How to Become a Video Game Tester: G4U

G4 continues its week-long look at how to get a job in the industry by detailing the role of a video game tester. Tips like that people don't think of include demonstrating your verbal and written skills to explain bugs to the team and avoiding scams. There are many out there trying to prey on naive video game tester wannabes.

They should also warn people that game testing is sh*t work and it will ruin your love of gaming.

SwiderMan4605d ago

“Testing is hard work and can often be tedious,” Roper points out. “Someone who expects to just play video games all day will be disappointed. Someone who realizes that testing is a serious job, with high expectations, will be much more successful.”

SageHonor4605d ago

Yeah if you love games you probably shouldnt be a tester

Video game testing start as fun but it becomes a painful process.

I was taking up Simulation&Game Development @ wake tech one of the courses require to you to test your games. Not to mention you had to present your game in front of the class. If you had one bug in it you would be given a zero.
I had to spend hours testing a game for bugs and glitches, the programmer had to constantly update the game which was also a pain on his end.

I fully expect to see this game at Xbox Showcase this year.

Tacoboto17h ago

Me too.

I expect Hellblade 2 to be the start of a consistent stream of UE5 XGS titles. It's basically their default engine, save for ForzaTech and the proprietary engines in use at Activision and Bethesda.

purple10117h ago

I fully expected to see it released about 3 year ago, but each to their own

Lightning7715h ago(Edited 15h ago)

There's no way it would release in 2021 especially when it was announced at the VGA's 2020.

purple10114h ago

@lightning, that’s when the first trailer was shown, but it was known to be in development much earlier and Xbox fans were tooting it to be released years ago, the initiative studio formed in 2018, and to my knowledge have not released a game

That’s 6 years and all you got is a trailer and some empty promises
Good one from Microsoft, yet again.

Lightning7712h ago(Edited 12h ago)

Such is game development, long developmental cycles is one of the big black eyes of the industry. I don't see you complaining about Wolverine that got announced in 2021, releasing in 2026 and only got one trailer.

purple1014h ago

@ lightning
Nice try but for one, 2021 - 2025 would only be 5 years not 6,

And for two insomniac have developed multiple games or have multiple games in development over that time, and the initiative only have the 1 game to be concerned with

For three, we all know the quality Wolverine will be and although I do hope perfect dark is good, it’s unlikely to be as good as insomniacs proven track record

Good thing they got Crystal Dynamics to make it, at least they know how to make a game that has 60 fps.
