Sega: Shenmue 3 requests 'taken very seriously'

"Trust me: We hear loud and clear about Shenmue, and we're not going to close our ears to it. Sonic and SEGA All Star Racing works into that too, specifically because we know people are fans we introduced the forklift truck as a downloadable vehicle and then created a trailer specifically for that one character. We do listen and I think that was the right time to give a nod and a wink to those guys."

exactly....i want it yesterday. at least a teaser of a teaser at e3

Yi-Long4702d ago (Edited 4702d ago )

... as a (timed?) exclusive on Nintendo's new console.

Great little game, and especially the epic soundtrack, which I hope they'll bring back.

EVILDEAD3604702d ago

Give me an HD bundle of Shenmue 1 and 2 at E3 and I will cry for joy..

Yakuza series has proven that there isnt a reaon for Sega to lose the massive amount of millions they lost in the ol' Dreamcast days.

Open world games have come a looooong way...but we all have to thank Shenmue for what it did way back then

Is'nt Sega the developer for Yakuza?

If so then why would they make another Shenmue when Yakuza is almost like Shenmue.

Dont get me wrong I would love to see what Shenmue 3 would bring this gen but in all honesty for Shenmue 3 to stand out they would need to spend the type of money that R* spent on the GTA 4 engine and marketing.

Edit: I know some of you are thinking why cant they just use the Yakuza engine - they could but the Yakuza engine is ok but no where near the GTA 4 engine power.

Edit @ Below: Trust me I agree 100% with you. I still hate Valve for making me wait this long to play HL EP3.

If it was announced and after all the dust of excitement settled, i would be very interested to see what way they would handle going forward with the third (and presumably final) chapter to the series. I personally dont think it should be announced until Shenmue and Shenmue II make some sort of contemporary appearace on a current generation hardware (via DLC or DC Collection 2). Bundling 2 movies with a Shenmue 3 has many problems, the biggest would be the leap in graphics i would say. Although in saying that Yakuza 3 did it fine i thought, with 2 digest movies narrated by Kazuma so this could work, especially with some epic orchestration building up in the background of each (which we know the franchise already has in the bank.)

The other route is to basically redo the entire Shenmue story from scratch with an up to date engine and motion control etc. I wouldnt mind this at all, and i personally think this would sell greater than the two original Shenmue games we have seen in the past. Talking about it though can put me on a downer so i will stop myself now, because at the moment we are so close to something Shenmue related and i really dont want to jinx it

tablav4702d ago

Shenmue is a trilogy that was unfinished. People don't want Yakuza, they want the great story of Shenmue to finally be resolved. It can look and play exactly like Yakuza for all I care, but you can't just leave a story unfinished.

squallheart4701d ago

I still remember when the original was supposed to be 6 games long but got cut to a trilogy. One day i wish it would come true i still love listening to the soundtrack

chidori6664702d ago (Edited 4702d ago )

I'd love to see the end of the story, but I don't think it'll ever be ground-breaking again.

Grown Folks Talk4702d ago

I refuse to let go. I'll hold on like Liam Neeson held on to Christian Bale's hand on that snowy cliff in Batman Begins.

Wait a minute... bad analogy.

Disregard my previous statement.

WetN00dle694702d ago

I too refuse to let it go! The game is amazing and it deserves closure! I WANNA KICK LAN DI's @$$!!!

NoobJobz4701d ago

It probably wont be groundbreaking now but who cares? Shenmue is my favorite game of all time and it was amazing when it came out. I dont care if the 3rd is as amazing, just as long as I can finish the damn story.

itani4702d ago (Edited 4702d ago )

12 years and you call that taken very seriously lol.

50Terabytespersec4701d ago (Edited 4701d ago )

Yes make it happen BUT don't make it a a boring waste of my TIME!!!
Firt off I was the biggest Fan of SEGA and of Shenmue.I had both versions English and Japanese..
The game had its amazing technology and Atmosphere but it lacked action, and lets be real was, watered down and very G rated and BORING at times.
WHAT they need to do is add some sort of elements from Yakuza and give the game some stealth and weapons and hacking and REAL fighting and killing (were talking about mobs and such here!.
The engine however should be based on the New ID Rage engine to be fully realized!!!
Give us Shenmue but give us a adult Action movie like no other (heavy rain ,Yakuza,GTA,all mix into the game)
Not happy joy whinning love story ,
SEGA!!!! RIP!

Sega:Shenmue 3 requests 'taken very seriously'...then falls on deaf ears. *fixed*

As much as I want to believe this, gamers been clamouring for the third iterations for years! E3 is next week. Make it happen!

galgor4702d ago

To make Shenmue 3 takes AGES, to make Shenmue 3 takes SEGA!

i see what u did there. Good one

Never say never, I really didn't expect to ever see Space Marine 2 and 12 years later its almost here.
So there is still hope for all these games.

Chocoburger64d ago

I've completed 5 of the games on the list, but the author forgot to include Advent Rising. It was supposed to be a trilogy, but it bombed hard, and the two sequels never got made. It was Mass Effect, a console generation before Mass Effect.

The game is buggy and unpolished, it needed a few more months of development, but the potential was there. At the end of the game, you have all these super abilities, I remember the stomp attack that created a shockwave being especially powerful.

shinoff218364d ago

I personally think days gone will recieve some sort of sequel at some point. I'm personally also hoping it's not the rumored multiplayer online stuff. I'd think most that enjoyed it would rather thisnto.

Knightofelemia64d ago

Sony needs to dust off Sly Cooper and Days Gone so needs a sequel two of my favorite Sony titles. Bulletstorm I love great game wish it also got a sequel. And I wish Namco would finally give Enslaved a sequel another great game.

Dragon's Dogma and XCOM 2 are the best deals. The rest of the games are still overpriced. I would say 8.99 is good for AC: Origins, but you need to put $10 more into MTs to avoid the grind that slows down the story. So, the game is actually 18.99.

It's not on this list, but Pathfinder: Kingmaker is only $9.99. This is a deal if you have a current gen. consoles, as it runs poorly on prev. gen.

hangdang677d ago

I beat AC origins without grinding or spending any money on MTX?

anast676d ago

I had to grind for side missions. So, did many other people.

Has anyone been able to login in to the ps store on ps5 I haven't been able to in days and my network is good.

RedDevils676d ago

Reset or shutdown your PS5. I always can go login to PS5, in fact just a moment ago.

HeliosHex676d ago

Hey thanks again. Although the shutdown/reset didn't work i found that resetting the mdm and hub did the trick. I use a Lan network instead of wifi. In case anyone has a similar setup and problem.

RedDevils675d ago

I forgot to mention about the router reset, that usually do the trick when it come to network problems happen with iphone/android. btw np
