If it's "on par" with the ps3/360 in power, than I'll bet that controller will end up creating a price barrier.
It would be interesting if this controller, which from E3 is obviously the focus of the system (Like the "revolutionary" Wiimote, lol), ended up being its biggest downfall. Just like how the much weaker, and only about equal in features, 3DS is $250 like its soon-to-be competition, likely thanks to its expensive and ineffective screen.

I said day one because i like the idea of the controller. We have already been given a good idea what it can do.
Also as an alternative to playing on my PS3 or 360, i sometimes like to just sit back, chill out and play some Mario/Mario kart/Donkey Kong/Metroid/Zelda. If you can tell me where i can play future HD versions of these titles without buying the WiiU then by all means show me. Thats why i can say "Day One" with confidence.

The controller will be its biggest downfall. It will work for certain games, but for fast action based games it simply detracts from the focus of the big screen. If not utilized properly, this controller would not be the first choice.

First, its not comfi to play a shooter with such a huge controller, and second, imagine to get shot every time you look down on the controller to read some stats.

It'll work great for some games - but imagine, that game stays live while you look at your inventory. And, bam, your dead. Having an inventory on screen forces the action to pause. I don't have a good feeling about that. We'll find out. I like the raw power of the device. Just give me a DS3 with it (not another shitty Nintendo controller).

Actually I see the 360/ps3 getting a lot of support still after Ps4/NextBox and since the WiiU prolly won't be tooo much more powerful they'll put the games on their as well. Thing is I bet the tech in the WiiU is more powerful than ps3/xbox but I doubt it's that costly so they'll be able to launch cheaper and prolly not lose as much money on each console sold if any at all as we all know they don't like to do that. I doubt we'll have another generation where a console gets as much flak as the Ps3 did, and to be honest the main reason it did is becaues high price point and they completely ruled last gen so the media likes to use anything they can.

Simplicity and low prices, DigitalRaptor. Wii and DS were relatively cheap upon their release. Nintendo has been tight-lipped about every hardware spec, and the price that would be attached to that hardware. If something comes out that only slightly tops the PS3/360 in visual quality, but is as pricey or more so than those systems, it's just not going to be attractive to PS3/360 gamers.

The other titles we know about is a lego GTA game and some cheap looking alien shooter.

And don't tell me the gamers who want to play those games have just been BEGGING for the successor to the WII. They're better off with the much larger set of games on the PS3/360, which will also get all of those EA/Ubisoft titles.

Makes you realize why you can only use one controller at a time with it (Wii U controller). Those things are probably worth about £100+. Plus the 'box' (as Regi put it), looks to have superior tech to next gen consoles, so that'd no doubt be another £220+. Basically, end of the day my estimate for the whole package is gonna be £299.99 - £349.99.

To the casual Wii crowd however, that's a tough sell lol unless the USP of having a tablet controller makes them pay the money. I mean if Apple can sell shit for over £600 yearly with little change, then Nintendo can sell this. Early adopter, like with the Wii, will most likely be the core audience like us. My grandma has a wii, it was a gift. she asked me how much games were and i said $50, and she said something like, Wow! Fifty bucks! thats WAY too expensive! the only games she has are bargain bin ones, she said she got like 2 games for $20 total, so yeah.

If Nintendo is banking on casuals to buy it, then its a risky move. Then again, Kinetic sold well, from what i have been told, so i would assume, most people bought a 360 & Kinetic or the bundled version for $400+. But still, its a VERY risky move.

Good for you mr gamer, i paid 599 for my ps3 as well, it's not an issue of affording for some but determining if it is worth the asking price to ourselves as a gamer.

Anything above $350 is going to price itself out of the market. At that point single console owners looking at a new or additional system would probably start thinking about a 360 or PS3 due to the price drops.

Having one of those controllers per system is also going to hurt sales.

The loyal masses to Nintendo will scoop up the latest and greatest regardless.

On the other side of that coin a lot of gamers are thinking it would be better waiting for the next generation xbox/ps system as it will, more then likely, be leaps and bounds ahead of the WiiU.

If the controller itself has its own dedicated hardware and not streaming gameplay from the console then yes, its gonna cost alot of money. That means Nintendo will need to pay for hardware components for both the controller and console.

people keep saying this is gonna be as powerful as a PS3/360 but how do we know, all those tech demo's ran on dev kits the console hasn't even been finalised. it's like what they did with the Wii promised the world and what did we get just a GameCube in iPod clothing.

after all the confusion at the conference I hope Nintendo come good and actually make a powerful console for once. I'm a big ninty fan but the past few years they have broke my little old heart! (except the DS)

and they put 3gb ram and 1gb vram

I really don't know why this would cost more than $300. The tech they said would be on par with Xbox, which the manufacturing costs for that are dirt cheap now, let alone in 2012. The only expensive tech in the thing would be the controller screen but it's only a single touch display- not multi touch like other tablets and such. Also, the controller display doesn't use the highest resolution screen either. People are saying it's okay res-wise but nothing near an Ipad or anything like that.

I don't get why some of you are even thinking it'll be over $350 tops. There's absolutely no way it'll cost more than that unless they change the tech to be "more powerful than Xbox". I really think it'll be $300.

I just want to know what the difference in power between this and the ps4 will be. If the Wii U comes around more than $400 then it will definitely be able to compete against the ps4.

Given that the Wii U can apparently play any currently graphically powered ps3 games easily at launch, then it must have amazing graphics. Cause obviously once developers in later years learn how to fully use the console, the Wii U must do things that would crush the ps3.

The real question is how it will compare to ps4 and wether the difference in power will be huge. The ps2 powerful but was the weak compared to the later released Gamecube, although clearly not too much to be unable to play the then current gen games.

Hopefully it's no more than 360 / PS3 because technically it's the same generation of hardware. The gimmick pad is nice to have but not really needed.

My guess is that they will have two versions with a $75 price difference. I suspect $300 and $375.

So many sony and ms fanboys.. you were the same people that said the wii would fail and it has destroyed the ps3 and 360 in sales so much that ms and sony had to copy like they always do... this is looking like a great console its more powerful than the current consoles with a gpu 3 times better its gonna have great third party support plus all the nintendo exclusives and cool interesting controller that eveyone who has playded it says its comfortable, cool and fun..

Anything over $299 will just be too expensive, especially if the Wii U is only on par with ps3 and 360. By the time Wii U launches ps3 could be at $199, and 360 at $149.

Casuals have no loyalty and they will buy whatever's cheapest. A $399 price point will be a tough sell to the casuals.

And just to add if Sony or MS announce their next systems with beast specs for $399 then you can bet a ton of hardcore gamers will wait for their sytems.

I was really excited for Nintendo's next gen system thinking it would be a beast but it looks like I'm just gonna wait for PS4.

As i'm suspecting Sony and Microsoft to target $400 (as i doubt Sony wants a repeat of the 2007.) Nintendo has to atleast have a $80-$100 difference between then to be relevant to consumers.

Then again even if they launch at say $400 by the time Sony and Microsoft launch they could be at $300.

This comment sound strangely similar to what Sony said before the PS3 price was announced so i really hope they don't price themselves out of competition.

Don't get over confident Nintendo use Sony in 2006 - 2007 as examples of what not to do.

I think we need to wait for the specs to start guessing what the price point will be. I will tell you, the game videos shown at E3, (I know they were early), did nothing to impress me at least. Nothing we have not already seen on the 360 and PS3 - but I will give them time.

I know it will be pricy for a Nintendo system - the controller alone probably would make up a 200 price tag - so if the system power itself is between a 360 and PS3 - I would assume at least a 399 price point.
