Battlefield 3 is two discs on Xbox 360

Funny PS3 gamers seem to care so much about how many disks the game is on. Yet they dont seem to care which version will look better, which clearly will be the PC version.

Why is it when the PC version gets discussed the same crowd will say oh better graphics, fps and more players wont effect gameplay. Yet they will nitpick over petty issues like how many disks the game is on lol.

I guess we found our reason why they haven't been showing it on 360. They struggled enough trying to fit the game on one dual-layered DVD. You can bet it'll be the most compressed of the two console versions. They had 50 gigs to work with in the PS3 version.

Not a big deal, I'd imagine. If it's SP/MP then boohoo, you get up to switch discs which takes like 5 seconds.

I'm still going to try my best to get it on PC, I don't want BC3, I want BF3, and console versions are definitely going to be scaled back to feel more like BC2.

Fact is that EA/PS3 are best buds and they will focus the attention on the PS3 version when it's not the PC version they are showing off. We still do not have a proper demonstration of MP on consoles and it's definitely going to be scaled back for both consoles.

My feelings towards issues like this is just play the game on whatever platform you want to and enjoy it. I actually think BF3 will play well on all platforms despite any of the technical and physical differences.

The last time we got a campaign and Multi on seperate discs was ODST and it worked out perfectly.

It's the same non-issue for 360 gamers, especially when your going to be playing the campaign disc on a limited basis.

The multi-disc will be the one that is going to get the most run anyways.

The game is going to make huge waves on both consoles in October...but for me..Just like BC, BC2, and the Dice-assisted Medal of Honor..Battlefield 3 will definately get love on my 360.

It's good that BF3 is on 2 disks because it means they didn't resort to gimping the other versions out of content.

There isn't anything inherantly wrong with games being on multiple disks, but remember that they can't properly make them open world if they have to be.

DVD restricts games like GTA and Elder Scrolls, not multiplayer titles.

Ms shot themselvs in the foot they knew sony was gonna do blu-ray b4 the launch of the 360 they new they wanted to do HD DVD but they wanted to milk it make it a add on for just movies.
Witch flopped if they coperated it in there systems with games playable you would see a double amount of space for devs to work on resulting in alot less DLC to pay for and resulting as time went on into uneeded splitting discs.

MS didn't add HD DVD because they were trying to keep costs down. As you know, HD DVD and Blu-ray were new tech at the time, hence very expensive. Sony did it because they MADE the blu-ray format and needed to promote it. If anyting, if Sony didn't create Blu-ray I bet they would have stuck with regular DVDs.

No contest for me. I hate gaming on my PC. I spend all day on my PC, the last thing I want to do is watch the machine I work on struggle to play BF3 on a 23" screen when I can be sitting back on my couch with my 7.1 home theater system, playing it on my 92" projection screen on my PS3 (and without being charged extra for playing online) like some consoles.

I gave up playing the never ending "Upgrade the PC and hope things run half decent" game years ago. At least with my PS3 it's not a constant battle of upgrading, updating drivers, finding other drivers when the ones you have aren't supported, shutting everything down, still runs like hell because I'm not spending $400 every other year to keep up, now hacks have ruined the game, on and on it goes. I gamed for years on my PC and in my opinion, slightly better visuals just aren't worth the hassle to play on a smaller screen in my office. This one's coming home to my PS3 down in the mancave without a doubt.

The difference between the PC and 360 is that you don't need to have a disc in the tray. You put the disc in once to install and never have to touch it again.

With the 360 installs you have to have the corresponding disc in the tray in order to play the game. I don't know how this works for multiple disc games on 360 and whether or not you have to change the disc at any point if it is installed as I don't own any multi-disc games for my 360.

But yeah the reason nobody mentions the PC version in that way is that after you initially install the game then the disc is an after thought. That and a ton of PC games sold these days dont even bother with discs in the first place given the popularity of services like Steam or Direct 2 Drive. I can't actually recall the last PC game I bought as a physical copy tbh.

What never ending upgrading your PC game? I built a PC around 5 years ago, it still plays even todays games on pretty decent settings. People act like P's need to be constantly upgraded all the time in order to be able to play games on top settings and that simply is not true.

This is going to work one of two ways.
1. Campaign disc + Multiplayer disc
2. Install disc + play disc.

The latter, which seems to be more common with 360 games, would make the mandatory install argument moot.

I'm not sure why people hate mandatory install anyways. It often means the game runs better than not installed. If memory is an issue, just uninstall a game you aren't playing.

I'm getting this for the PC, but if I was to get this on Xbox, I'd go ahead and remove the massive 1.9gb Burnout Paradise file and uninstall Reach (& Forza 3 in preparation for Forza 4).

I can't believe some people are so obsessed with a console that they resort to downgrading the competition in order to make their purchase feel justified.

Both consoles, as well as the PC, all have their advantages and disadvantages. You can claim that the PS3 has the best graphics even over the PC, but that doesn't mean you're correct. You can claim that the PS3 is the best console, but it's still all about preference. You can claim all you want that swapping discs is bad and that mandatory install is good, but in reality both don't matter. As long as the machine plays the game, it's error free, and you enjoy your experience, there is no problem.

I still can't believe you would claim that mandatory install is an amazing thing compared to disc swapping. I was under the impression that mandatory installs bring the PS3 version up to specs with the Xbox and PC version. I may be wrong, so if I am, correct me with some facts. I do know that 360 optional installs decrease loading times.

Fact of the matter is, the PC one will be installed and will only need one disk to run, while the 360 one will constantly have to change.
I'm glad they did the double disk on 360, it means they used the full amount of the blu ray instead of making a small 360 game and porting it over to the PS3.

Why would anyone use the SP disk much? Battlefield is all about multiplayer, especially the main series (bad company has more of a story).

I'm not a meathead who can't appreciate a story; currently playing Deus Ex and loving it but there are games for a strong story-focused experience and there are games made for competitive play.

The 360 version (and PC version) for me. My mates and I play together and there are always more than 4 of us. On the PS3 you don't have party chat so you can only communicate with 3 other mates of yours because of the squad restrictions.

That is a huge negative for me. Plus I already have 1943 and to be honest- who is going to play a game that essentially showcased the old Frostbite engine when they have BF3 to play?

Yeah, disk changing really isn't too much of an issue, although it is quite retro.. For me and most others it will be where your amigo's are... Same with dead island, The Xbox version is supposedly less buggy, making it the superior version on consoles, but I will get it on PS3 just because I want to play with my friends on there. Same with BF3, My friends are there so I will get it for that ps3 instead of PC, if most of them were on Xbox, I would get the 360 version.. I would not feel bad because it's 'not as good' as the PS3 one, because there is one thing the PS3 would not have, and that's my Friends....

This is the defining factor in MP game purchases, I get SP games on my PC always. Also I always wanted Battlefield 1943 and that's an amazing bonus in my eyes......

Pc gaming is definitely making a comeback now that GPUs offer high performance for competitive prices. Graphically, this game (like any other) can only shine on a Pc. I intend to have this running at max, 5780*1080 res, on crossfired 6990's (4gbVram).
Alas, for multiplayer, consoles is where its at. Still, I'll be getting this for my computer--as usual.

No one knows that they will look the same untill it's released but it's pretty obvious that EA seem more focused with the PS3 version, plus their giving a free game away with it aswell. It's like the whole Skyrim DLC thing...people now automatically assume that because Bethesda seem to be more focused with the 360 version, the fact that no PS3 footage has been shown and the fact that 360 owners are getting exclusive timed DLC that that version will be better.

Comments from developers like "Both version will be the same" is just assure everyone to buy the game despite what version will be better. Look at COD: Black Ops they said that both versions would be the same when it's crystal clear now that the 360 is superior and better supported

Simple really. Skyrim is using an awesome compression technique coupled with not really that complex physics engine.

Battlefield on the other hand, will have hundreds of things going on with multiple players. You have jets flying through the sky, tanks, trucks, 4 wheelers, and players all running around shooting and blowing stuff up. All while looking really really good.

Simply put, there is a lot more things going on at any given moment then there are in Skyrim.

Skyrim will have just one player and at any given time, there isn't going to be nowhere near as much action as in B3.

That said, I can't wait for either game. Got them both pre-ordered and paid off already.

The compression used for Skyrim works because it's a dynamic environment from a singular perspective whereas BF3 is online and from the perspective of each online player with the need to update in real time a lot of world elements and player actions. If BF3 utilized a similar compression algorithm, then the online experience would introduce a ton of lag and texture loading issues when playing online, making it almost unplayable.

Well I probably wont get Battlefield 3 this year, but I'll still get it on the Xbox 360. Two disks don't both me. One of the main reasons to get it on the 360 is party chat, I mean Battlefield games are known for having a lackluster voice chat system, I think it's 4 person squad based chat again, so being in a party chat where I can communicate with my teammates will be a huge advantage for me.

MGS4 and FF13 took up lots of space on the Blu-Ray disk...
and most of that space taken was FMV 1080P cut-scenes and uncompressed audio..
And texture detail and quality is mostly determined by memory size/bandwidth and GPU power.
It has very little to do with disk space as seen this generation by console games.
Ask yourself why ALL console games have a mixture of high and low resolution textures in ALL its games yet PC games that are just under 9 gigs fully installed on the PC HDD have all high resolution textures and larger environments?

Which DRM is not the way to go. DRM has been proven around the clock it is a broken solution for protecting their games. Spore is one example, it has been pirated significantly more than any non-DRM game and pirates get to enjoy the game without DRM. The consumer, the one paying for the game are the only ones putting up with the bulls*** that is DRM. It is in EA's best interest to just drop DRM because THE SOLUTION IS USELESS AND BROKEN!!!

Likely on 2-discs for the campaign and multiplayer facets each. It's really not that big a deal. Most FPS games don't have any strong narrative (CoD sure as hell didn't) so it's not the primary purpose of the title or the main selling point. I don't have a 360, so I don't really have to worry about it, but I see a few benefits of having two separate disks - like letting someone borrow the campaign disk while retaining the ability to keep playing multiplayer (assuming EA wouldn't block something that harmless, and that the disks are separated by campaign / multiplayer).

The 360 version shipping on 2 disks does not bother me in the slightest, mainly because I only game on PS3 and BF3 isn't on my games I'm hyped for list this year. Lets face it a game on 2 disks isn't a problem at all but it is a small nuisance.

PC is the way to go but if i wasn't getting it on pc i would buy this on 360 as my 2nd option. This game's bread and butter is in the MP and LIVE is where it's at. The only problem with pc games on line is the cheating hackers. It doesn't take long before idiots wreck the whole experience for the skilled ones. Want to know the 'real' reason why some fanboys don't like Bluray. It's not really because it has dozens gigs to play with. But that bluray's are just so hard scratch, I buy used games from ebay with no worries.(even from across the pond) Every console gamer worst nightmare is a unplayable game disc(RIP) No game disc is un-scratchable but ps3 game's damn near seem like it.

Man, the CD era really is starting to show its age, lol. It's been around pretty long now, almost time for it to finally die out. I'll give it till the end of the Xbox 360 life cycle. Once Microsoft stops using them, there won't be much of a need anymore, especially with the drop in Blu Ray prices.

The Xbox 360 disc format is DVD...Not CD....

We all know Blu-Ray is a stop gap Physical media format until everything goes digital anyway...

Think about it you can already download retail versions of games on both...the PS3 and Xbox 360... It's only a matter of time that you will be able to download the retail version same day it releases on the store shelves...Then game companies will realize that it's much cheaper (and eliminates used game sales) if they just go digital instead of physical media.

I would say not this upcoming generation (PS4 and Xbox 720...Wii U)...but the next generation is a good chance it will be download only titles.

Hmm, was anybody surprised? The textures alone in this game probably take up at least 10gbs themselves. I'm getting it for the PS3 and probably the PC. At least they didn't just compress everything to make it fit on one dvd then make everything look like garbage. LA Noire, Rage, and of coure BF3 all just prove the point that dvd's are old and outdated and its time to make the upgrade. Obviously by the next generation dvd's will be finally done with.
