QuakeCon 2011: OXCGN’s Final Wrap-Up

OXCGN:

"My vision is blurred; my body sleep deprived; my computer full of stickers I never even noticed before; my voice completely lost. Another year, another QuakeCon has come and gone.

"Saturdays and Sundays of the event are typically very low-key, and as a result, we’ve combined both days into one final wrap-up.

"OXCGN’s first year on-site at QuakeCon was a great one, and we’re aiming to continue being there in years to come.

Yeah these events seem to take a lot out of people...they need to plan an extra several days just to get the images swimming around their brains out and some rest!

BadCircuit4644d ago

I know. Everything I read seems to show how tiring these things are. But they still go, and people still love em.

Proeliator4644d ago

It's tiring because a lot of attendees can't afford the hotel! It's common to see them passed out in the BYOC, around various pieces of furniture in the hotel, and even outside, hehe.

I had a friend that stayed up from Friday morning to Sunday morning at the 2010 event. It was ridiculous.

XMNR: Hi-Rez Studios has kept busy the past month with a trip to Quakecon to show off Tribes: Ascend publicly for the first time and then a trip to Germany for Gamescom to give SMITE its first demo to the press and give more players hands on time with Tribes: Ascend. We caught up with Hi-Rez COO Todd Harris in between conventions as the studio gets ready for the PAX Prime convention in Seattle, Washington this weekend to talk about what they've learned from the public playtests of Tribes: Ascend, changes in the gameplay so far, a clarification on how the loadout system works and what goodies Global Agenda players can get by visiting the studio’s PAX booth.

Is this to be full release or download either way love old tribes action day one.

Queasy4626d ago

It's going to be a download release. Free-to-play and supported by micro-transactions for cosmetic items and 'loadouts' so you'll be able to jump in and play no problem from day one.

QuakeCon 2011: Taking The Lan Out Of Lan Party

OXCGN:

"QuakeCon 2011 concluded just over a week ago, and it was definitely one of the better years in the history of the event.

"AT&T pulled through this year, offering excellent internet connectivity and over five times the bandwidth of previous years.

"Unfortunately, nothing is without drawbacks; the result of this was that LAN networking was restricted to anyone on the same network switch as yourself, which means you could only play LAN games with the people at your table.

"The internet may be good, but this was an absolute disappointment. It’s taking the LAN out of LAN party."

Belgavion4630d ago

You'd think they could get an important LAN event like this right in 2011

gaminoz4630d ago

Interesting assessment of the Quakecon. Not for me (especially since it is in another country :) )

BadCircuit4630d ago

It seems more geared toward a certain PC crowd, whereas I like events that are geared toward gaming in general, especially consoles and many different publishers.
