PlayStation VITA Games Pricing Revealed

Dual Pixels - PlayStation VITA is just at a fabulous price, for me, you, and everyone else who wants all the power in the palm of their hands. Although PS VITA's hardware price was officially revealed the other day, the individual prices of titles for VITA haven't. According to Gamestop, they will be very cheap.

Hey, let's not forget that this would not be the first time Sony surprised us with price. Modern Sony is not 2006 Sony.

A $40 Vita game on a $250 Vita (same exact prices as 3DS) would force people to ask: do I want 3D which gives me a headache, or do I want Vita?

Journalists also neglect to mention that the 3DS is being outsold in Japan right now by the PSP on a month-to-month basis.

Price equality was not part of the equation in the PSP vs DS war. DS had the price advantage in games and in system. Now the field is even. Hmmm.

I don't know if I consider this pretty cheap, that's just what I expected.

Console games cost 60, I don't see why handheld games would cost more than 2/3 that price. We are talking of usually shorter games, with less overall quality (tech wise) than console full games.

But I could had been too optimistic since this is coming out just before a generation change, which could as well change the price on console games.

Sure there are handheld games that give this console-handheld barrier the finger and are just as good if not better and, in an ideal world, all games would be priced by their quality, so we could indeed have some games costing more than 40 but definetely would also exist many games costing less.

Anyway, this is not a perfect world and if they have to state an average MSRP, 40 bucks is exactly what I expected.

A key point some people are missing here: Gamestop is taking pre-orders at this price. That means they can't charge you more for it. They have a policy that will allow you to pay the lower price if the price drops before release, but they can't raise the price on you.

That being said, there's no way they would put these prices and start taking pre-orders at that price if they didn't know it wasn't going to be $40.

I wish they showed more of Vita's other features during the Uncharted demo. We all know the basic touch screen functions, but I wanted to see how the touch pad on the back would work, or if the cameras would be integrated.

I bet they're just place holders for now. If the games were $40 it would be AMAZING. However they're already losing money on the hardware, so Sony is going to have to make money only off of the games. Thus I don't think they'll sell them cheap.

The thing is the development costs are equal to those of the original psp games, so in theory the games shouldn't cost much more.

To say the vita wont reach 100mill milestone but the 3DS will ish silly considering things are a bit different now. The playing field is even now.

To act as though the vita is the only handheld with multiplats is also silly considering the 3DS is also plaque with them.

Anyway back to the topic, 39.99 is a great price structure for these games. At this price many will take the bait.

The Vita's games are like a semi Ps3 experience but lets not forget its a handheld and if Sony is really trying to win in that department, a mix of prices from $29.99-39.99 is what they'll need to succeed! As much as I love Nintendo, they really dropped the ball with the 3DS pricing both the games and the system. The system itself costs only over $100 to make and it's overpriced. Not good at all.

Sony isn't as stupid like Nintendo with the pricing strategy this upcoming generation, so I am expecting it will be around 350-400 price range, or even 300 if Sony wants to surprise us all again with their new pricing strategy. The PS4 would sell like hotcakes no problem.

So I got banned on GAF for asking this. Maybe I need to be more diplomatic. I guess I'm wondering why everyone is so excited by $40 games for handhelds? I mean, I get that iOS/Android games are not of the same graphical quality, etc, BUT if I want to play a console game, I PLAY IT ON MY HOME CONSOLE. And I play mobile games, at a fraction of the cost, on my iOS devices.

Not saying that's the only opinion... Don't want to be banned for expressing my opinion... But I'm wondering why people are excited for a dedicated mobile gaming device with $40 games. That seems so... 2001.

Imagine if I said: so what's the big deal with Mass Effect? If I wanted to play a shooter I'd play Uncharted and if I wanted to play an RPG I'd play Skyrim. So, Mass Effect is totally pointless.

The difference here is that iPhone games are slightly-better flash games. Some are bigger, but for the most part you get what you pay for.

And I understand the Angry Birds/Doodle Jump view. But what about Sworcery, Inifinity Blade and some of the "higher end" experiences? I guess in this economy and with my dollars needed in other places, I lean more toward these experiences, which actually provide value, rather than the dedicated handheld. To each his own, I suppose. It will be interesting to see how Vita does in what is now a very competitive mobile market. The 3DS isn't fairing too well, I believe.

Nintendo really needs to reconsider their pricing agenda on both the games and the system itself, or the 3DS will be crushed to bits by PSV. The PSV is rendering the 3DS an utter joke and is a big bang for your buck.

Looks like Nintendo will have to be a little more careful with the pricing of the WiiUThaa (pronounced "We You They"). They seriously better not drop the ball on this one.

3ds will get a price drop but i don't think people understand that the 3ds is actually outselling the ds at this point of its life cycle and it's $100 more than the ds was. the psp didn't start selling until the price came down and i don't expect the vita to be any different. $350 is still alot to drop on a handheld no matter how sick it is.

If games are more than $40 it will struggle because most people aren't willing to pay much for portable games. Just look at the top selling games on the Apple App store or Android Market.

Sony announced recently that it will take 3 years for Vita to be profitable. Meaning they are selling it at a loss just like the ps3 did originally. Also, where can I find a quad core cpu+gpu in a mobile device smaller than a tablet? Dont think I can. The hardware is definitely next gen for a portable gaming device.

Back to topic:

What i find curious is that there are many people in N4G who believe that it is impossible for Vita games to be the same price as 3DS ones. And when i ask them why they believe or know that they tell me " Because its Sony".

I believe that if Sony wants to compete with the 3DS not only do they have to price the handheld well (which they did) but they also have to price the games at a good price. Which is why i believe that Vita games will cost the same as 3DS ones. People call me crazy because its the same price as PSP ones. But Sony did say themselves that making games for the Vita is easier than the PSP.

Now i have seen a lot of fanboys complaining that the Vita isnt capable of playing Iphone like games. WHen in fact it has services that provide those titles. Services such as PSN and Playstation suite will allow Iphone like games to exist on the Vita.

Wifi-version only of Vita appears to be the way to go...I have no idea how the 3G pricing plans would come into play with all of that data being used. Doesn't sound cheap though.
