Well, the confession is pretty damning and despite her lawyer claiming the police have forced her to le just to shut them up that's something we have to see in court. As it stands I find it hard to think, as a parent, that I'd ever be willing to admit to hurting my child if I hadn't done it but, also, I'd have admitted it was me way before she did too-so who knows? It wouldn't be the first time a woman who felt, in others ways, she'd already let her ,kid down was convinced by police to take the v
blame for what she hadn't really done but in this case everything, medically, seems to fit so well that you struggle to think she hasn't, at least, hit her little boy.

The other thing this case brings to my mind is all those folk who said the PSN hack and downtime was all Sony's fault for not keeping their security tighter than the rest of the World. If we take that logic here it's the police to blame for not enforcing the warrant well enough on this woman. Had they done their job the kid might be alive, no? Maybe, but it's sure as all hell NOT their fault what the woman did and it wasn't Sony asking to be hacked either. Just made me think how ludicrous the whole "ignore the actual thief" argument we had over that hack really is/was.

If this woman, and I think she probably did, kill her son as a result of what she did it still isn't murder but, also, she should get a higher sentence than MOST man slaughter cases because of all the chances to save him she ignored to cover her back. What was she thinking wasting time when her child was ill? She wasn't angry ALL that time. Poor little lad, poor poor ,little boy.

Secondly, the death penalty has NEVER been a decent(or any), effective deterrent for violent crime-in any society. In cases like this-a crime of a passionate moment where the killer just exp[loded uncontrollably, do you even think she considered punishment at the time? No. When she DID consider it later she did EVERYTHING she could to avoid it too-she wouldn't tke her kid to the doctors. She knew she'd done wrong by then and thinking she'd be killing herself by coming forward would then have made the confession less possivl;e.

Most importantly, though, is the fact we need to understand and spot temper issues like this a lot earlier to prevent them killing in futree and we can only do that by keeping these people alive and studying what made them like that, what triggers their violent tempers and how we could stop them in the future. Kill them and we throw away AN hope of any good coming from a terrible situation. To me, thinking about death penalties-even for the most vile and evil perverts around, is short sighted and panders a to a need for retribution which hinders us as society and species. We need to get past that and learn from the monsters so we can avoid making as many in the future.

It might satisfy our short term need for revenge but if we want something better in the future we can only get there by understanding the wrongs of today and making them more easy to soot before happening the next time round. Life must mean life, though, as even then we have the chance of rectifying our mistake if and when an innocent man or woman is convicted rather than risking killing another innocent ourselves in the name of justice.
