"Newb!" -- A Terrible Trend In Gaming | The Game Fanatics

There seems to be a rising trend within the gaming community to insult and shun gamers who may be new to a particular game or genre, whether it's a new release or an older title.

This is not a victimless crime. Sadly I am usually the victim. :(

Newb!

Only joking, look at philip.

evrfighter4622d ago (Edited 4622d ago )

rising trend?

this has been around since early cs/quake days

hell cs servers i used to play in would kick you if you were useless to your team.

Instead of awkward, badly voiced, written, unbeliable and cliche "campaigns," that money could go into better training so these kids learn how to be useful on a team of players.

I would like to take the opportunity to say that as this disgusting symptom continues, it will be given to the game developers to better educate and train their players for the mechanics of the game.

As older gamers face less experienced ones, one half will have the advantage, but will face frustration at seeing their team mates suck.

Maybe FAR better training in games is in order, or inevitable?

We all have played a new game for the very first time so therefore we all have been "Newbies" to a MP game or map and spam the chat with questions on how to do this or do that!

Newbie meaning first timer should never be confused with "N0ob"!! N0obs are the idiots that no matter how long they play the game they are totally clueless to the strategy and just flat-out useless as far as a teammate!

N0obs are easily spotted running around in circles gun shopping, trying to snipe infantry with the AA guns, Landing Jets in the Ocean, flying Helicopters upside down, taking the tanks for a Sunday drive, Team-killing specialist and just basically sorry ass players who deserved to be cursed out and insulted because they are just not helping the team at all!

Newbie = tries to help team but is just new so they make a few mistake but their skills will gradually improve and they ask a lot of questions which is OK!

N0ob = some dumb ass who plays for 8 hours a day everyday but is just so friggin useless and has no clue to the strategy of the game! I will spam the chat with "N0ob Team" and insults in a heartbeat if i see like 3 teammates doing all the work while 10+ other assholes just fudge around!!

I'm a bit glad that PS3 won't be getting Cross Game Chat feature since not all people actually use it for team base and strategy. Just if someone calls you a "NOOB" or "NewB" you'll just hear them cut off or static. But am also a bit sad that we are getting it, but PSVita will, so I'm looking forward to it. Nice article.

I just got down yelling at a bunch of noobs on MAG. These knuckleheads were trying to attack without revive kits and they wouldn't try and take down bunkers.

pixelsword4622d ago

If you're truly a "newbie" yeah, it's not wise; but some of my loadouts have no revive kits; and with those I either stay close to the bunker as a mechanic/minelayer or I go behind enemy lines as an attacker to get at their sensors, doors, motor pool and whatnot.

Newb/noob is such a harsh word to call someone. I just call them idiots instead. If they're new to a particular genre, then they might not know what noob/newb is, and calling them an idiot works out better since they'll understand it pretty well >:)

Blaine4622d ago

lol

That's not entirely fair though. Everyone's a noob at some point, but not all noobs are idiots. Noobs who persist in their noobish ways and ignore advice from better players, now they're idiots.

pixelsword4622d ago

It's a harsh word, but I know another word that also starts with an "N" that's a lot worse; and the sad part is that people are trying to defend using that one as an acceptable bad name to call someone...

Blaine4622d ago (Edited 4622d ago )

Wtf? Noobs have always gotten hate. Either step up your game or gtfo, haters are right.

In fact, if anything, nowadays it's the noobs who refuse to improve their game. Everyone's a noob at first when they play a new game. Some people have more gaming experience in general so they'll overcome the learning curve quicker than others, but everyone goes through it. But now noobs often refuse to improve their game. Rather than learn from veterans, listen to them or emulate, they'll just go to the dev's site forum and cry like babies until the game gets patched to their liking. See MAG.

Modern Warfare 3 is set to be one of the biggest COD games yet features-wise, but it shouldn't leave out one of the best MW2 game modes in the rear view mirror.
