Which console really has the most exclusives in 2011?

Taking a look at the game industry from an exclusive standpoint we determine and evaluate this year's lineup for two of the most revered consoles to hit the market. Jokes aside, which one really has the most exclusives this year?

I like that they layed all the cards on the table. Sometimes people want to way the merit of an exclusive. They didn't care the game, just as long as it was only on that system, so for example (Mass Effect complete PS3 version, Bastion, or any DLC exclusitivity wasn't weighed in. They didn't even add Dead Space Extraction or Hous of the Dead since those are just HD version of current gen Wii games. Last gen remasters are included.)

First off, I have both consoles. So, I can care less who has the most exclusives. None the less, I just finished playing Radiant Silvergun on my Xbox 360. Second, I noticed Tomb Raider Trilogy. I've owned all Three Tomb Raiders for my Xbox 360 for years now.

On the flip side, I've purchased a ton of PSone games off the PSN. Most of them aren't available on XBLA. This is just a bunch of FanBoy crap. Most people don't have enough money to buy every exclusive anyway.

Jared, the answer to your question about why the PS3's greater number of exclusives has not translated into superior sales I think lies in the fact that there are many factors that impact sales numbers other than the amount of exclusives.

For example, the price differential between the PS3 and Xbox 360 this generation has played a large role in why the PS3 hasn't outstripped the Xbox 360 in sales. The Xbox 360 also had a one year head start in sales.

Another factor may have been the quality of the initial PS3 games compared to their Xbox 360 counterparts. Progamming for the PS3 was more difficult for developers to learn, which resulted in game quality issues with the first round of PS3 games (the multi-platform ones -- and Lair). I'm sure there are more factors that could be listed.

In fact exclusives may well be driving sales but could be masked by other factors that are detracting from sales, e.g., the price differential I mentioned before.

Exclusives are games. Extra games. Gamers like games, more games. It being exclusive can be used as a beating stick but they are extra games to play and from what i understand...we are gamers not accountants. Im in this for me and i like games more than sales figures as i get nothing from those sales figures. It's been 3 years since the last MarioKart. It's ok to make some tracks in ModNation in the meantime. MarioKart will always be there, as will DonkeyKong (which is about as similar to LBP as the proverbial apple to an orange). Heck, I'd still recommend 2010's Alan Wake and Mass Effect 2 in 2011 despite the PS3's exclusive lineup. If a game's worth checking out, it's worth checking out.

The logic about which game is worth getting is flawed. You might like Gears of War 3 and may be the best game for you, but for other people Sesame Street is their thing. For them the game worth getting is Sesame Street, not Gears of War.

Everybody has their tastes, so you cannot undermine the games for their quality and/or worthiness since that is relative to the people who likes them. That is why having the quantity of exclusives for each console is a measurable unit to prove which console have the most options available for any type of gamer.

im now a ps3 only gamer and i can honestly say i miss nothing on the xbox. i had forza 3 and gears and thats pretty much all i cared about but i recently sold my xbox with 6 games including gears 1&2 and forza 3 to fund my ps3 games. I got white knight, preordered uncharted and got the bleach game. and there are more ps3 games that i want like no more heroes and disgaea 4......but there is nothing on the xbox that makes me jealous for real.....

I say none as the answer to your question. Halo 1 was the best halo game ever made while 2 and 3 were just lolly-gagging story drags. Online did not appeal to me as I was too engaged with BF2MC becoming a 3 star General. I have never played Bioshock. Haven't touched Castle Crashers or Braid. I also have not played any other CoD game since CoD4MW. I now own a PC. I played L4D2 on PC and loved the game, especially with the amount of mods for it now. But playing L4D2 without those mods makes the game boring for me.

I used to only play NFS racers but now MotorStorm has changed that for me completely. I am sorry but for both Forza and Gran Turismo I find those games very boring. Yes I know they are SIMULATORS but MotorStorm seems to have me on edge ALL the time. Burnout was a fun game while it lasted, but it became to much of a "brawler" for me to continue playing it.

Then the final one. Out of ALL the shooters combined there is only 1 Title that I keep coming back to. No matter what it turns out to be, through thick and through thin. I will always buy it brand new, in its case, still in shrink wrap, on day: one, hour: Zero, minute: Zero, and second: one. 00:00:01.00 hours. What is that game? Only the most "complicated tactical mess" as described by complete newbies. A game that REQUIRES team work. The only game that has "Captive" as a mode. The one that truly makes you jump up and SHOUT when you finally take out a tough enemy. One that can make you laugh so hard you don't even care about dying, even when your friend goes down right next to you. The one game that can get you completely invigorated within a split second because you just tripped over an enemy PMN Mine, for which the colors of it are always Blue on top and Red on bottom.

What game is that? I ask the audience for this answer. Starts with an S and ends with an M. Can't get any more obvious than that.

S.O.C.O.M? lol To each his own, I respect your opinion. But your bit about the other Halos is simply ignorant. You not playing Bioshock is a loss for you as a gamer. Alan Wake? Another loss for you as a gamer. If all the titles you love are on the PS3 only I'd say you are secluded when it comes to games or have a limited taste. Not just JRPG's either. I played through FF7 only half way but when I played Legend of the Dragoon I simply loved it all the way through. I played through all four discs of the .hack games. I played Diablo 2 until I got my account banned for the drm crap... (Couldn't find my old original D2 disc.) When I had a PC I was playing Sim City 3000 and Roller Coaster Tycoon. I also played the first Sims game but I got bored of it really fast.

I started playing the free PC games like Aliance of Valiant Arms and Gunz online. As well as Dungeon Fighter Online.

When it comes to fighters I played Mortal Kombat 1, 2, 3, 3U, and 64. Skipped a few and then stopped after Armageddon. I ended up loving Tekken when I played Tekken 5 DR Online. Now it is BlazBlue and I play as Bang Shishigami. I never liked the Street Fighter series because it was too fast paced. You can say the same about BlazBlue but I only like playing as Bang. Simple move set and the ability to dash in mid air, TWICE.

Bioshock did not intrigue me much. I was too busy playing Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls. Now I own Fallout New Vegas on PC. I love Portal. And I even bought F1 2010. But I miss my PS3 and MotorStorm the most. I haven't had a PS3 since 2008.

Socom is the number one game I will always play. I missed Socom 4 though. But I still have all three on the PSP. I didn't like tactical strike.

When it comes to those nice little click and play adventure games like Alan wake. MYST comes to mind. First game I wanted to kick the shit out of. Then it was Indigo Prophecy. I missed Heavy Rain. I own it but my friend currently holds it for me. He beat the game btw...

Uncharted reminded me of Tomb Raider. And I am simply itching to play through Uncharted 2 and 3.

As for the Halo series. 1 will only EVER be the game I liked out of all Halo games. Sorry but the story pissed me off in 2. Especially when you play as the arbiter. What a waste. 3 just spilt lies all over the place and had too many quirky one liners from alien movies from the 90's. I lost all hope for the Halo series after 3. It was like Bungie pulled a "Scary Movie" on their own series.

But I am the only person who signed the petitions against Call of Duty AND Battlefield and I am simply sticking to it. Never played any new CoD games and I do not like what EA and Dice are doing with BF3. I will stick to TF2 and CS for life. I want to see CS:Global Offensive.

And for you saying I have a limited taste. I never played Ico or Shadow of the Colossus. I never played Devil May Cry 1, 2, or 3. I was too busy playing Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1, 2, 3, 4, U1, and U2. I played through Legacy of Kaine but I only played through Spyro the Dragon 1. Crash 1 and 3. I played through Tomb Raider 1 and 2. As for SNES... Mega Man 7, Mario 1, 2, and 3, Mario Kart, Starfox. One series I miss a lot from N64 is Extreme G. What happened to games like Forsaken 64? Twisted Metal is one game I loved from the get go. I have played through hundreds of games. I even remember the time I finally got into Metal Gear Solid. I never knew about the entire series until I bought a PS3 back in early 2007. After I played the first one I immediately went to the next one. I beat the crap out of MGS4. And now I have all of the ones on PSP to sit through still.

But the Xbox in general does not have as many games that I want to play. And now I only own a PC, and I believe that I am too old to play video games anymore. I have a steady job that keeps me on the edge 24/7 and I barely have time to play my games. To say I am not a gamer is a joke. The XBOX simply does not hold my interest as much as Sega, Nintendo, PC, and Sony have for the past 20 years. To say the least... Xbox came into existence a bit too late for me. I was too occupied with too many other games.

My answer to your question is this.
If you had asked me 2 years ago I would answer with more games.
There are (were) few games to begin with.
Forza 3 made me want cuz it was a very realistic looking but also arcadey and easy to play.
I can't enjoy gt5 cuz it is too realistic.
Dead Rising was one thing I wanted for real and it found its way to PlayStation which made me glad.
Mass effect I had an eye for and when it was announced I really enjoyed the news.
I might still go and pic number 1 someday for PC.
Now there is only one exclusive game left on Xbox that I want and that is alan wake although I played through the game once, I wouldn't mind a play through with move.
I replaced forza with nfs:HP.
I didn't enjoy halo after playing multiple times both campaign and multiplayer and understand why halo fans enjoy the game.
The online part of the game is enormous.
I recommend all PS3 fans try to test it, although I didn't really enjoy but I could see how much time bungie did spend on the game.
So your answer for now is Alan Wake

Kinect was aggressively marketed as a must have game changer, Move was not. Which given the gullability of the general public explains why Kinect sold so well. Move still sold well for an optional control method, but most still seem blind to this.

If you are happy about your console of choice being turned from a traditional game machine to a fitness machine then fine, I'm happy for you. I on the other hand am not and will continue to support the console that adds optional peripherals not required ones.

Hitman0769 submitted his own "news story" which is what amounts to a blog post. The original version featured numerous missing games, and it doesn't take into account downloadable titles, which as an area the 360 excels. It also includes remakes/ports for both consoles.

Looking at his previous stories ("It's Time For Microsoft To Leave The Industry"), it's obvious he's not even trying to hide his bias. His profile on N4G lists his Xbox Live profile (Hitman0769), which has a grand total of 0 gamerscore and includes the following motto (avatar expression): "Getting Xbox 360 Soon."

A better article would either examine the review scores, quantity of games, include the release locations for said games, note which titles were remakes and were on previous consoles, and include downloadable titles. As it stands, this "article" is just lazy.

I also get most of my multiplatform games on the PS3 since it seems to be a much more stable system, the controllers are better (in my opinion, I LOVE the internal battery)

Oh, and I haven't bought a single Wii game. did get a 3DS, though, and all I have on that is a crummy sequel (pilotwings Resort) and a remake of an N64 game (Zelda). I'm having more fun with the ambassador program stuff.

Common sense says that a larger number of (quality) exclusives is good for a system. The PS3 has at least two exclusives in almost any genre.

FPS? Killzone, MAG and Resistance.

Racing? Gran Turismo, ModNation and MotorStorm.

RPG? Ar Tonelico, Disgaea series, White Knight series, Valkyria Chronicles, Atelier series, Demon's Souls, DC Universe Online, Hyperdimension Neptunia... okay, enough there.

Action/Adventure? Uncharted, inFamous, Metal Gear, and Yakuza.

TPS? SOCOM and Warhawk.

That's not even everything in every category, but you should be able to get the picture. Even if you don't like one or two games, there's something in SOME genre that could appeal to you. If there is literally nothing, then you are literally lying, or literally a fanboy.

Im a big time gamer for the past 25 years ...This gen I have played 95% of my time on my 360 and the other 5 % on my PS3 ....

I recently bought the Sony MOVE and its freakin awesome .... I cant wait to get socom 4 !

That being said , yes Sony always had MORE IP's in their library since the beginning (1995) and have more games that are developpers ''exclusives '' on PS3 ... 360 has less exclusives BUT they got the biggest exclusives that sell in the millions : Halo and Gears of War ....

Sony have been rushing out too many follow ups lately ..
Since 2006 ( PS3 lauch) they came out with 3 different Uncharted games and 3 different Resistance games .... ( in only 5 years )

Meanwhile Microsoft came out with only 3 Halo's since 2001 !

(ODST and Reach dont count) ....

While Sony's Grand Turismo has lost ALOT of marketshare to the Forza Motorsport , by only making 1 racing game in almost 6 years ( GT5 ) ....

So 360 has the 3 biggest and most selling franchises ...

1) Halo
2) Gears
3) Call of Duty ( multiplat but sells like an exlusive )

Uncharted is the only reason i still have a ps3, cant say anything else looks interesting. To me 360 exclusives have always had more replay value, still playing gears and halo 3 for example but every ps3 game ive got ive only finished once and then shelved. Lots of exclusives is never a bad thing, but id take one copy of gears 3 over the next years worth of ps3 games anyday :)

For me neither console has had a ton of exclusives up to September that I would actually buy. The majority of the games released for both are either poorly rated exclusives or games like LBP2, Gunstringer, Rise of Nightmares, MLB etc that I dont want to play. When its all said and done ps3 had a bunch of filler games up until now with notable exceptions of KZ3 and inFamous 2, which is better than 360 so far which has had nothing notable for me so far. Fortunately by years end the 360 will still have the better lineup for my preference, since I'll be buying Gears3, Forza4, Halo Anniversary vs for ps3 UC3.

I like a lot of the ps3 exclusives, and there is a lot of them, but a few of the games that I can't get on ps3(Fable, Left 4 Dead, Alan Wake, Ninja Blade, Bullet Witch, and Ninety-Nine Nights 2) are six Xbox games that I'd pick over any ps3 game, and I love the Xbox system itself so much that I must stay with Microsoft, and never switch back over to Sony. I think it would be better if they categorized the exclusives. Like psn/360 market games. Then exclusive disk games and exclusive move/kinect games. When I usually talk about exclusives with my friends we mean the disk games/retail. I do have a question. Would ps1 games on psn be considered exclusives still even though they technically came out for 2 systems?
