Role-playing games define video games as a whole more so than any other genre. The ability to immerse yourself into the character, love and loathe the characters that surround you gives you a sense of gratification unattainable by many other genres. In this prequel released on April 22, 2010 by Zeboyed Games to Cthulhu Saves the World (12/30/2010), you are Dem, the Skeleton Knight. And with the aid of your allies, you must defend your world in this 2D turn based RPG.
GamingLives looks at how indie games are often hidden away from view on platforms other than PC: "Over the past few years, the rise of games released by independent developers has been clear to see on the PC and mobile platforms, thanks to the likes of Steam and iOS. However, in the background, there is the forgotten step-child of indie gaming: welcome to Xbox Live Indie Games, coming to an Xbox 360 near you now! Unless you live in Ireland. Or Australia. Or most of the world, pretty much."
GameZone's David Sanchez reviews Breath of Death VII: The Beginning, which is a humorous RPG. It offers a unique RPG experience that’s fun, retro, and totally hilarious, even if it is a bit short.
It's not often that a funny RPG lands on PC, consoles, or handhelds. When a comical entry in the genre does launch, however, it's usually an interesting and enjoyable take on it. Bright Hub looks at a few quirky titles and explains why sometimes it's cool to have fun with an RPG that doesn't take itself so seriously.
We need more good RPG's first. RPG's are something the industry is very lacking in as a whole, there are so few worth playing even...
And if you guys want to play a good RPG you've probably never played that beats the snot out of all others on the same system, try Crystalis on the NES. Yes, I am saying it even beats Zelda 1, and I don't say that often, give it a try. Best RPG on the NES by far. Try that, now THAT'S a good RPG. They need to make more focused around story.
And another RPG that happens to be a homebrew is Pier Solar, which is pretty good I've heard, check that out too although you can't get on right now. It's for the Genesis and is just wicked with amazing art and sound. I can't wait until I can get it.
One of the best comedy RPGs was Lunar/Lunar 2. It had a perfect mix of satire and epic story line.
I hope one day, someone will develop a Lunar 3...
I prefer dark RPGs. Demon souls was the best RPG I've played in the last few years, really built for the hardcore audience. Morrowind was my favourite before that, the first game where exploration and RPG really worked well.
I couldn't care less about storyline, there are some amazing books out there if you want a good story. What both morrowind and dark souls achieved was atmosphere. So many RPG's are lacking that raw atmosphere in a game. RPGs should draw their players in and make them feel part of their surroundings which both of those games achieve.
The traditional JRPG's just don't have the same appeal.
Nice. I especially like the Castlevania reference.
Too bad this is only on Xbox. I do think it's transparently dishonest that they make their "points" slightly more than a penny. As if they think people are so stupid as to believe they are spending less than they are, or hoping they will spend more by believing you are no longer using money but some fake kind of credit that isn't really worth anything.
I would barely call this the 16 bit era, more like the 8 bit era. It's reminiscent of the first shining force (16 bit and nicely rendered). Aside from the cool cult game references, it doesn't have much appeal to me.
