Didn't expect it to at all and dunno why it should anyway. Got my PS3 for Blu-ray playback, but will get the Wii U just for gaming, just as I did with the Wii. Blu-ray/DVD playback would be a nice finess, but certainly not vital IMO. Would just mean it would be more expensive.

Nintendo has lost their way. With the DS and the Wii, they talked about getting back to the roots of gaming and making videogames - not movies or TV shows - the center of the living room. That was less than a decade ago.

Now Nintendo has turned into a toddler in pull-ups shouting "I'm a big boy! Lookie me! I have multiplatform games that come a year after they hit the other consoles (Battlefield 3, Arkham City)! Imma big now, mommy!"

How does that post have anything to do with Blu-ray playback? Isn't removing Blu-ray playback a sign of focusing on games (though I know Wii didn't have it either)?

I'm not quite sure I understand what you're saying here. If I'm not mistaken you're just trolling then.

dedicatedtogamers4698d ago

No, Nintendo is trying to be more multimedia focused these days, which is a departure from how they used to be.

Doesn't matter to me, I haven't bought a movie in years! I went from having over 500 dvd's to none and haven't looked back! Netflix all the way!

At least you are ensuring that your drive will have extra life by not over using it for multiple task.

gamingdroid4698d ago

I agree with you, I completely stopped buying dvd's a long time ago. Especially after netflix started streaming and since, I bought 2 Blu-Rays, both less than $10!

What concerns me more is that Nintendo is making their network too open without any standard requirement. That is essentially the strategy PSN (or lack of) had, thus not all games support trophies, less people with headset and a bunch of others (mostly minor) features....

oh really? then you will have no excuse for putting out an expensive price tag on this thing.

gamingdroid4698d ago

cough cough... they are going back to their roots

shikamaroooo4698d ago

They are cheapening the Wii U manufacturing costs

fossilfern4698d ago

I love how all the details of the system are coming after their press conference. The Wii U was badly presented at E3

Knushwood Butt4698d ago

"but I can speak generally about the direction that we are moving in.".

That sums up everything Nintendo has to say regarding the Wii U.

Wii U games that still haven't been ported to Switch

The Nintendo Switch is potentially nearing its lifespan, and several Wii U games haven't found their way over as ports yet.

I think it's better to leave games like AC: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash forgotten on the Wii U. Best case, they are mediocre games; worse case, they are very bad. It was a dark time for the Wii U, and the first only exists to sell Amiibo cards, whereas the second was put together in a couple of months with a shoestring budget, and it shows.

The rest of the list does have some really cool games, though. I would love to see a remake of Star Fox Zero with decent controls, and Xenoblade X doesn't require that much modification to work.

How would XCX work without dual screens functionality?

Cacabunga4d ago

Same as Paper Mario color splash. One of the best wiiu games and getting even better with dual screen. Same reason why i prefer Splatoon 1

This article leaves out Nintendo's most controversial game to date devils Third.
I personally found the cover system really fun in that one compared to at the time most fps games completely lacking one.

Stevonidas4d ago

Devil's Third is HIGHLY underrated.

repsahj3d ago

They should remake Starfox to the switch 2. Very beautiful game during gamecube days.

Kirby is always ignored or forgotten by people, so good to see it mentioned here.
Play Kirby Canvas Curse on DS, and then play Rainbow Curse on Wii U, they're really fun and unique 'platformers' without any actual jumping.
