Anonymous Members Arrested in Spain Over PSN Attack, Government Hacks

There is one crucial rule for self preservation if you are a member of Anonymous: stay anonymous. In Spain, three hackers have failed to do just that, and have been arrested for their attacks on the PSN, banks and several government websites.

They hack governments and take millions of credit card information. They steal more money than any burglar could. They destroy families financial section and brake up families.

The punishment? 2-3 years?

Atleast a 10 year sentence for being part of an organisation that focuses on hurting other humans more so than any of us could understand.

sikbeta4696d ago

@Pandemic

They'll GLADLY do it XD

O-T

Cyber-police FTW! :P

rjdofu4696d ago (Edited 4696d ago )

Wow only 2-3 years? Stealing millions of credit card information, provoking & attacking government and only 2-3 year sentence?

I mean come on, a kid are gonna be sentenced up to 8 years in prison just because he brought a blow up doll to school.

Imtey4696d ago

These hackers better have there backdoors firewalled... if you know what I mean.

Shadow Flare4696d ago

@ imtey

Yeah, or they might get a virus

Imtey4696d ago

And I don't think It'll be these hackers that will be doing the jail breaking in prison... if you know what I mean

ZombieNinjaPanda4696d ago

Why does everyone here want people to get raped? You guys are messed up in the heads.

Imtey4696d ago

Chill dude, it's just a joke. Rape in any context is a horrible thing, even in prison. Sometimes its just hard to feel sympathy for them.

Sexual assaults in prison is primarily an American thing. It very rarely happens in other countries' prisons. So unfortunately, these guys will more than likely not be raped in a Spanish prison.

Wow. If this issue like the psn attack piss you off that much, then do something about it instead of hiding behind the law and waiting for them to do something. Anon is right though. They are the modern day Robin Hoods and they are martyrs for a cause. I really dont think they care about interrupting your "gamer life" for them showing the world that the little guy shouldnt be taken advantage of by a big Corporation. Many of you would follow sony right off a bridge. Sad...

Shadow Flare4696d ago (Edited 4696d ago )

Skygamer, hackers are incredibly selfish people. All they want is the right to hack anything and everything, no matter the consequences

They forget the fundamental point that it is SONY's software and they have no right at all to hack it. They do not own the software, Sony does. Thats it. End of.

And moreover, they simply do not care that breaking open the system can and most likely would cause devastation to Sony and the gamers. But they do not care. They want to hack it open. No matter the devastion it could lead to. That is why hackers are incredibly selfish people. And they don't understand why Sony has tried to stop this? Maybe they're stupid too? Or just blind. I'm glad 3 of them got arrested. Hope prison knocks some sense into the nerds

b_one4696d ago (Edited 4696d ago )

I supose those are only kids that run LOIC in Auto mode like sheeps for some anon idiots.

And those BS talk about NATO etc gives govs reason for kick our butts (all internet users) with some sick laws.

thesummerofgeorge4696d ago

I hope they make an example out of these guys and throw the book at them. A message needs to be sent to these hackers, they think they can get away with anything and show a complete lack of respect for the law. It's gotten way out of hand.

there arent 10 more hackers with the same skills. Even if there were, doubt theyd take the place of a guy who is going to prison. They arent a headless snake, they are humans.

lol...i think the anon attacks on PSN will be traced fairly easily but the more experienced hackers will be staying away from the limelight.

I bet you the 3 suspects are quite young..16 or under?
maybe thats why no info was released on them

plmkoh4696d ago

Sometimes if the courts think that revealing the identities will perverse the course of justice (such as if there is huge public hate) they will withhold information.

Which is why most of the time trials against war crimes are so controversial because it becomes a show with an already predetermined outcome.

kane_13714696d ago

difference is that they are in EU not US. names are rarely released and kids aren't put in jail.(which i doubt even US does)

Eamon4696d ago

Hmm, I read in NYT that these members of Anonymous arrested were the alleged "leaders" of the DDoS attacks on PSN. As in, the guys behind OpSony and their Low Orbit Ionic Cannon program that makes it easy for the Average Joe to send a DDoS attack at PSN.

However, are these the same people behind the actual "hack" of PSN that caused Sony to shut it down after it understood that millions of users' data were stolen?

I don't know, but it seems the truth is getting closer.

GameSpawn4696d ago

@kane_1371

Actually, in the US juveniles can be put in jail depending on the severity of the crime. For example if a 16 year old commits premeditated murder they would be charged as if they were an adult. They could go straight to an adult prison, but at best they would be placed in a juvenile prison until they were 18 and then transferred.

Well let's hope they don't get hired and get some prison time for all the BS they have caused.

dabri54696d ago

Glad everyone has already assumed guilt on this. They are being charged. They haven't been found guilty. Some of these countries are dumb enough that if you were to claim you were a part of anon, they would arrest you for the same charges. Just because its believed that anon was the cause of those crimes.I'm not saying they are for sure innocent but you can't assume everyone is guilty right off the bat for this. Just seems like you guys are ready for anyone to take the blame and be punished.

BlackTar1874696d ago

Cat they had to be tracked somehow.

Most people assuming there guilty have just cause johhny two sticks doesn't get arrested for cyber crime for doing nothing.

HardCover4696d ago (Edited 4696d ago )

catguykyou, they checked TWO MILLION LINES OF IRC CHAT

I'm sure they found more than admissions of being Anonymous. Anonymous are not some secret society of expert hackers. They are not infallible.

All they have going for them is confidence. And you KNOW that doesn't solve all your problems (such as their problem with the Technological Investigation Brigade)

dabri54696d ago

Yes well, no one expects the Spanish inquisition either....

I'm just saying, we should at least wait and see how the trial goes before saying they should be burned at the stake. If all they went by was something someone said on the internet....well, we are all screwed.

For instance: I hacked PSN. I did. It was for the luls. I also shot JFK on the grassy knoll. I was there when the aliens crashed in Rosswell. I was apart of the seal team that got Osama.

People talk. Sometimes they talk a lot. Brag about things they didn't do as if they did. If that's the case here, I'd hate to cast such harsh judgment on some kids before it's been proven for a fact that they DID do it. That is what the trial is for anyways.

HardCover4696d ago

yeah I understand.

But do you really think these people are that incompetent? They know the laws, they know what they need for a conviction. If they didn't have evidence, they wouldn't have a case, and nobody would have been arrested (in which a judge probably had to sign off on a warrant based on the evidence).

Besides, they don't want to get media attention just to reveal that they have some innocent kids in custody. That's real bad publicity when making a claim as big as they have. I give them the benefit of the doubt here, easily.

dabri54694d ago

They aren't in custody though. They were released without bail pending further charges. The main reason they were brought in btw, was for charges about hacking the Spain government. They suspect they were also responsible for Sony and a few other hacks, but not charged with it yet.

Sexual assault in prison is primarily an American thing. It very rarely happens in other countries' prisons. So unfortunately, these guys will more than likely not be raped in a Spanish prison.

BigPenguin4696d ago

They why would anyone be afraid of prison? I could defraud medicare for 30 million over one month, go to prison for 7-10 years(with possibility of parole after 4), and come out and still have all the money. (seriously, that is not hyperbole, I honestly know how to defraud medicare for that much, and that my maximum sentence would be 10 years)

The ONLY reason I am not doing it is because I am afraid of the rape.

Lykon4696d ago

I mostly support the stuff that anonymous does, i like their anti-establishment stance, but I 100% disagreed with their defence of geohotz by attacking psn. It's a shame they were getting a good name for themselves as activists (defending wikileaks for eg) and now some of their hairless slim young vulnerable members are going to end up being passed around like currency in prisons.

saladthieves4696d ago

A battle has been won but the war is far from over.

I'm not a supporter of Anonymous...but I'm also not a hater. They've done some things in the past that I agreed with, namely the Westboro "baptist church" ordeal.

This Sony thing, I'm not with. Either way one thing that is universal is respect. Regardless of what we think of them we have to respect their ability to do what they do. If you arrest two members-two who are obviously high profile, what do you think the consequences of that will be? If Geohot was a spur to start the battle with Sony, what do you suppose will happen now?

I'm not saying that Sony should bow down and be cowarded I'm just saying I love my PS3 but I hope Sony has a damn good plan.

metsgaming4696d ago (Edited 4696d ago )

Warprincess1164696d ago (Edited 4696d ago )

2-3 years. Really? The government seriously needs to raise the years these people serve after hacking. Cyber Hacking is getting worse and worse every year so you have to seriously punish these people if they get caught. They should serve 5 - 10 years in a maximum security prison. I bet you they won't hack after that.

UltimateIdiot9114696d ago

Chances are they will be watched/not allowed to touch another computer device again.

femshep4696d ago

yeah what these guys and the people that are attacking nintendo and the sony movie site are on the fine line between serious hacking and terrorism

honestly cyber terrorism should just be considered terrorism and treated the same as well

metsgaming4696d ago

well the us government is considering that if hit with a malicious hack it could retaliate with physical force.

gamingdroid4696d ago

So you want computer crimes raised to the level of say rape and sexual assault?

An easy solution is to actually make the hackers liable for the damages. That puts them on the hook for a long time. Putting them in jail only cost more taxpayers money.

I can think of gazillion other crimes that I would rather put people in jail for than "hacking" in the crowded and underfunded jail system.

LOOK_AT_THIS_I4696d ago (Edited 4696d ago )

In a perfect world rape/sexual assault/murderers would be put down with a bullet if you want to save money but too many bleeding heart individuals who live nowhere near crime areas or have never experienced crimes/violence are the ones who are so against it.

I would treat the guys who use a computer to steal my money the same as a guy who holds a gun or a knife to someone in order to take their money. Computers control everything and in the future it will only be more tech related. Cyber crimes can be just as damaging to an individual than a physical crime in the long run.

There has to be consequences to their actions or else there is no need for them to stop. Those fuckers could steal hundreds/thousands of peoples savings and in your opinion only get a year or two in jail because you think it is not a serious enough crime. They would never have to work again if they were slick enough to hide the funds.

gamingdroid4696d ago (Edited 4696d ago )

In general, cyber crimes of this nature doesn't actually affect the consumer's long term financials.

If your credit card information is stolen, the credit card issuer is on the hook for the loss, not you!

Now, if the thieves got your birth date (like in Sony's PSN case) then there is the issue of identity theft which can impact your for a long term (even without knowledge).

However, I wouldn't put it in the same league as violent crimes.

Harsher sentences don't deter computer breaches. High security does deter combined with the ability to track said attacks and apprehend them! The thieves will just move onto another target that is easier.

The high potential payout, combined with the very low risk of being caught means a very profitable business, especially if it's hard to get you in a different country and even punish you. Hackers in China are continuously breaching and stealing proprietary R&D information. Nobody is doing jack squat about that!

A much better approach is ironically to fine companies for loosing your information or force them to publicly disclose it. If there is more money on the line directly hurting the company they will change their tune pretty fast.

That said, these crimes are minor compared to the corruption we have in the US government and even less important compared to violent crimes.

kneon4696d ago

"If your credit card information is stolen, the credit card issuer is on the hook for the loss, not you! "

yes that's true, but ultimately it's the consumer that pays, the credit card companies cover the fraud loses with all the money they get from consumers. If fraud increases they will use that to try to justify jacking up their already usurious interest rates.

And the ones that will pay are the ones that can least afford to. I never carry a balance on my cards and have 0 debt so it doesn't affect me.

sukas4696d ago

i hope they never get out of jail, and i wish they get marry to boyfriends in jail.

majiebeast4696d ago

2-3 years is way too low try 10 or 20.

Lucreto4696d ago

Well consider how long a year is. 3 years is over a thousand days.

Imagine being in a cell 22 hours of that day with nothing to do.

It would be hell.

Shadow Flare4696d ago (Edited 4696d ago )

I imagine those nerds spend their entire day on computers. So a week in jail without a computer must be absolute hell for them

2-3 years? Ahahahahahaaaa

I genuinely hope the experience will open their eyes to see there are more important things in life

lodossrage4696d ago

I agree with you guys that the sentence should be longer. But don't think that 2-3 years won't humble them. Even that short time can have quite the effect.

Remember, these are probably very weak people physically if you know what I mean. So them being abused in jail even for just one year, let alone two or three can do wonders.

Either way, now they see they aren't invincible and won't do it again when they get out...assuming they even survive.

ClimateKaren4696d ago

Not only weak physically, but severely emotionally underdeveloped. A year in the clink for them will be a learning experience like no other, and, as you said, very very humbling. It does sound a little short for people whose actions basically amount to international terrorism, albeit of a non-violent sort, but hopefully it'll do it's job and rehabilitate these people, and teach them that the world doesn't end and begin at their keyboards.

It's they're money, if they wanna give it to Anon then it's on them.

"The highly political group, named after the computer used to create its music, has been on the receiving end of more than a little criticism for "selling out" over its inclusion in the ad, particularly given Empire's history with Sony."

Oh, now I see why they did it.
