, a shame they are being followed up by that god awful looking suicide squad game.

RaidenBlack185d ago

All 4 Arkham games are just amazing...
With the Gotham Knights turning out sub par, hope the Suicide Squad fails as well... So that both Rocksteady and WB Montreal goes back to creating good single player DC games ...
A batman beyond game maybe?

anal_vegan_moans185d ago

Having the game fail would make it harder for them to get funding for their next game, please don't wish this on them. They already delayed the game a whole year after backlash, so we still have to wait and see how it will turn out.

GhostScholar185d ago

I think asylum and origins were great. City was good. Knight was horrible.

Ezio2048186d ago

You can't expect a game to match 96-94 meta apple for apple. Different era and different gen. No need to diminish either game's achievement. Arkham City and Spiderman 2 are both amazing sequels that improved upon their already incredible first parts.

Tacoboto185d ago

To back that up, there are major websites that adjusted their review scales.

IGN used to have a 100 point system; now it's a 10 point system. I remember GameSpot back in 2004 was razed for giving Halo 2 a 9.4 when IGN gave it like a 9.7 or 9.8

darthv72185d ago

Arkham Asylum was great, but when City came out... wow what a total overhaul that was. Nothing has had that type of night/day difference in scope and scale since.

SM2 is looking to be a great game in itself. Definitely an upgrade over the previous entries. Just from the opening battle with sandman, it gives me god of war 2 vibes with how that one opened with the battle with colossus of rhodes. That is still one of my favorite sequels of all time.

Zeke68185d ago

Thanks for the spoiler how the game starts loser...

darthv72185d ago

Zeke... you've had plenty of time to play god of war 2.

GaboonViper186d ago

And right on cue, here comes the downplaying of Insomniacs masterpiece, not gonna work, this game is gonna be beast in success.

BehindTheRows185d ago

From the same folks who gave it a 10/10 no less.

Aloymetal185d ago

'' here comes the downplaying of Insomniacs masterpiece''
You know that train is never late.

I got 80% trophy completion on Ragnarok but left a few of the battles. Will come back to it one day.

Miraak82 293d ago

Dragon Quest 11 is my top pick

RpgSama292d ago

Dragon Quest XI was such an AMAZING game, I had a blast from the very beginning all the way to the very end, it actually got better the more you played, full of surprises as well.

Another game that I enjoyed from the very beginning all the way to the end of the 100% completion was Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Really, really, really fun game with a great heartfelt story.

badz149293d ago (Edited 293d ago )

Where is Horizon Zero Dawn?? where is Ghost of Tsushima?? I just got my Platinum on HZD and is now trying to finish the Frozen Wild expansion. so much care and love went into that game and it really shows. I especially adore the lore and have sunk many hours listening to the logs and reading journals. the back story is great and the gameplay is awesome. can't wait to replay on the hardest difficulty on NG+. next in my list would be to finish GoTsushima

Tacoboto293d ago

Ghost was fantastic especially after Iki Island and the PS5 upgrade. 100%'d that, Horizon Forbidden West (not ZD), GoW (not yet Ragnarok), Spider-Man, and R&C: Rift Apart.

Each one absolutely worth it.

Aloymetal293d ago (Edited 293d ago )

100% I would like to add to you list RDR2, amazing as well and the perks from getting the Legend Of The East outfit is awesome.
Sekiro as well, have to play twice to get it but it's worth it!

Demetrius293d ago

I agree I'm on my 2nd playthroughs of both horizon forbidden West(zero dawn I played also) ghost of Tsushima except I'm replaying it on PS5 this time, the iki island expansion is amazing

ClayRules2012293d ago

Yeah, GoT was already an AMAZING game on PS4, but playing it on PS5, along with that expansion, just even better.

Elda292d ago

I just started my copy of GOW:R, enjoying it so far.

DefenderOfDoom2292d ago (Edited 292d ago )

Okay the title of article should be top 10 , 3rd person games to complete 100 percent. Nine 3rd person games and 1 racing game on this list .
