PS3 owners shun Modern Warfare 3 pre-orders

Xbox 360 owners might be looking at less killer exclusive games for the Xbox 360 (beyond Kinect and sequels), but in terms of pre-ordering Activision's forthcoming action packed first person shooter Modern Warfare 3, are putting down the cash in their droves.

I think you have that backwards. I've never seen the cheating in BLOPS that I saw in MW2. MW2 at one point was unplayable with people changing your custom loadout names to resetting levels to 1, people flying, etc, it goes on and on.

I've played a lot of BLOPS lately and have not had any problems other than host migrations.

Well, I got tired of buying expansions of COD4 at full retail price every year. There is absolutely nothing new or advanced in MW3 that we didn't see in previous COD games. @zeeshan Idk about pre ordering Uncharted 3. I would probably just rent it off of gamefly for the singleplayer. I never really got into the multiplayer (although the beat was great), because I found no replay value in UC2 and UC1. Those games were great but I after I completed the singleplayer they just collected dust. That's one thing I look for when buying a game (replay value), and I didn't find that with those games..... Same with Killzone 3

Sony is trying to make it one of it's flagship franchises, this has nothing to do with how well or badly InFamous 2 has sold. Look at Uncharted, Motorstorm, Killzone and Resistance bundles in the past, al those games sold within Sony exclusives standard, just because it didn't made COD, Halo or Gears numbers it doesn't mean Sony was disappointed at it's first party studios. For every Halo that sells 10 million, Sony had at least 6 exclusives that were million sellers, it's obviously a different business strategy.

I'm sorry, I appreciate getting good exclusive games for the ps3, but I cannot justify spending $60 on a linear story game like Uncharted. I loved Uncharted 2, but unless you like the multiplayer, which I do not, then it is a renter game because it can be beaten within a few days. There is no replay value for me with the uncharted series to justify buying the game.

Uncharted has pretty good replay value if you actually enjoy it.
I've played the games 4 or 5 times each. It's just fun.
If find it easier to go back and replay these type of games.

Besides, Uncharted isn't the most linear game out there. You're bashing plenty of great linear games from the past. Linear games outnumber open-world games and they're some of the best games ever made.

Why don't you just stick open-world/RPGs?

Mw3 is still a 50/50, I think most people have seen how bad the support for mw2 was. Black ops has been supported really well, but they've taken all the fun out of that game. It far better than mw2 but its just boring.

Lol you havent played black ops long enough. As with most games it can be frustrating but black ops is no fun after a while. Mw2 you could get spammed with the cheapest tactics but you could do the same back. Mw2 was not a good game by any means, due to it being soo over the top it was fun..Black ops is sort of lackluster. Its a shame because treyarch have seriously supported that game, there was 1 known hack for auto aim where it instantly locks onto another players head and that got patched 48 hours after it was out.

mw2 played fine online on my ps3, but with the exact same connection black ops is a joke. the only time theres no lag is when your're host, now if they could only make it fair for everyone.

That is perfectly fine by me. I have not bought a CoD game since 4MW. Every new game IW makes for CoD is just a rehash of COD4. I also have not bought any BF game since BF2:MC for PS2. Those two were awesome games. Now they all just suck to me. I went back to Counter Strike and BF1942 on PC because console FPS is for aim assist noobs. Its not that hard to play with a keyboard and mouse.

As for Uncharted 3. I will definitely play it over anything else this year besides LBP2.

i much rather spend my 60 on rage which is something new or buy saints row 3 which will be a lot of fun than just buy another COD with different skins and same MP for 60.

so if ps3 gamers think before they pre order smart for them there are other games besides COD and BF3 that are coming out this fall like batman 2,rage,skyrim,saints row 3,mgs hd collection

all 5 of those are coming out on xbox360 and ps3 plus more so enjoy something other than shooters some times

I think the number of other AAA titles coming out around the same time is also a huge factor. Uncharted 3, Skyrim, and Arkham City are the ones I can think of.

The article also mentioned Resistance 3 (and Madden pfft). I almost forgot about Battlefield 3. Yeah, it does look like the choices are abundant. MW3 is simply the least appealing choice.

I sort of feel that's not the main reason. Never really had many of those issues myself, except for the no dedicated servers issues. I think it's more about the mainstream audience, who don't look into other, less known shooters are more likey on 360. Not implying anything about 360 users, or the 360 console. Great console. Great people, but I think that the PS3 version of MW3 will be more hurt by competition than its 360 counterpart, and that doesn't have that much to do with exclusives.

After the mess of MW2 and clusterf**k that is Black Ops on the PS3, added to lack of innovation, and a boring gameplay mechanic, overpriced game + map packs + 360 superiority, I'm going for Battlefield 3. From what I read this article is turning into quite the fanboy war between 360 and PS3. The way i see it the preorders are going to go down for PS3 simple fact there are more games coming out. Me personally I preordered Uncharted 3, Resistance 3, and Assassins Creed Rev, and Rage , Sly Cooper 4 all for my PS3. COD honestly I only enjoyed COD4 and CODWOW that was it CODWOW offered something that has not been reproduced in current COD titles and thats campaign co-op and COD 4 just looked great.

As for 360 well COD on that console is about as popular as Halo and the games I am getting on my 360 are the Halo anniversary since I have never owned a last gen Xbox and I am getting Gears of War 3 because I want to see how the story pans out. Each console is marketed to specific people exclusives are Sonys strong point and Microsoft has XBL and shooter games. The only way I'll get the new CODMW3 game for either console is if Activision does something differant with them and make it Move compatible or make it so I can use the Kinnect on the game thats what I want to try out I mean they did it for the Wii and they were great and upped the challange factor using the Wii remote. But I want the game in HD graphics with that same caliber of difficulty. Thats the only way I will get the new COD game.

Here's a thought. Maybe more people just preorder on Xbox. Most of my friends don't preorder they just go out and buy the game. If you pre-order you have time to save the money and if the price changes on a pre-order you (generally speaking) pay the lower price.

Myself personally.. I will every now and then just go out and buy 'Cash' 4 or 5 games that I've wanted.. For example in April I dropped 300 quid playing catch-up on a pile of games I'd wanted for a while. (not nessesarily a great idea I know but it was at CEX so the prices I paid were rock bottom*)

Main reasons imo:

1. COD this gen is more closely associated with consoles than pc and out of the 2 consoles it's the 360 that has got all the exclusive marketing, dlc and partnerships with it.

2. It's one of those games that the slightly more casual gamer will play each year, similar to Fifa. When making a purchase this type of gamer would have been more likely to go for the cheaper console.

3. The PS3 has a lot of exclusives coming this fall.

4. Some might argue that the 360 doesn't have as many exclusives as PS3 and therefore sales of Multiplat games are higher

5. Pre orders don't tell the full story. I tend to pre order games near the time, just for delivery convenience. I've never worried about a game selling out. Also I'm surprised there are many pre orders on any platform when there will be a ton of stock and if last year is anything to go by supermarkets will have a day 1 price war.

There is simply NO NEED to pre-order a game if there are no incentives. It is 2011 and there are never shortages of games if you want to buy something day 1. If Gamestop doesn't have it, Target or Walmart or some other retail store does. Personally, I buy all of my games from Amazon and I only pre-order if Amazon is offering credit. Currently, there is no credit being offered for Uncharted 3, so I haven't pre-ordered yet. As it gets closer, I will put in my order so that I have it on release day. But, why give a retailer my money for them to earn interest in exchange for some virtual gun or outfit or some other nonsense.

As a side note, right now, Amazon is offering a $20 credit for pre-orders of Gears of War and Madden, but not Uncharted 3 (or Modern Warfare 3)... interesting.

Yeah well COD sucks..for me its just no fun after i prestige once..and map packs are through the roof in price...and what do you get with MW3.....ummmm...more of the same same point and shoot lame game...sorry to me its boring and i get little to none enjoyment out of this these titles....but its easy to pick up and play and feel like your doing good so thats what COD brings to the table...so yes fanboys and girl...you all have fun making the xbox the better console.

I still thinks its going to be the highest selling game on the PS3, sad as it may be. Most my friends who own a PS3 are on BlackOps 24/7. Not one of them own an Uncharted, Infamous or a Killzone game, let alone the thousands of good games to be played. Just the other day I got Kane and Lynch, and that game is fucking intense, felt like a certain Michael Mann movie. What i'm trying to say is people need to branch out as far as games go instead of playing the same game every year.

Its obvious its going to sell more on 360....I mean you have MS paying out the butt for anything and everything trying to make it seem better on 360, you have MS humping Activision any chance they get to advertise it on 360, and the most important factor to all of this?

You have 3 PS3 exclusives off the top of my head coming out from now to the end of the year, tacked on top of the 5 or so others that came out already. 360 has how many that are not Kinect?

first off Modern Warfare 2 was basically the same on both the 360 @ the PS3 for better or worse. Black ops is a different story. the PS3 version of black ops was a mangle mess of glitches upon release but the credit goes to treyarch and not the PS3.

I am well aware that there are many PS3 fanboys on this site but the fact is that the 3rd party companies give most attention to the Xbox360 version of their respective games both in development and after release be it Activision (evil) or EA.

The fact is that there are twice as many gamers on any given popular 3rd party game on the 360 as the PS3 be it call of duty or battlefield. when there are 100,000 gamers on black ops PS3 there are 300,000 on Xbox360 its just the way it is.

Yes many haters define the 360 as a so called "FPS centered console" but the 360 has many great games to offer all types of gamers from Mass Effect and Fable to bastion etc.

The PS3 has a few more AAA exclusives and the Xbox360 has the most gamers online.

I haven't played since MW2.... not really interested in that franchise anymore or what they have to offer..

I own 360 and PS3.... I played mainly on my Xbox 360 but once I got my PS3 I played that and still play more...

I dunno just me personally since I got my PS3 back in February with KZ3 I haven't bought a single game for Xbox...

I have the old white xbox with a 20gb... so Huge gamse are out of the questions because I'm not installing the data... and I simply not going to buy any game other than an RPG that includes more than 1 disc....

so the blu-ray is another reason I have been playing PS3 more... so I don't end up getting say like Rage on 2 discs... I think the xbox360 version is on 2..

but then again it doesn't really matter... it just boils down to personal preference... but COD/MW those games just got old real quick....

like the Guitar Hero craze... only it is COD..

Proof that PS3 Gamer's lack the FPS blinkers of their 360 counterparts and have some decent taste in games.
Personally never buying another Activision or COD game for the sheer obvious lack of quality.

This will be my first year to ever pre-order games: Battlefield 3, and Gears of War 3. I hate that out of all the other companys like THQ, Take-Two, and EA, Microsoft chose to partner-up with my least favorite out the them: Activision. I like Microsoft but considering the fact that them, and Activision are cheap, and is all about the money so I'm not suprised that they're working together. I wish I could do something to change that crap. EA is the best, Take-Two Interactive is the second, THQ is the third, and Activision isn't at all, and the Marvel games are the only games I like from them since they cancelled the True Crime, and Tony Hawk series, and had closed down Bizarre Creations! They sure know how to piss me off.
