David Jaffe Hits Out at Twisted Metal Fan

A Twisted Metal fan has hit out at the game's creator's decision to include Jay-Z songs in the upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive. Naturally, David Jaffe wasn't too pleased with the fan's comments and the God of War creator has responded to the fan's 'racist' comment.

MSxbox-world.com????

I thought this was a PS3 exclusive.

GrieverSoul4682d ago (Edited 4682d ago )

The guy was being a douche alright.

Still, I dont like Jay-Z music... Im not very happy with him being on the soundtrack. I really dont like his music. But to go on an offensive personal attack to its skin color is just ridiculous.

I dont mind Jay-z but I hope its just one song

they could use something from JayZ vs LP albums

makes me laugh when people accuse people of being racist because they wont date someone from oppositte music preference.

So i find it funny how other people seem to think they have a right to dictate when it is ‘wrong’ that they dont date inter racially.

SilentNegotiator4682d ago (Edited 4682d ago )

Jaffe calls out a racist and MSxbox-world calls him a douche. That makes sense. /s

But it's Playstation related. I shouldn't be surprised.

@Above comment
The comment wasn't racist because he didn't like rap. It's how he said it.

ZombieNinjaPanda4682d ago

The kid was being racist, he deserved the developer's retort.

BattleAxe4682d ago

The USA needs to just let go of this hatred for people with different colored skin, its 2011 for heaven's sake.

SilentNegotiator4682d ago (Edited 4682d ago )

@BattleAxe

Who said the commenter was from the USA?

People need to stop thinking that racism is exclusive to the US and that everyone speaking english is from the USA.

Lifendz4682d ago

I wouldn't mind a little "99 problems" on a Twisted Metal stage. "Kingdom Come" would be hot. Maybe a little "Public Service Announcement" during the menus...I dunno...has some potential to me. Guy was probably looking for attention and he got it. Rather the re-publish these sorts of things I think we should just add it to the ignore bin.

Rattlehead204682d ago

@SilentNegotiator

What? They never called Jaffe a douche?!

Read the article man!

pixelsword4681d ago (Edited 4681d ago )

@ zootang:

well, given E3 and all, he has to write about *something*

=/... (really, get some info on Gears 3 or that roman game on kinect already!)

At any rate, why the Eff do they have the word racist in quotes like what that punk said was debatable if it was a racist quote or not?

You gotta wonder how stupid people are getting these days.

gaffyh4681d ago

@Silent - They didn't call Jaffe a douche anywhere in the article. Also the comment is very racist, he says:

" Not to be racist but I don't want to here blacks rap about there bitches and hoes at all. Nor do I want them playing TM. "

That's very racist imo.

Spydiggity4681d ago (Edited 4681d ago )

lets be clear here. the guy probably is a racist...but his comment was NOT racist. mentioning skin color does not make you a racist. He was not hating on another person's skin color, he was hating on the music.

hating on music is not racist and it's perfectly okay to do so. he shouldn't have said it the way he did though, because small minded people will deflect away from the issue (which is that the music choice sucks) and focus on the fact (the semantics) that he said "black."

again, the guy may be a racist...seems likely, but the point of the comment was not to be racist, it was to express a distaste in TM's choice of music. the person expressing the distaste just happens to be an idiot.

now, if anyone else says "jay-z sucks," they will also be labelled as a racist; when in fact, jay-z just plain sucks. if you're gonna put in some rap, lets go for some quality underground stuff...especially since TM feels like an underground type of setting (not literally underground). maybe some Immortal Technique (not really underground anymore, i suppose)?

CarlosX3604681d ago (Edited 4681d ago )

How about fans start learning NOT to make spats with Jaffe. Then these fans wouldn't get these embarrassing spars. :P

Lykon4681d ago

I hate black gansta rap and i hate it in games but that doesn't make me racist and doesn't mean i prejudge people who like rap. It is actually quite a challenge to live around black communities with the crime and violence etc and not become prejudiced though.

ZombieNinjaPanda4681d ago

If you guys seriously do not think that what the dude said wasn't racist, you need to re-look at it a couple times.

"'Really? Most of these suck! Is he really trying to get Jay-z songs in a Twisted Metal? Not to be racist but I don't want to here blacks rap about there bitches and hoes at all. Nor do I want them playing TM. "

I don't want to 'here' black's rap about their bitches and hoes at all.

****Nor do I want them playing TM."

If that ain't racist that I don't know what is.

No Way4681d ago (Edited 4681d ago )

Are you kidding, man? How can you say that that statement is not racist?
Okay.. "Not to be racist" Stop there, you know a racist comments coming.
Just because he mentioned that, he knew what he was sayin; bein racist.
"but I don't want to here blacks rap about there bitches and hoes at all."
Okay, so that may be more stereotypical, but being racist can be debatable.
"Nor do I want them playing TM." If you say that's not racist.. You're ignorant.

Spydiggity4681d ago (Edited 4681d ago )

i already explained VERY clearly why the statement itself isn't racist.

if he said "i want black ppl to die, or black ppl are ugly, or w/e" THAT would be racist.

what he said was that rap music is about hoes and whatever. well, that's actually pretty factual...sure, it's a generalization, but it's still not a lie.

the guy may very well be a racist, and the comment may have been tinged with racial connotation; but the point of the comment was that he didn't want a certain type of music in this game, and THAT is NOT racist.

people are so overly sensitive towards what white people say. if a black person said country music was just white people singing about trucks, would you think that's racist? NO! you wouldn't. because the comment isn't racist. it's a semi-factual generalization. the person that said it might be a racist, but the comment itself is not.

people really need to grow up and stop deflecting the issues with semantics. that is the point i was making, and i stand by it. i fully expected to get a ton of disagrees for my comment. people aren't smart enough to think beyond unimportant points...that's why nothing ever gets done in washington...too much emphasis on semantics and not enough focus on the real point.

if a racist says "i like turtles," that doesn't make the statement racist. his views towards race have NOTHING to do with the statement.

stop trying to be so overly pc and THINK! political correctness is such a blight on society anymore. sympathy and empathy are a good thing, but political correctness is a BS means of guilting stupid people into towing the line. and in this case, jaffe is using it as a way of side-stepping the issue, and that is that he is being called out for putting music that some ppl don't like into his game. but instead of doing the grown up thing, and arguing about why he put that music in there, he's deflecting the argument into an issue of race so that he doesn't have to address it. see how easy it is to win an argument when you make accusations of race? he automatically wins. it's incredibly childish.

EDIT: Ignorance is expressing an opinion or a point of view despite a total lack of knowledge or understanding. I completely understand where you people are coming from, and i partially agree. but the ignorance is your position on the argument when the overall point of the statement is about the music, not about black people. most rappers are black, and much of rap is about money and hoes. you can't dispute these facts. the fact that the guy is racist is irrelevant to the perspective being presented. he doesn't think rap music is well suited for twisted metal. if jaffe thinks it is, the ONLY argument that he counters with should be about why rap music IS suited for his game.
i recommend everyone goes and reads the text book called "The Art of Reasoning."

jib4681d ago

@spy

did you miss the part where he said he doesn't want "them" playing twisted metal?

and to quote: "I don't want to here blacks rap about there bitches and hoes at all. Nor do I want them playing TM" -- again: " ...NOR DO I WANT THEM PLAYING TM"

how is not wanting black people playing twisted metal not racist?

Marceles4681d ago

I didn't mind the complaint until he said "Nor do I want THEM playing TM". I'm pretty tired of Jay-Z myself. I'm black, but shit like this is so racist that all I can do is laugh that there's still people like this in the world.

Anarki4681d ago

I agree with the guy to an extent. I don't want to hear that kind of music. Twisted METAL.....should have METAL right?!

Kleptic4681d ago (Edited 4681d ago )

This is always a tricky topic to comment on without having someone pull the R card...

The kids statement was 'racist' in the extent that he labeled it 'not to be racist, but...'...

but what no one can argue against is that 80% of rap is generally a 'black person bitching about his hoes'...or 'money'...or 'weed'...its like people that don't prefer that type of music are not allowed to mention that most of it is exactly that...

and its perfectly fine for ANYONE to not like it...personally i can't listen to more than 30 seconds of pretty much all of Jayz's stuff...I don't find it cool, or hip, or why it sells so much...

but do I care if its in TM?...no...I understand there are plenty of people that do like it, and that doesn't bother me at all either...Pretty much any modern video game will have some degree of music I don't prefer, and i just either get over it, or hope the game has the custom music feature...which pretty much all Ps3 games do now anyway...

just lighten up...the kid had a point that the majority of available rap songs center around what he mentioned...that isn't his fault...he just went about the comment completely wrong, but its not like the backlash was THAT big of a deal either...

reminds me of this; still one of the funniest things i've seen this guy do:

If the guy dont like rap. HE DONT LIKE RAP! God make your own Ghetto TM if it pisses you off that much

news4geeks4682d ago

apparently the guy claiming to have wrote it then commented:

"Yay that was me. Not a huge fan of rap. It was a mean comment agains African amerians but it was a joke that people at TMA and aparentley the maker of my favorite game series can't understand. I do how ever like older hip hop. Don't call me a racist though becuase I'm not, and if think I am well, I guess I have to tell the creator of my favorite game to F-off. Though if you could understand that it was a joke and realize you tweat got me into pointless arguments at TMA i'll definitely over look this and still respect you."

This guy is an idiot. He may not truly be racist but what he said definitely is racist and didn't come across as a lighthearted joke.

KING854682d ago

To make that comment and then say I am not racist is this guy simply being dilusional. If you don't agree I does not belong on the soundtrack that is all well and good. This guy is however so racist he can't even realize it. A joke. I guess many may not share his warped sense of humor.

OC_MurphysLaw4681d ago

This guy was a total Douche bag. "Don't call me a racist though because I am not" See that is the problem with most people these days that make racist comments... They don't think they are being racist because they only make comments or just talk that way to friends about others of a different race. News flash to all the ignorant individuals like this person. If you think that way, even if you don't publically say it, you are at your core a racist. And for this idiot...if you are going to put up in a public forum that kind of BS... you most certainly are a racist.

Lastly, racism is a disease born from lack of education. If you are a racist you are sick... you could be cured through learning but sadly most will die inside from it.

BX814681d ago

Bravo sir! People like him think it's ok to be a dumb ass because they hang around with other dumbasses. Perfect example I have 4 people I play call of duty with and they're pretty decent guys but this one thing really bothers me. The other day we're playing black ops and they were talking about some guy and they kept reffering to him as a "nig". WTF is that? I always make a comment to them about it and just zone them out.

jimmywolf4681d ago

@Dlacy13g i don't agree with him but way you think it is elitism , if you hate someone your a racist who slowly die inside? right, the whole world hates in one form or another, everyone can an will be racist at some point in time. hating those that hate, does not make your the lesser evil, it just breeds more hate

OC_MurphysLaw4681d ago

@jimmywolf... I never said if you hate someone you are a racist. I fully understand someone can hate another individual and have justified reasons for the hate. But to hate all people of a race for no other reason than their race is racist and through my eyes wrong.

I do agree with you that at some point most everyone (there are always exceptions) will harbor some kind of racist thought or feeling of anger. It is through education and understanding that we realize those thoughts are miss-guided. I don't hate racists, I just feel sorry for them that they have such an uninformed view of life and society.

No Way4681d ago (Edited 4681d ago )

What's funny to me about people and racism, is my thought about it.
Parents who are racist tend to raise there kids to be the same; racist.
Though, all that is doing, hypothetically, is raising your kids to be hated.
Because, if you are racist, you will hate people (for no logical reason).
Therefore, hating a whole race for a stupid reason, makes people hate you.

At least, that's the way I look at it, when I see parents 'teach' their kids.

God Of War Creator Thinks That The Character Of Kratos Took A Wrong Turn

Terri writes: "In a recent video released by the creator of the God of War series, David Jaffe, we can see that Jaffe is not fond of the direction PlayStation took regarding the franchise, and in particular, Kratos himself."

SinisterMister119d ago

Well, I personally think that Santa Monica did an absolutely phenomenal job with Kratos, showcasing insane character development in all the right ways.

Jin_Sakai119d ago

I disagree. God of War went from a brutal action game where Kratos was slaying gods to a boring father figure. God of War 3 was my favorite in the series.

Christopher119d ago

I much prefer the focused and purposeful with reason Kratos who still gets into brutal combat and still has to kill gods even though he tries not to. Past Kratos was just anger personified and did nothing but subvert any expectations of him being something else other than just rage.

darthv72119d ago

2 is still my favorite. Everything about that game is top shelf design. the scale and scope of things like fighting the colossus of rhodes to awakening the steeds of time... just epic. 3 was good, but 2 is the high point of the original trilogy (for me).

The direction santa monica took for the reboot was less GoW (god of war) and more GoW (gears of war). The whole 3rd person perspective, having a partner (even if its his son), and lack of verticality with no more jumping and creating crazy areal combos... it was difficult to come to terms with but i managed. the story was good though, but i still give the nod to greek mythology over norse (and likely egyptian if that is where they go next).

frostypants119d ago

I can see it either way. I agree that the series now has nothing in common with the original beyond superficial character appearances and general setting. They sort of used the IP to sell an entirely different style of game. That said the new games are well made in their own right.

VivaLaManual119d ago

Yes. The game grew and stopped being one dimensional. What a shame....

DarXyde118d ago

I don't even think Jaffe really understood Kratos, despite creating him. Or rather, he doesn't seem to understand how he created the fertile ground for this kind of character development arc.

He was always a warrior, but he had a very human element since day one. He had a chance to protect his family again in God of War I and Ares took them away... Again. He knows he can't get them back and moved forward as the new God of War. Fast forward, the Gods betrayed him (though he was still sympathetic to Athena at the time). Eventually, he waged war with Olympus.

He was part of the pantheon and that would've been the entirety of his story arc where he oversaw war for all time.

But the truth this, Kratos has changed, but he largely remained the same. His two constants were always pride in his family and revenge against those who have wronged him. You take those two together (a threat to his family and Gods looking to kill him) and the direction he's taken is pretty congruent with who Kratos always has been. I guess you can say Kratos would just be a merciless monster for the sake of it, but the old games never explore present aspects of the character (e.g., what kind of father Kratos was). We got a look at that, and with a boy, no less.

I find the franchise did well to age with the audience. I was an angry teen when the original came out. Now I'm kinda mellowed out with a family and I just get it.

I think it did an excellent job of connecting with the audience as we grew up. It's a bit like Toy Story in that regard.

Monstieur118d ago (Edited 118d ago )

Agree. I liked GoW 3 the best as well. There weren't enough unique boss fights in the reboot.

Crows90118d ago (Edited 118d ago )

Well he aged considerably. Define boring father figure exactly? Maybe your father was boring but don't put that blame on others.

As far as slaying gods ...you're right ...he went from god slaying to....hmmm god slaying.

The newer Kratos matured with the audience. They could have just kept doing the same game over and over but they saw it getting stale so they had to switch the formula...they did so incredibly well.

SinisterMister118d ago

While God of War 3 is undoubtedly excellent in its own manner, the "boring father figure" part is something I don't agree with. For starters, if the situation calls for it, the old Kratos is back on camera, like when he fights against a particular Aesir god in Ragnarok.

tombfan118d ago

He achieved his goal... he actually got the revenge he was so desperately needing and in the end what? It'd be terrible character development if he would just go to another mythology to kill more gods just for the sake of they being gods. They actually gave them a meaning in life, and even better, they got an amazing idea of how to create a new game with actual bealavility and a plot, not just merciless kill.

+ Show (6) more repliesLast reply 118d ago
savedsynner118d ago

Agree 100% Kratos had about an inch of depth before the norse version. Now he feels like a real character, a real dad, with real reactions based on his experiences.

gold_drake119d ago

i think they did a fantastic job with Kratos.

Snookies12119d ago

Wasn't Jaffe the one who got stuck on something easy in Metroid Dread and started bashing the game because of it? From what I played of GoW 2018, they actually gave Kratos some much-needed depth. I definitely plan to finally go through the newer entries once my PS5 comes in.

tombfan118d ago

Jaffe got stuck with his young mind thinking and it really showed with his latest attempt in gaming "Drawn to Death" it was like a teenage dream that became true and also, sucked.

Christopher119d ago

This whole video was essentially him finding comments to back up his own opinion. "It looks like a lot of people think..."

Yeah, well what do the review scores, sales, user scores, and completion rates on the last two say? Anything on that?

Reaper22_118d ago

Nothing wrong with his opinion. He created it so he's earned the right to criticize. Review scores and sales have nothing to do with it. It's success was never in question.

Christopher118d ago

You should probably read the first part of my comment. He's cherry picking opinions to support his but ignoring the plethora of other opinions.

Yeah, he's allowed his opinion, but his arguing method is to act like people just agree with him and not the diverse opinions out there on the subject.

-Foxtrot119d ago (Edited 119d ago )

People won’t like it I know but he’s entitled to his opinion being the games creator

I totally disagree but it’s not going to ruin the game for us who do like it

purple101119d ago

Yeh I may or may not disagree but he created the original and without him we would have no god of war, (or maybe one that wasn’t as good). So he can say what he wants in my books

Last I heard of him he made a black ad white game with a weird sketch art style. Similar to Sega Madworld

Haven’t heard from him since
Shame

itBourne118d ago

Drawn to Death, yeh, played it at the Playstation experience, it was quite fun, an old school arena shooter. Then it came out, and everyone died quicker, so strafe battles gone. It essentially turned into die, insta spawn, use ult, get a kill, they insta spawn, ult you, you die, and just repeat that loop lmao, its was terrible.

Christopher118d ago

I just have a problem with him saying they shouldn't have called it God of War because his opinion doesn't align with theirs on the future of the IP. That part I felt was pointedly petty.

Seven Ways To Reboot The Twisted Metal Games

Babadook7268d ago

Wow. I like the idea of VR twisted metal with a wheel.

Rebel_Scum268d ago

They need to get the enemy AI balance right. Thats what made 2 the best in the series. Black was abysmal in that dept.

neomahi268d ago

You don't. Do sequels. If you've gotta reboot, might as well do a new IP. God of War is the only game I can say that did a successful reboot

TiredGamer268d ago (Edited 268d ago )

Isn’t the new GoW just a sequel technically?

I personally think they can leverage the roots of the series. The original TM in 1995 took place on Christmas Eve 2005, and it was the 10th contest in history. Why not “reboot” the franchise by making a prequel of sorts showing the origin story of the series and maybe linking all the future games in a brilliant way. Seems like such an obvious idea to leverage old with the new (kind of look how Doom 2016 did with its lore).

Knightofelemia268d ago

Just make it a good game Twisted Metal has it's fan base.
