I love the series.

I want to see what Timesplitters will look like running on Crytek's Cryengine 3. All those bright cartoony colours will really shine, and finally hoist the series into the current gen (and onto PC for the first time!)

Hopefully Crytek won't strip it of its funniness or worse, try way too hard to be 'funny' (until it turns into painfully unfunny, à la DNF!)

EDIT:

'When we suggested doing an HD collection of existing games, Yerli added: "That’s a good idea! [laughs] There are indeed a lot of games doing it but we haven’t thought about that yet. But it’s a good idea..."

Now that's a HD collection I'd pay good money for! If it had online support for the 3 titles, it would be awesome. Not to mention Future Perfect had a really good story mode, that I wouldn't mind having a play through again!

tack1294680d ago

Yeah I would definitely buy an HD collection of timesplitters, if the multiplayer is included as well, even better!

malandra4680d ago

BS

they already have the next Xbox development kit and they showed a tech demo behind closed doors at E3

Iroquois_Pliskin4680d ago (Edited 4680d ago )

imo Timesplitters 3 was the best! i still remember being overwhelmed by the time traveling aspects and by cortez's shenanigans... cortez ftw

"Crytek 'Thinking About Timesplitters"

-___-

I prefer the original team of rare for make new game.

Darkfocus4680d ago

rare didn't make timesplitters....

digitaleraser4680d ago

It wasn't Rare, it was a group of ex-Rare employees who formed a company called Free Radical. Free Radical was bought and renamed Crytek UK, but some very important people left during that change over.

So I half-agree with what you're saying. Any attempt at Timesplitters 4 wouldn't be the same without these people, Steve Ellis (who developed Goldeneye's multiplayer mode) and David "Dr." Doak in particular.

madpuppy4680d ago (Edited 4680d ago )

Free Radical was purchased by Crytek and renamed Crytek UK, so The "original" company, just renamed will probably have a hand in making another Timesplitters game.

edit: as for the specific people involved digitaleraser has more info than I do.

the_best_player4680d ago

The game will feel like a crysis mod

geth1gh4680d ago

true, but it seems that most of the older gaming companies like rare that were in their prime back in the late 90s just can't make gameplay that stacks to other titles these days.

Not saying that's true for all of the developers, like epic for example. But while we are talking about rare, yea, I rest my case with games like perfect dark zero.

digitaleraser4680d ago

@geth1gh: Right, but Rare is just an empty shell at this point. You have to remember, almost no one who worked on Goldeneye or Perfect Dark were still at Rare to do PDZ...there's Ken "Klobb" Lobb, and that's pretty much it.

People seem to get too focused on developer names, and forget that a dev name means nothing if the individuals who made it great are no longer there. And the people responsible for making Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark quality games for their time all either left to create Free Radical, or were Martin Hollis.

After seing this headline i had to read this article. Because i have some news of my own witch make of it what you will. But could lead to another time splitters.

As many others i always found time splitters one of the best looking and fun playing games of last gen. When i heard that the company went bust i wasnt happy i was very sad for the devs. However when i heard that crytek was gonna employ these guys. so they can give them input on the console scene i was really pleased. 2 of the best devs you could want.

Now for my news my personal info read into it what you like.
When littlebigplanet first launched there was figures of sack boy. Many ppl sold them on ebay. I was one of thoe ppl a grown man of 33 not too intrested in toys like that these days. So i put mine up for bid. Sure enough it sold, only the buyers name caught my eye, so i messaged back stating congratulation on being the winning bid and asked him cheekly are you got any plans of making another timesplitters. He responded he said yes i am part of the team that made timesplitters but im one of the artists, intestingly he told me as for the next timesplitters. All we have in production like many others is just Art Concept'
So of course i couldnt beleave my luck not only have i sold to a dude who works on this game but hes bought my sack boy and told me theres art work flying around.
Thoe all this well and good this was b4 the company went bust. Untill i read tis today i didnt think it would happen it is there game they know it was top. COULD IT BE ? I hope so :)

hiredhelp4680d ago

Lol @ disagree doesnt matter i know a member freeradical messaged me and bought my ebay item. Yes morbius it is one smooth gem of a game.
Replayablility was awsome unlocking cheats made it fun.

Morbius4204680d ago

still one of the smoothest games ever.

AEtherbane4680d ago

Thinking? They should be doing!!

cannon88004680d ago

I didn't get to play timesplitters that much, not that i didn't want to but because i just didn't have the time. But now if this is true then I'm probably going to play this one.

BlackTar1874679d ago

Timesplitters 2 is by far the best one. All of them after part 2 went straight downhill

HD collection of previous Time Splitter games would be a day 1 buy for me.

Lylat_644680d ago

Same, anything Timesplitters is a day one for me :P, spent hundreds upon hours playing each of them back in the PS2 days.

BrezzyTv4680d ago

From looking at the gameplay, it just looks like Fortnite, this would have been very poorly received by timesplitters fans.

Cacabunga44d ago

Another legendary series that ends brutally.. glad this never came out, it’s an insult to the original one

Neonridr44d ago

I'm glad this got cancelled, what's with the Fornite knockoff? TimeSplitters was an FPS, not a 3rd person battle royale.

What were they thinking?

XiNatsuDragnel44d ago (Edited 44d ago )

Looks fornitey would've been cool at the time tbh

aaronaton44d ago

I got into a minor disagreement with their staff shortly after the closure, after i commented about a Timesplitters HD remaster to gauge public reception before such a big project here:

https://www.linkedin.com/fe...

Looking at the gameplay footage, it's clear that the staff (no matter what level) we're out of their depth, putting lots of hours into a game that would of been DOA if Embracer didn't shut it down.

CantThinkOfAUsername44d ago

They removed the footage. Here it is if anyone's interested: https://youtu.be/BesmfPD8fj...

It's basically a Fortnite clone. Seems like a good decision to cancel this game.

ocelot0744d ago

That's not time splitters I enjoyed as a kid/teen!!!

Wtf was that!

How TimeSplitters Split Once Again

TimeSplitters got cancelled for a second time recently, but for what reason? And is there any hope for another comeback?

To be honest the odds of this ever being good or recapturing the original trilogy were always going to be slim to none. The franchise was a product of its time. Look at how misplaced nostalgia met reality with Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. If you have to use old IP then most of the time you have to completely reinvent it from the ground up.
