The N64 Turned 15 This Week, What Are Some of Your Fondest Memories

TGE:
The N64 15 turned this week, and as a system that most gamers above the age of 20 had as a kid, there are many fond memories. Whether it was the incredibly dumb founding tiger claw controller, or the incredible games, such as Super Mario 64 and Goldeneye, chances are if you owned one of these systems you experienced at least one or two seminal gaming moments. With that, we ask you, what are some of your fondest memories with the N64?

Fond Memory Number 1: Mario 64....Speechless

Fond Memory Number 2: Blast Corps.

Fond Memory Number 3: Inserting Memory Upgrade.

Please tell me you played OoT! D:

I've often wondered if Rare or Nintendo own the IP for Blast Corps... I assume it's Ninty, but either way I can't believe there was never a sequel. One of my all-time favourite games.

I agree with gogospeedracer, the first time I started playing Mario 64, my gaming world changed.

Zelda OoT is a stand out moment (until the water temple!! :) )

Having friends round for Mario Kart and Goldeneye sessions was great (although I sucked with the N64 controller playing Goldeneye)

There was a lot of good stuff on the N64, it was a great console.

Mario, mario kart, and majora's mask, ahhhh, those were the days.

Goldeneye, OoT and Majora's Mask

Gaming just isn't the same today as it once was.. Good memories.

DlocDaBudSmoka4583d ago

its because you got older. as a minor with no responsibilities gaming was fun. pure and simple. now as an adult, got things that need taking care of before a new game or system is released.

kikizoo4583d ago

Exactly dloc, today gaming is better in every way, quantity, quality, variety (i loved my 64, but it was a painfull experience with months without a single good game to play, only a few quality ones, even less than dreamcast, at the end of their lifes)

Maybe it is time to just let Goldeneye go. People keep e-begging for this game and it came back in various iterations; remastered and original and in the end it was just meh. The game was a product of its time like Perfect Dark and Timesplitters.

Father__Merrin39d ago

It's from a bygone era that was good at the time but is pants now. Same with turok.

NotoriousWhiz39d ago

Whoa whoa whoa. Turok still holds up great.

YourMommySpoils39d ago

Isn't that like considering every other game too.

P_Bomb39d ago

When in doubt, port it out.

jznrpg39d ago

The game was a lot of fun for its time but damn that was a long time ago.

anast39d ago

There are better shooters now and better worlds.

If they ever did I hope they would add onto it, there's so much you could do with Princess Peach's castle alone

roadkillers70d ago

Or just make the Mario 128... the cancelled sequel that sounded amazing (or was it just an amazing tale).

fr0sty69d ago

Funny that after all these years, we still use 64 bit CPUs, so it wouldn't make sense to call it that.

fr0sty69d ago

Yeah, a straight remake doesn't sound good to me. Same formula, but different game.

Number1TailzFan71d ago

Each level is pretty small today in the original game, I don't like huge levels but I think they could be at least 2x bigger, or close to it and more of them, with more things to do.

They could do a mix of having open levels and more linear ones like in 3D World or Land, I doubt they will do that but it would make a change.

Neonridr70d ago

I mean Odyssey's levels weren't massive, but requiring you to do different things in each world is what made the levels feel bigger than they were.

ZeekQuattro70d ago

I'd prefer a Oydessey 2 or Galaxy 3. Besides the DS
game was a Mario 64 remake complete with more playable characters, stages, bosses and muti player content.

Cacabunga70d ago (Edited 70d ago )

I did not like Odyssey i found the idea of ot lame.. i find it boring to just look for moons instead of exploring and enjoying the levels. Let’s not talk about the extremely repetitive and ridiculously easy bosses. Level design is so meh most of the time. Galaxy 2 is a far better game so Galaxy 3 anytime!!!

TiredGamer69d ago

Agreed. I enjoyed Odyssey for a while, but it quickly became very formulaic where each level felt like a checklist of things to do with WAY too many moons to find. The Galaxy series were the best, as they took some of what made 64 great and juiced it up perfectly.

Lolly70d ago

Yes! Let's release an almost 30 year old game to kick off the next generation for Nintendo...
I'm over re-releases...FEED ME NEW MARIO!
